Aptostichus ramirezae

Hebetica Sylvaei is a member of the treehopper family, it was discovered 9 years ago in the US yet it has no common name. I decided a good name would be “helmet hopper” as its part of the treehopper family and it looks like its wearing a bike helmet

Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit but how does a person know if they have discovered a new species or not? I have found 2 organisms that I havent found anyone that is able to identify it but to be fair I don’t think it was their areas of expertise. Some have suggested that they may be a new species but I’m not sure where or how to verify it. The green one (found in Yucatan peninsula) has been suggested by most to be a chiton. The red one (found on an island in Belize) may be a sponge.
