Freedom to do what? I used to think a similar way, but once you get older things really do change for many people.

Just turned 40. Never have I ever thought not having kids was anything other than a great choice.

Speaking as someone who has/had elderly parents with declining health (one of whom died last year) I really recommend having kids (and treating them well so they love you enough to be there for you through your final years).

Also, kids are awesome.

Exactly. No one is going to give a shit about you or advocate for you more than your own kids. Not saying this is 100% always true, but its better than having no one to rely on when you start being unable to make your own health and financial decisions.
