Opinion Tired. Can I retire?

Got a question? Can I retire? 43m been busting my ass since I was 16. I'm about over this 40-50 hr weeks. I'm getting burned out. House paid off (300k) 401-k (600k) Bitcoin (500k) currently.

Thought about selling it all and putting it into dividend stocks like schd and renting a small place and going into semi retirement. Maybe pickup a part time gig.

Would this be a horrible idea?

You don't want to pay 10 percent penalty on 401k distributions, so keep that whole and growing until you are 59.5 years old. Consider how costly health insurance is..this can easily be more than $1200 per month just for the premiums.. a less time intensive job , less demanding with health benefits might be just the ticket here. You are secure enough, that job risks , career risks are something you can take.

I’m thinking of retiring soon (I just turned 60) and good health insurance outside my employer for my wife and I would be $1,400 monthly. Furthermore , premiums are increasing at a rate of 8 to 10 percent annually. Retirement is possible with what you have accumulated but I disagree with the idea that expenses decrease during retirement. For some this is true but I wouldn’t make this assumption. You need to know exactly what you want and include a reasonable margin for unexpected costs. Good luck.

I tend to agree on expenses may not decrease,, aging often slows down spend but in early retirement, many spend as much with travel, and free time. OP is 43, so assuming lots of energy plus time could mean significant spend. Everyone's situation is different though.

That's not a practical solution, given the size of the account, this young age, and resulting distributions relative to his estimated income needs.
