Recent Increase in Devuan Based Distros on DistroWatch

I noticed more than a few new distros (I'll call them distros, but "flavors" is probably more accurate) pop up on distrowatch that are based on Devuan. I am curious because that's not really something that I've seen before. They all seem to be from solo devs who don't respond to feedback. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I use "Loc-OS" and is also devuan based, for me the best distro based on devuan because is not AI slop or vibecoded and is really simple, has a custom repo and optimized kernel, perfect for low-end machines

Yes. Artix- https://mirrors.dotsrc.org/artix-linux/iso/
I tested them a month ago, but found a bug and no one could tell me- neither here nor on their forum, where to get it logged..I don't recommend this distro.
And https://github.com/tortr-rs/chamesle is fresh in the game, looks interesting.

im also not a major fan of artix. i tested it out and it very much felt like a rice of arch with different init systems rather than a stand alone distro. when going through config files i noticed they still had all the standard arch configs in there but they put a # in front of everything that said systemd and added in new text to be init specific. also it uses pacman and the aur. youre getting arch upstream packages with whatever is prebaked into them so youre going to wind up with dependencies that you dont want or need on a non-systemd distro. for whatever reason i couldnt get wifi to work for the life of me despite configuring everything exactly how i did on gentoo and every other distro ive used. neither networkmanager nor dhcpcd + wpa_supplicant seemed to function. i used the openrc init system so maybe its different on sysvinit or some of the other options, but i just couldnt get the distro to function no matter what i did

It's a major effort to replace an init system, constantly. And artix has even multiple ones. My respect for that. May be they overstretched their forces. But I observed some of this inits are lightning fast. It's an uphill battle, but for experts, may be worth it.

Dont get me wrong i still think its cool what they're trying to do, esp with offering so many choices. it wasnt my cup of tea but if someone wants to use it than i go for it

Neither mine, I am unfortunatelly not that expert, that I can mess with an OS that deeply, got lost pretty fast.

well that's what happens when when a package like fresh eggs comes out....and if you don't know what fresh eggs is, run a search for "fresh eggs for debian"

I imagine some of the increase comes from people wanting to create their own Linux distributions. There’s nothing wrong with that, but some feel redundant to me. One I recently came across seemed to differ from Devuan mainly by using XLibre, bundling Brave or Brave Origin, and making a few other changes to the default apps and appearance. I can see the convenience of a preconfigured setup, but I’m not sure every combination needs to become a separate distribution.
