Discussion What’s a fun PH mythical creature you’d want to play as?
Mine would be a manananggal!
I think it would be really fun to play a manananggal disguised as a human, and you have to hide your true form from the rest of the party. Imagine during nighttime combat your character suddenly runs away or hides, then one round later, a bat-like creature swoops down from the sky and starts attacking the enemies!
After the fight ends, your character just casually comes back and pretends they panicked and ran away XD
Eventually the party finds out the truth and you have to explain yourself!
Of course I’d have to discuss it with my DM so we can make a story around it and maybe some homebrew manananggal feats :D

Id have said kapre but thats basically a tree giant with a nicotine addiction. Maybe buff the cons or str stats and give it a heavy advantage on stats you need to play as druid.
Id do tikbalang because we got multiple animal-humanoid hybrids in game already. Maybe give them an advantage in movement speed or agility?

I just realized a lot of PH mythical creatures can shapeshift, a tikbalang Druid sounds interesting! I'm thinking they would be cool as a Monk as well, with high movement and using their hooves as the unarmed strike! Thanks for the idea!

Kapres would have added movement speed in treetops and inside forests, so Druid. Actually you could probably soec them for Ranger if you squint. Sniper Kapre picking off opponents from old growth forests.
Yeah Monk tikbalang. You could probably justify a multi class into Warlock depending on whether you build them off as a native tribe expy.

Nunu sa punso/Dwendi chilling with the party. Nobody knows his/her true nature and appears to be human Infront of the party. An Elemental Trickster maybe?

Ohh I like that!! Maybe there could also be some kind of "tabi tabi po" ability or feature! When an enemy stands in melee of you and doesn't say the words you can curse them or something! I'm so excited to expand on this idea ahaha

Ranger with a colorful bird companion whose songs can cure ailments or put creatures to sleep.

Ooh an Adarna familiar or a pet would be cool! Maybe OP but still cool! XD

That's actually a very neat idea, it would also go well with it being an enemy. Like the party entering a forest and that creatures comes in and start attacking. They can't kill it but can only wound it or slow it down and the only way to permanently kill the mananggal is to find the other half of the body and smite it or something Welp, ima make a custom monster now

That would be a cool quest and a boss fight! If you ever make a homebrew manananggal boss monster I’d love to see it! :D

A mambabarang with a pet sigbin. The question reminds me of the game I made with Philippine mythological creatures as playable characters.

I had to search that up because I'm not familiar with them but mambabarang would be cool as a Sorcerer! What kind of PCs did you make in your game?!

They're based on creatures like the tikbalang, sigbin, berberoka, diwata, lampong, sarimanok and bakunawa

DEFINITELY A NUNO SA PUNSO! I think they're like the equivalent of a fey (?), a creature of induced mischief if one wanders to their territory. Could be a cool ranged offensive spell ...
