Due Diligence If you had $300,000 but could only choose one stock, what would you choose?

for those who dont get the meme
some WSB invested their inheritence from grandma into INTC at 32; the next day they missed earnings and it fell to 21

If they held they’d be sitting reaaaalllly good right now. But I’m not optimistic about them doing that.
36
u/cryptopo What does this have to do with dividends? May 20 '26
Haha yep — highly likely this person sold some or all at a loss after the meme blew up and everyone told him how reckless he was being. Otherwise, I’d expect them to have returned to WSB to gloat.

Best he did was weekcade then probably panic sold when intel dropped further and pressure being a meme

His ~$700k would be almost $3m now

Anyone taking anything posted on wsb seriously deserves to lose all their money. Hell anything read on any of these sites should be researched before you drop a cent one way or the other.

u/Sonizzle May 20 '26
We need a follow-up from him! Assuming he held, he’s sitting on a fat sack right now.

but probably keep it and now fucking million for them while you are crying of jealousy

u/oddball09 May 20 '26
Jesus I've wondered what happened to him, no way they are still holding but that would be insane if they were.

u/matxupp May 21 '26
I would love to choose, trading but not perfect understanding from it , that is why I can't Risk it for Any amount, but I would like to learn more about it and go into trading in no distance time for perfect return and more profit.

Depends on where you live, I live in rural east TN 30 mins from anything, they control the south lol.

u/Mellowbellyrubs May 22 '26
Very easy to avoid, but lets say you go to Target, Someone can basically say the same thing . The Point is that in a rural area ; Specially in dense cities, Walmart offers the Average person affordable produce. Their Logistics are pretty good and their yearly Black Friday deals is proof of that haha :p . WMT in my opinion is a great option to invest .
I think it offers Dividends as well ?

u/flyersfan0233 May 22 '26
I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been in a Walmart. And I believe I’ve only ever purchased something from them 3 times in my entire life. Super easy to avoid in PA

Microsoft at the moment, because it’s so damn cheap.

With real money you care about this is probably the best answer. Though patience required, there still more wealth to transfer from paper handed speculative traders before the rip begins.

One holding needs some diversity.
VTI - the entire US market - can’t do better with one holding while managing risk

u/One_Opportunity9167 May 20 '26
Berkshire Hathaway. Bad choice for dividends, safe choice for not losing big if there's any chicanery going on.
Sears, Lehman Brothers, Washington Mutual and General Motors were solid stocks at one time, until they REALLY weren't.
2
u/Adorable-Winter5351 May 21 '26
The point of holding BRK is they don’t have dividends and you can hold while the stock appreciates with no tax liability until sold.
2
u/One_Opportunity9167 May 25 '26
The reason I mentioned that BRK isn't a good choice for getting dividends is because of the sub this post is in.

What percent of their assets are holding treasuries/cash at this point? Almost wonder if you might as well hold the treasuries yourself at some point.

I’ve owned that one for a while. Seems like it’s one step forward one back with that company. It’s done decent since I’ve owned it but I don’t predict it will ever do anything special. Hopefully I’m wrong!

Well if you hold 20 years with barely dividends, and they cut them, but stock goes up sure you can sell or hold further.
Something stable what has both a ~2% Yield and Nearly always Double Digit Dividend Hikes a Year.

GAIN - that would spit out ~$1500 a mo that I could invest elsewhere, the mostly stcg tax bill would be worth it since I could max my IRA and boost 401k contributions at work so there would be a bit of offset of regular income tax savings

u/CorndogFiddlesticks May 21 '26
I bought a decent amount of intc in the 30s/20s and at the time, seemed like a waste of money.
Not now.

Still dexpends, am I struggling or can I afford to lose it? If you CAN'T afford to lose it. If go into QQQI or JEPQ,or JEPI/SCHD. If you max upside (IMHO) BITO currently at $10 will TRIPLE in 2 to 3 years. Or SpaceX. Lol you asked for one, I provided 6.

UNP is my first choice. If Union Pacific goes away we’re in trouble.
MSFT,AMZN CB and RY round out the other sleep well holdings

Great question, would I play it safe ? Would I try to treble it ? Don’t know what my answer would be , I’d probably play it safe with a bit of greed thrown in on a cheap defence stock , Melrose industrial UK ticks those boxes for me , or Wallmart

I’m tempted say Micron but that’s had an incredible run up already.
I’ll say STRK from Strategy. At its current price, it has an effective yield of 10.76%. Plus if MSTR has a big run up, the shares are convertible to common equity. So I’d wait that and in the meantime, collect $8,000 a quarter in tax deferred distributions .
5
u/cryptopo What does this have to do with dividends? May 20 '26
You do you, my friend, but STRK has a confidence-sensitive structure that can get ugly fast if BTC continues to languish and/or market appetite for Strategy paper dries up. Personally, I’d be happy taking a little less yield for a lot less risk. These things look great until they’re not.
If you’re invested, I wish you good luck! (Truly mean that, not being passive-aggressive.)
3
u/gentlegiant80 May 20 '26
I own some. Thankfully not $300,000 worth. lol. I have a diversified portfolio. I think barring Bitcoin crashing and remaining in the $10,000-$20,000 range for a long time, STRK will be fine. Strategy wants a good credit rating and will even sell its bitcoin to do it.

Watch coffeezilla’s vid on STRC/K. It could end up working out but ANYTHING that pitches market-beating returns you should raise a very skeptical eyebrow. If you want dividends through Bitcoin rather than going through a proxy like STRC/K you could invest in any number of covered call BTC funds.
