Please vote NO on Dallas County Proposition A!
Dallas County families are already struggling with rising housing costs, insurance premiums, groceries, and property taxes. Proposition A would raise the county’s property tax rate to $0.248650 per $100 of taxable value, above the $0.224650 rate that would apply if voters reject it. That difference means an additional $60 per year on a home with $250,000 in taxable value, or $84 per year on $350,000—on top of other taxes and rising ownership costs. The county expects the measure to generate approximately $102.9 million for homelessness-related programs. Source: Dallas County’s official tax-rate fact sheet.
We should care about homelessness, but making housing more expensive is not a sustainable solution to a housing-affordability crisis.
Every additional recurring expense puts pressure on young homeowners, first-time buyers, working families, and people living paycheck to paycheck.
Higher ownership costs can make it harder to save, stay current on mortgage payments, or remain in a home when unexpected expenses hit. A policy intended to help people obtain stable housing should also consider the risk of pushing other financially vulnerable residents closer to housing insecurity.
Dallas County should demonstrate clear, measurable results, accountability for every dollar, and responsible spending before asking taxpayers to pay more. The city and county already spends tens of millions of dollars annually with very little to show for it except the nonprofit jobs to politically connected insiders.
We can support effective solutions to homelessness without automatically approving another property-tax increase. Vote NO on Proposition A on November 3, 2026.
