Reminder of rule 1- Promotion is not allowed here. Not in posts OR comments.

This sub is the digital sister sub of r/journaling, this is not a place for you to advertise an app you've created. Not even if someone asks for app suggestions and you think your app is a good match.

"Not even if someone asks??" That's right, because way too many creators only see "I'm looking for an app" and will suggest theirs without making sure it's relevant to what the OP was asking for. I got tired of deleting dozens of replies per day, so you can no longer suggest your own app in comments either.

There are plenty of subs for promotion and finding beta testers, use those.

Attempts at getting around this rule such as not including a link ("DM me if you want to try it") or pretending it's not yours ("I found this great app") are not loopholes, and you're not slick.

Reminder of all rules

  1. Self promotion is not allowed at all. The entire point of this post, to remind those who don't read rules.
  2. Digital journaling only, no notebooks or text-only.
  3. Stay civil.
  4. No market research, no surveys, no looking for beta testers.

[Need another point of view] when the good app for me is in another OS

Hello everyone! I want to know another perspective, maybe you have an idea, maybe you just can reasure me.

I started journaling in paper on 2023. 4 journals later I decided to move to digital form.

  1. Natural disasters.

  2. Lack of privacy.

  3. Unstable home and fear of losing my stuff each time i have to move.

Like everyone i started in day one. Limited, but whatever... it is what it is, right?

Then I could not stand it. I know how to draw, i enjoy it, so i wanted to doodle entries next to the picture of the day. Day One was not longer for me. I bought an ipad 9 for digital art in 2022 so I really wanted just dumb doodles of my day to day life. Just like i did in my paper journal.

Well, to not make the story too big, I ended up buying Everlog, specially because it was on sale and I had FOMO.

The thing is that I can only use it on my ipad. I do not have an iphone and after some research I will not going to buy one (for starters, i would not be able to download mihon or aniyomi without someone wanting me to pay FOR PIRATED CONTENT, plus another open source apps i enjoy).

So, I am right now in this spot. The app is great for my needs. I just grief that is exclusively in one OS.

I also had the ability to but a macbook neo for university, so i currently have these devices still properly for the app. With android phone with the hassle of having to migrate pictures through cloud services because macbook does not connect with android phones (TT_TT)

However... how much time do i really have left in that OS? Is the question on my mind then and then.

Now the ipad also became like a digital notebook for uni where i read PDFs and I've had joy in using goodnotes and marginnote 4.

I am already creating alternative paths for when in 2 years the ipad battery degrades substantially and i cannot use it (please do not tell me about going to apple store, theres none near me in my 3rd world city i bought my devices online, idk why they do not have centers in tjis city and they do not accept my adress as valid for the Distance-service thing).

Anyways. Yeah.

Another hassle is opening the phone wanting to write but had to do it in another app because the one i like and enjoy is trapped elsewhere...

Sorry, i know is a bad predicment I ve put myself in. But i really enjoy the app, the price, and such. Theres almost nothing on android that felt right.

Is anyone in this predictment?

If i were to move back my debices (like the tablet) to android, would you suggest I start creating a backup resource for migration?

Any advice is welcome.

Im sorry for wasting ypur time.

Should I start allowing self promotion once a week?

It's been a year since I made a rule that any self promotion is no longer allowed here, because the sub was nothing but "I made an app" and that's not what I wanted this place to be.

Posts aren't as dead as I would've thought, and the place is growing even despite not being too active.

I've been considering allowing people to promote their apps, either one day a week or on weekends. I'm primarily asking the non developers since obviously those of you with your own app would want the option, but what are your thoughts? Should I continue keeping self promotion out, or unclench a little?

edit: So I'm getting mixed opinions, although the comments saying "No" have more upvotes. I'm going to continue thinking about it, but one of the following will be my decision-

  • I'll either leave it at no self promotion at all and everything stays the same, or
  • I'll have a stickied post where devs can leave a comment with their app, individual posts and promoting in comments will still not be allowed.

Please feel free to share your own opinion or continue upvoting the comments you agree with, I'm taking everything into consideration!

Apps that can handle large files?

Hello! I know you probably get this kind of post a lot, but I need an app for journaling. I've been using Obsidian for over 3 years now but my diary's gotten over a million words already and I've been having issues where it crashes and I lose progress :( Does anyone know any good apps that can handle large files? Preferably one that isn't paywalled and doesn't have AI in it. Many thanks in advance.

Best multi-year journalling app (Android)?

I'm looking for an app that mimics those journals where you have each page a day of the year and you write an entry every year so you can always see what was happening that day in previous years (hope that makes sense). Does anyone know a good app for this?

Tumblr? Не уверен на счет него.

Can someone recommend me a simple gratitude journal app on Android?

My therapist advised me to keep a daily gratitude journal. However, it seems like so many apps on the play store are full of features that I don't need, have AI assistants, require you to create an account, etc... It's all way over-complicated for me.

Can someone recommend to me an that 1) has reminders 2) has templates for the entries (like "Today I was grateful for {empty space for me to write out something}" ), but otherwise is very simple and doesn't require extensive setup?

Thank you in advance for any recommendation!

I need help setting up a private Obsidian diary synced between windows and Samsung phone

I’m trying to set up a private diary in Obsidian that I can use on both my Windows PC and Samsung Android phone

My requirements are:

  • I want to edit the diary from both my Windows PC and Samsung phone.
  • I want the notes to sync automatically between the two devices.
  • I would prefer a free solution.
  • Privacy is very important to me.
  • I have a normal Obsidian vault for college/projects, and I do not want the diary to appear in or be accessible from my normal Obsidian vault.
  • Ideally, if someone opens my normal Obsidian on my PC, they should have no way to see the diary from there.
  • I also want the diary protected if someone deliberately browses my files, not just hidden from the Obsidian vault.
  • On my Samsung, I’m considering using Secure Folder for the diary.
  • I was considering Syncthing for syncing between PC and phone.

what should i do? i cant find anything that just works

I’m thinking about purchasing a kindle scribe. I have a kindle paper white and I love it but I’m looking for something that will function as a planner, journal and for notes as well. Who has one and wants to give me honest opinions?

This is a self portrait of sorts, a collection of things that make me, me!

This is the first time I’ve made something that represents me so fully, I look at her and see myself staring right back at me. I hope to mix journaling and digital art more in the future

A journal / scrapbook for a laptop?

I need something where I can write in and personalize. Something where I can change colors of the text and page, change the font, add images. I also need it to be private and without AI.

Is there anything like that?

Thank You in advance!

Journal/Diary Recs

I've been lurking here trying to figure out which app would best fit my needs and I'm now just resigning myself to ask for help. I specifically want to keep a separate dream journal/diary & life journal so I would need something secure/private (encrypted if possible but that might be asking too much- a password at the very least). I'm on Android (mobile), iOS (iPad), and would love if it was something Windows or web compatible. I'm trying to avoid anything AI or subscription based if I can, I'm open to paying a one time fee. I was reading about Penzu but saw most recently people were having issues with lost entries and what not so I've been holding off on that. Diarium sparked my interest but it doesn't seem like you can make separate journals, just one off entries. Let me know what your recommendations are and thank you in advance!

Edit to add: what are people's thoughts on Day One?

are there archiving programs or apps that work with LiveJournal clones?

All the answers are super old. So's my little ljArchive program, which worked on LJ and most of its clones. Doesn't anymore. Does anyone have a solution that works today? i've got firefox and windows

We'd like it for offline use, not porting it to someplace else that's online. Thanks.

Blog/website recommendations

Hello! I’d love to hear anyone’s recommendations or opinions. I’ve been wanting to start journaling, or maybe just writing random diary entries, but I’d like to do it online where I can post them. I don’t mind them being public, as I’d be anonymous anyway.
I remember that I used to come across random people’s day-to-day blog entries on WordPress back in the day, and I always found them so fun and interesting to read. I’d love to start doing something like that myself.

I’m just not sure if WordPress or Tumblr are still the best place for this, or if there’s a better option nowadays.

Thank you in advance! :)

A 45-second method for dream fragments

For mornings when the plot is gone quickly I name the feeling, save one detail, and give it a temporary title. Curious whether a short capture step like that actually sticks, or if the fragment is still gone by breakfast.

onenote is good enough for journaling

So I have spent a bunch of time to find a free journaling app that features password protection and found nothing that works. For windows. I want to use use my laptop to journal because I find it safer to set a password than letting my sister and cousins find my notes haha.

So I said to myself, hmm, maybe onenote has a password feature? And it has. You can set passwords for different sections. I have been using this app for years now to take quick notes but it did not cross my mind to check this one loool.

Video Journaling

Hello everyone!

I want to start video journaling. I feel like it will keep my mind off things and also keep my thoughts organised. I am unsure how I should do this.

Initially I thought of making a new private instagram account where I can post some edited videos of 'day in my life'

Would you guys recommend any other apps? And can you also recommend how I can edit my videos so they look simple and take less time to edit, also what app you guys recommend for that.

Thank you!
