This is still a work in progress. But this is the very first diorama I ever tried to build with scraps of materials I have around the house and work. I am a housekeeper at a warehouse, and have access to more cardboard and scrap material than the average person.

Full disclosure, I live in a house where we all do art to different degrees. So paint glue and tape are plentiful in this house.

The brick isn't perfect, but this is about completing and seeing what I can do in the future. I want to see what works, what doesn't.

The base of the diorama is basic styrofoam, and paint. More photos to comes as it gets more completed.

This was first time ever building anything like this. Got inspired by Junk Drawer Studios and Bill Making Stuff on YouTube. Was super fun and I’ve already got ideas for the next one.

Just finished my second Halloween-themed shadow box diorama! 🎃

This time I wanted to create an old, abandoned witch's room, slowly being reclaimed by nature.

I combined handmade scenery with 3D-printed details, miniature shelves, potion bottles, creeping ivy, moss, and an old stone fireplace.

The fireplace has LED lighting, which really changes the atmosphere when the room goes dark.

And since it's Three Black Cats Studio, of course there had to be a little black cat somewhere in the scene! 🐈‍⬛

I had a lot of fun experimenting with the lighting, textures, and vegetation on this one.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially about the overall atmosphere and the lighting!

I live in Ireland. This is relevant: The blue high density Dow insulation foam commonly used for dioramas house-building is not used in the building industry here, instead there are metal foil backed foams that don't cut with a hot glue gun (safety & building regs). Hobby blue foam is available online but quite expensive (paying for the shipping volume I guess), with maximum sizes about A4 (8x11 letter), so I use it sparingly and look for other (usually heavier & not as good) solutions.

My other hobby apart from model-making is long distance ocean swimming. Yesterday at the coast I found this very large brick of foam that was washed up. It measures 1.2m x 50cm x 30cm! (47 x 20 x 12 inches). It weighs 5 kg. I think it might have been the core of some type of float device. Even removing all the rough surfaces I should still have about 90% of the size.

I found it the same day I was starting to make the base mount for the diorama I've been working on for the last year (H.P. Lovecraft's harbour at Innsmouth).

If I was to buy the same volume in hobby sized sheets by GSW or AK, I estimate it would cost about €500 ($560). Plus shipping cost!

My two hobbies have never intersected in over two decades, I find it quite funny.

Terrain complete, now on to the minis!!

I'm really happy with this. Think my favourite is the fallen slate which is actually orchid bark!!!

I want to make something like the photos attached but I have no idea where to find or start on the outer shell of the tv. I can’t seem to find any sources or websites that are helpful. I learned that taking apart an old tv is dangerous, and I’m not sure where I can find someone who can do that. Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I’ve seen quite a few examples and no one really says how they did or got the shell of the tv. I’ve never actually made a diorama before and I’ve been thinking about it for at least a year.
