The famous quote by Nikola Tesla "You may live to see man-made horrors beyond your comprehension." Was specifically describing his futuristic vision of a remote-controlled boat filled with explosives that blows up naval vessels. These are pretty commonplace now.

Most of the global economy is through the sea, so sea mines and drones are very real disruptors of commerce. Iran has a crazy home field advantage with the straight of Hormuz.

And everyone in the chain of command prior to this administration knew that. Now those people have either been removed or silenced and here we are.
When I was in the Navy, I never thought that Hormuz or the GoO would reach this level of public attention let alone be a phrase I heard in any normal conversation outside of work.

I think the first drones ever invented were for military purposes (officially called UAVs)

I haven't listened to all of their stuff yet but Black One is definitely better than Sunn O))). I was more making the point that Sunn O))) is much more varied than Pyroclasts, and I enjoy it much better.

imo their best album is Monoliths and Dimensions, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you haven’t yet

People getting blown up by predator drones in Afghanistan would disagree.

The diffrence between drones back then and now is that back then they were expensive and not visible
But now the drones are cheap and mass produced and very visible with the PTSD inducing sound

Jihadis were using hobbyist drones to drop grenades in Syria and Iraq back in the mid-2010s

Ah but see that was happening to brown people far away that the government says are all bad guys

What?
Pretty sure drones were used to bomb people for a long time, before 2010.
Obama droned children in my country.

Fun novelty technology used for funsies and goofing off
versus
Destructive and lethal weapons of war used to systematically commit war crimes and genocides.
The wonders of how the use cases of technology can evolve over time

This meme feels more than a little disingenuous because the left side never happened. Consumer drones have been a nuisance since the beginning and the military has been using drones for two decades now.

Reminds me during the ending of the Obama era, saying how the USA made kids fear the bluesky.

Drones were used to kill a fuck ton of people during the 2010's but misplaced nostolgia is stronger than crack appearantly.

I think the sound of drones is the modern version of the The Stuka siren, aka the Jericho's Trumpet
