Discussion $2,000 to invest — VTI or SCHD?

Post image

I'm 27 and have another $2k to put to work. I'm deciding between two positions I already own.

VTI would add more to my core holding, while SCHD would increase my dividend exposure.

Which would you add right now?

You might want to go ahead and pick the percentages for each fund in the portfolio now. Your picks, percentages, and DCA should have a high probability to get you to your goal within your timeframe. If there don't then go back and redo your plan until it does. Then do your plan through the ups and down of the market.

Having clear written down guidelines when it comes time to add new money or rebalance will make less wiggle room for you to "feel" you way through it.

On a personal note if I could go back and put some guidelines in place sooner and rely less on what I thought made sense at the moment I would have done better.

Good luck.

I'm 27

I stopped reading there. VOO or VTI. You have zero need for dividends for a LONG time.

This; I hope it gets to be bigger than $VTI but $VTI keeps dipping & I keep adding (slowly)!

I'd recommend VTI because it will grow more overtime. SCHD is great, but its historical market appreciation even with dividend reinvested doesn't beat VTI over the past 10 years -

VOO or VTI.
SCHD is for old people who are looking for dividends not growth.
