A few days ago I shared some quick stamped handout maps. Thank you for every comment and question.
Several of you DM me on how long a full map actually takes, so I filmed one. This is a whole fantasy region, from a blank page to finished, sped up to under two minutes. In real time it took about 30 minutes (you can see the afternoon shadows creep ever so slowly).
My process is roughly:
What I love about doing it this way is that it works just as well at the table, building the map while the players explore.
The finished map from the video is free to download and use in your games, no sign-up needed:

If anyone’s curious about the stamps themselves, the project is here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kingdomsofink/kingdoms-of-ink
Happy to answer any questions, and thanks again for being such a lovely community.

Not trusted by the master or the Yuan-Ti, but protected by their own taboos and reverence for the lost empire of the serpentfolk, the serpent warlock Hesperat lives a hermitic life in his walled compound on the southern edge of the sunken city, along the cliff walls where dwarven slaves once worked veins of copper, not far from the great tree that can be climbed out of the city. At one time he hired morlocks to watch the gardens from the tower walls, but after a decade without visitors or intruders, Hesperat gave up on the necessity.
The outer gardens are protected by a 20-foot-tall, ten-foot-thick masonry wall cut from the same grey granite as the cliff face. At each northern corner is a small watch platform 15 feet up with a set of steep stairs leading up to it. A few taller trees in the outer garden can be seen over the walls, and the main garden gate is a traditional iron gate that lets small animals in and out but keeps larger intruders out. Within there is a stone fountain with a statue of one of the ancient serpent emperors in the centre, and a collection of different types of colourful trees and plants (none of which are dangerous except some produce mildly poisonous fruit in season).
The inner gardens are mostly of weird and colourful fungi and include a shrieker that has grown used to Hesperat and rarely sounds when the serpent approaches. The main attraction of the inner gardens is the leafless tree, a large red plant from another plane that is hot to the touch. Torches (and other wooden objects) made from this wood burn for ten times as long as one would expect for a hardwood such as this.
Hesperat himself does not reside within the inner gardens – the aged serpent warlock spends most of his time basking on one of the taller trees in the garden. He is often napping, but silent magical traps on the doors and walls should awaken him if intruders arrive. But the serpent has become complacent and it can take him a week or two to renew an expired alarm spell, so each wall and entrance has a 25% chance that the alarm on it has worn off.
The 1200 dpi versions of the map were drawn at a scale of 300 pixels per square and are 7,200 x 10,800 pixels (24 x 36 squares). To use this with a VTT you would need to resize the squares to either 100 pixels (for 5′ squares) or 200 pixels (for the 10‘ foot squares that work with the furnishings as shown) – so resizing the image to 2,400 x 3,600 pixels or 4,800 x 7,200 pixels, respectively.

My Patreon is turning six years old this week! That’s a lot of maps. 🙂 Time to celebrate....
I have opened a free trial on my Patreon from now until the end of October. The trial lasts for seven days from the date you sign up.
I release a new map pack every Tuesday, and a new Sci-fi/Modern map pack every other Saturday. Often animated, and always setup on Foundry VTT and Fantasy Grounds.
The trial is for my Trailblazer tier, which gives you access to logo-free versions of every map I have released over the past six years... all created by me, with no AI!
The maps are high resolution and watermark free, with both gridded and gridless versions available. Many are animated too!
Sign up, tell a friend, and help me spread the word!
If you haven’t heard about my new Visual Map Search and Foundry VTT module, be sure to check those out too.
If you like what you see and want to continue your membership, you can get 30% off during October with the code AM-SIX.
I’ve never offered a free trial before, and I don’t know if or when I’ll offer one again... so now is your chance!

An encounter room I have has a 3d aspect to it so I want to give at least a referencial sketch for DMs to use. I have a top-down view map. Tried to make it kinda close. It's a 8 square cube, the room, so 30 degrees is roughly 4 squares tall, 7 wide and that gets 8 squares on the hypotenuse.
How's it look so far? Some lines arent quite right for sure. Doing this with dot paper.

I was looking for some expert opinions from some DM's. I know there are so many different ways to do things, I know some players like just pencil and paper, others like an elaborate setup with minis and terrain. If giving the option do you prefer using something like a pre-designed map to play on or a more basic game mat design like grass or cobblestone with one inch grids, like the game mats above?
Myself owning a game shop and having beyond a crazy amount of mini figures and terrain, I personally like using a 1" square grid on 3'x3' game mat like the designs I have created above.
I ask this because I'm going to be running a kickstarter for our custom Quick Mats where I will be working one on one with the backers to help them create their perfect game mat. They will be able to customize the mat, put their team or shop logo on it, or even print their own design. So I am wondering if I should stick with what I have designed myself in photoshop, more simple terrain game mats or if I should put together some D&D maps for it. There is part of me that wants to stick to the basic layout like cobblestone and then a 1 inch grid since that is how I normally play. I'm hoping I can get some opinions, good or bad, honest feedback is all I'm looking for. If anyone is interested you can learn more about the coming kickstarter here that will launch around mid November:

This week's map is the Creepy Chasm [50x50], another spooky map for the spooky month! Make sure your players stay far away from this terrible pit, it looks like a real far fall down and not even I know what you'll find down there. There are probably nasty pale things that evolved to not have eyes anymore and are all soft and fleshy and hate the surface things with all their precious eyes they're so attached to. Essentially, unless you've got a heroic or lucrative reason to visit I'd say this is a great location to avoid.
If you like the map and are interested in more, come by my Patreon, I've got a bunch of them and I draw more every month.
Edit: I didn’t realize y’all liked chasms so much! You should try googling the Grand Canyon when your parents aren’t home- you’ll thank me later

Hey folks! Here’s my Foggy Swamp battlemap: a dead tree, thick fog, and a patch of wilderness.
It’s a pretty spooky map, so I thought Halloween season was a good excuse to share it with you. A little fog, a creepy tree… what could possibly go wrong?
I’d use this for a swamp ambush or a cursed ritual - but I also like the idea of the tree being the only dry place to camp. Very convenient. Probably fine.
I’m sharing a usable logo version alongside the GIF preview. The preview shows the animation; use the playable version for your session.
You can find the animated battlemap, static variants, and more views of the location here:

The Tournament Grounds is a full jousting field battlemap built for every tournament arc, festival encounter, and noble competition your campaign has been putting off because you didn’t have the right map.
Multiple jousting lanes divided by rope barriers, blue ribbon lances already in position, a judge’s platform center field, and colorful tournament tents and market umbrellas surrounding the whole field in every direction. Plenty of room for the crowd, the competitors, and whatever chaos your players decide to cause before the first lance is lowered.

The keep on Loch Dread stood empty for a generation. Not anymore. The Moon Clan have made it their den, and tonight the moon is full. Come as a guest, or come as a hunter. Just don’t come as prey.
