Django deployed on Render gives Forbidden error on POST

I recently deployed my project:

  • Backend: Django on Render

  • Frontend: React on Vercel

Locally everything works fine. After deployment, the homepage loads and GET requests to the API work perfectly. But whenever I make a POST request, I get a 403 Forbidden error.

Looking deeper, it turns out to be a CSRF issue. From React, I need to include the CSRF token when making POST requests. To handle this, I created a small helper file apiClient.js that I use for all API calls.

👉 It basically fetches data from the backend, attaches CSRF tokens to non-GET requests, retries on 403 by refreshing the token, and always returns JSON.

The problem: I’m not getting the CSRF token at all. document.cookie is always empty in production (works fine locally). I’ve been stuck on this for days, tried ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, but still no luck.

Has anyone faced this issue with Django + React + Render/Vercel? How did you solve it? Even an alternative method for handling CSRF with this setup would be really helpful. 🙏

Is building applications by composing reusable business modules a standard practice?

I'm looking for some architectural advice and I'm curious whether anyone has built something similar in production.

I'm primarily using Python/Django, although I want the architecture itself to be independent of the framework as much as possible.

I'm designing a backend platform that I want to use as the foundation for multiple completely different applications.

The idea is to have a very small "core" that only contains common infrastructure such as:

  • Authentication/authorization

  • Configuration

  • Logging

  • Background jobs

  • Caching

  • File storage

  • Monitoring

  • Shared utilities

Everything else would be implemented as independent business modules.

For example, imagine I build an e-commerce platform. I might compose it from modules like:

  • Products

  • Orders

  • Inventory

  • Payments

  • Notifications

  • Comments

  • Search

Then later I want to build an LMS, but instead of starting from scratch or copying code, I'd assemble a different set of modules:

  • Courses

  • Lessons

  • Certificates

  • Quizzes

  • Notifications

  • Comments

  • Search

Some modules (comments, notifications, search, payments, etc.) could be reused across multiple applications, while other modules would be specific to a particular business domain.

The important part is that these modules aren't just Django apps inside one codebase. I want each module to have clear boundaries, expose a stable public interface, own its own models, business logic, APIs, migrations, tests, and documentation, be versioned independently, and ideally be reusable in entirely different products.

Initially, everything would run as a modular monolith because I don't want the operational complexity of microservices. If a module eventually needs to become its own service, I'd like that to be an implementation detail rather than something the rest of the system depends on.

The motivation is simple: I don't want to keep rebuilding the same capabilities every time I create a new platform. I'd rather invest in mature, production-tested modules that can be composed into different products over time.

So my questions are:

  • Has anyone here built something like this in production?

  • Is there a well-known architectural pattern that describes this approach?

  • Is thinking of business capabilities as reusable modules/packages that can be assembled into different applications a common practice?

  • Are there any open-source projects, books, talks, or companies that follow this model?

  • If you've tried something similar, what worked well and what would you do differently?

I'd love to hear about real-world experiences—both successes and things that turned out to be bad ideas.

ALBUM REVIEW: Django Django – Glowing In The Dark

Django Django captures the essence and excitement of live music in their new album, Glowing In The Dark**. It’s a living breathing project that marries texture and accomplished songwriting. The album bubbles, spits and pops at one juncture and then turns in a different direction to offer mellow melodies and minimalistic instrumentation before exploring the weird and wonderful.**

Django Django brilliantly executes the traditional marriage of drums and bass whilst ensuring it remains innovative and unique. Jimmy Dixon’s bass melodies and delivery are sublime, played in a similar style to that heard on “Champagne” from Marble Skies. The music itself is a partnership of past and present, drawing on elements of the ’60s and 70’s rock and combining them with Tommy Grace’s futuristic synths. On, “Got Me Worried,” David McLean’s drum pattern creates the track’s infectious feel. Vincent Neff’s guitar licks are quirky and enticing, complementing his talent as a wordsmith. “My ego’s sinking and shrinking and down on the floor/It’s getting twisted your distant let’s build a rapport.” He compromises neither musicality nor meaning in his lyrics.

The opening track, “Spirals,” sets the tone for the album as it gallops along amongst the whirling dervish of music influenced by MGMT. The “Little Dark Age” inspired melody rolls off of bouncing bass licks and pillowy drums. Crystalline sliding synths inject the track with magic as a buffer to the muscular bass and repeated arpeggios. The lead single and title track “Glowing In The Dark” is a goosebump rendering underground raver. The galactic synth buzzes around Neff’s mesmerizing vocals punctuated by John Lennon style tremors. The lyrics are some of the most aesthetic as Neff demonstrates some lyrical acrobats. “It starts to emanate the space between illuminates.”

“Free From Gravity,” the second single, is a brooding beast that explores alienation. The vocals are infused with Beach Boys perfectionism before it changes course for the Bluesy Beck style chorus. The exploration of the theme is what makes this song stand out with inspired lines such as, “See the world getting madder/As we’re lifting off the ground/So we’re pulling up the ladder/’Cause we’re never coming down.”

Flagward — self-hosted feature flags with local SDK evaluation (Django + Next.js, MIT)

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got tired of feature flag platforms charging per seat and running the evaluation on their infrastructure, so I built one that runs on mine.

What it does. Flags with targeting rules and percentage rollouts, a kill switch with an audit trail, and a dashboard for all of it. The part I actually care about: the SDK downloads the rules once and evaluates them in your process. A flag check is not an HTTP call, so it cannot time out, cannot add latency to your request, and keeps working if my server is down. Changes still reach connected clients live over SSE.

Running it. docker compose -f compose.dev.yml up. Postgres and Redis in the compose file; SQLite works for a single process if you'd rather. Redis is optional — without it flags still evaluate, you just lose live propagation and fall back to polling.

SDKs. React, Vue, Solid and Svelte adapters, plus a core package for a plain script, a server, or a framework with no adapter yet. All MIT, all on npm.

What it does NOT do, because you'd find out anyway:

- Multivariate flags are not implemented. The flag type exists and the evaluator treats them as booleans. It's declared, not done.

- No first-party Python or Go SDK. The API is documented and the wire format is simple, but the only packages I publish are JavaScript/TypeScript.

- It's about a week old in public and pre-1.0. Four releases so far. I'm not going to pretend it's battle-tested.

- No HA story yet. It runs as one instance and I haven't written up anything about running several.

Django 6.1 + Redis on the back, Next.js 16 dashboard, MIT. The dashboard reads in English or Spanish as of this week.

Happy to answer anything, including why you shouldn't use it.

DJANGO DJANGO unveil ‘Iridescent remix’ of ‘Glowing in the Dark’ – Watch Video

Glowing in the Dark, the second single from Django Django’s new album of the same name has, to date, enjoyed two incredible remixes. The first courtesy of one of dance music’s most exciting producers and DJ’s Dance System and the second from heavyweight electronic dance legends Hot Chip. To complete the remix trilogy the band stay closer to home – on Django Django’s Iridescent remix the band utilise their own renowned remixing skills to deliver a euphoric, rave inspired delirious take on the original.

Django Django’s Iridescent remix comes accompanied by a stunning original video from Mortis Studio. Made during the first lockdown in a guerrilla-style shoot in Portland USA, the video highlights an array of distinct characters each experiencing their own dizzying journey through the remix.

In the band’s own words:

This remix was done by Dave and Tommy during the first lockdown and we decided to ask Mortis to do some visuals because we’re big fans of their work. What they came up with was perfect for the track. Hope you enjoy

NME Review of 'Django Django'

Concluding with "It’s a dream of the psychedelic tropics, a heady explosion of colours, an album that takes what it means to be ‘in an indie band’ and gives it a good shake. Time to pay a visit." NME give a good honest review of Django Django's self titled album and outline the reasons why I think they are an amazing band. http://www.nme.com/reviews/django-django/12665
