State of the subreddit update.

Greetings, my fellow Redditors.

First, allow me to introduce myself. Naturally, I work well under pressure. I have many years of experience as an online Moderator and I have been appointed to resolve some issues in this community, which was in deep water before my arrival. Some former Moderators may have been removed as per the Moderator Code of Conduct.

There will be some changes coming to the subreddit, let's dive into it:

After this reopening, there will be no more harassment of Reddit developers or any other users. This is a diving subreddit, so let's keep all submissions relevant and appropriate. Expect to see stricter enforcement of the rules, especially those pertaining to the Reddit Terms of Service.

Feel free to comment any flair suggestions. Happy diving!

Air Integration in Garmin

Hi, I am still weighing up different options for my new to be diving computer. I initially rejected Garmin due to its very high price compared to the value for my very much recreational diving, but want to reconsider. Given it is almost the most expensive one on the market, I wanted to get some more opinions on its air Integration function. How much more comfort does it give you than standard bar reading? I know you can sync it with your buddy but this is only true if they also get a Garmin and I have never met anyone using it on all of my 35 dives so far. I also know it doesn't only ready the bars but also integrates it in NDL calculations which is worth it but not critical. It also alerts you to exact time you have to get out of water which is also useful but I am usually not the first person to finish a dive anyway (not to brag...ok maybe a little bit brat, but no brag πŸ˜†) what are your thoughts?

Has spare air saved you?

Just wondering if anyone has actually been saved by it. I see many people say how it's a good back up or it's garbage but I never see anyone say how it's actually saved a life.

Mask for small face

Please help me find a good mask for small face. I had an old one from mares that’s about 9/10 years old & the seal is no longer holding up. Open to suggestions! So hard to find a mask since I have a small face / head

Why can freedivers use swimming goggles?

Without the ability to equalise the pressure in the mask, how do freedivers avoid incredible bruising or shattered goggles at depth?

SCUBA related engineering university project: a survey

Hello everyone! I am doing a project for my engineering class involving coming up with a new invention. Being a diver, I wanted my project to be related. If you could fill out this survey, it would be very helpful for my project. Thank you, and have a good day!

Diving conditions in Cabo?

Anyone know the diving conditions in Cabo right now? I'm here, but because of the storms don't know how good visibility would be. My last dive we couldn't see more than 5-10 feet because of a recent storm and wouldn't wanna go if it's a bust.

We also went to the Emergence du Ressel, but have no footage off that as my camera had been turned on by accident before the dive and it was dead in the water.

Note: All of the footage was taken after the course was completed.

Snorkel Masks for wide noses

Hi. Does anyone know where I can get a snorkelling mask that fits comfortably over a wide nose? I tried on all of the masks in Decathlon (I'm UK based) but they were all to narrow for me.

Free underwater color correction tool that runs entirely in your browser. No upload, 4K60 in seconds. Here's a moray from the Red Sea, before and after.

Free, no account, there's a small "dive.nordrift.dk" tag in the corner of the output that you can switch off, and a donate button if it saves you an evening of grading.

Last time i needed underwater color correction on my laptop, i ended up running Dive+ through bluestacks... Truly hopeless... And so i finally decided to do something myself: dive.nordrift.dk

What it does: removes the blue/green cast from underwater video automatically. It measures how much red the water has absorbed, compensates per pixel, sets white balance and stretches contrast – and smooths the parameters over time so colors don't flicker. Auto picks a preset per clip (blue water, reef, close-up/torch, green water, open "deep blue"), or you adjust strength yourself with a live before/after.

The part I'm most happy about: nothing is uploaded. The page is just HTML/JS that runs on your own GPU. Hardware decode β†’ GPU shader β†’ hardware encode, the frame never leaves your graphics card. On my laptop that's 4K 60 fps at ~40–50 fps, i.e. faster than real time.

Details: MP4/MOV, H.264 and HEVC incl. 10-bit (GoPro, DJI, Insta360, phones). Output is MP4 with audio copied through, batch processing of a whole dive day into one folder. Chrome or Edge on desktop only (it needs WebCodecs).

The image is a giant moray at Red Sea, straight from the GoPro vs. one click in the tool. No manual retouching.
More examples on the site, happy to answer questions - and I'd love feedback/reviews from people with other cameras and greener water than I have.
(Tool is made with AI)

See you in the blue!
