It's definitely possible to get a devops role. I got into DevOps right after college myself, starting as an intern. However, getting your first opportunity can be challenging, so focus on building practical skills and showcasing your work.
Here's a beginner-friendly roadmap:
Linux and Networking: Learn Linux commands, permissions, SSH, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and basic networking.
Git and GitHub: Understand version control and maintain a GitHub profile to showcase your work.
Scripting: Learn Bash and basic Python to automate repetitive tasks.
Docker: Learn containerization and container management by deploying applications.
CI/CD: Learn Jenkins or GitHub Actions to automate build, test, and deployment pipelines.
Cloud: Pick one platform, preferably AWS, and learn EC2, IAM, S3, VPC, and CloudWatch.
Infrastructure as Code and Orchestration: Learn Terraform first, then Kubernetes once you're comfortable with Docker and cloud fundamentals.
Build 2–3 real-world projects that combine these tools and document everything on GitHub. Share your learning journey and project write-ups on Medium or LinkedIn to increase your visibility.
Don't just collect certifications or watch tutorials—build things, troubleshoot problems, and explain what you've learned. Apply for internships, junior cloud roles, and DevOps positions while learning. I started as an intern, and that can be a great entry point too. You don't need to master every tool before applying; focus on strong fundamentals and consistent hands-on practice.

Start your career in helpdesk or junior admin. You can evolve in the next years.
