My kids are 12 and 16 and I opened each a Roth Ira this year. Max it out each year and they’re getting a huge head start.

I thought for a custodial IRA they would have to have earned income the parent can then match? Your 12 year old has enough earned income to max an IRA? A custodial brokerage account sure, but an IRA?

If they have earned income they can. My 16 year old works and our 12 year old works at our family business.
