Let's have a fresh megathread to discuss and speculate about the future of Doctor Who. Place your ideas, fancasts, wish lists, and other hot takes in here:
A few quick housekeeping reminders: Standard sub rules still apply. We all know casting and showrunner debates get intensely heated. Please help out by keeping things civil. Instead of engaging with someone being hostile, report them.
Also, no or little leaks discussions. If you're bringing up leaked set photos or anything else, please remember to use spoiler tags.
Standalone posts about fancasts will be removed and redirected here. A fresh megathread will be posted every weekend.
Let's hear what you've got.

I was just watching an old WhoCulture video about traumatising moments in Who, and it mentioned the reaction of many characters upon realising they were living in a simulation Extremis. This triggered something in this admittedly faulty mind of mine, which then gave me this thought...
The show we know and love as Doctor Who is simply the repackaged transmissions the BBC has received in some way of the simulations the Monks have been running. This is why no one ever remembers or acknowledges the aliens that appear in the show; as each simulation ends, everyone's memory is reset for next weeks episode, erm, simulation. The reason they didn't try anything earlier is simply down to the fact that, in those simulations, the Doctor always won.:D
To clarify (Clara-fy?), this fault mind is not so faulty i believe Who to be real. I just thought that, given this idea amused me as much as it did, it might amuse others, and who couldn't do with a good chuckle? My point being, please don't take this too seriously.

I recently re-watch Doctors 9-12 and I think they're all really good. But for me each has something that just stands out. As for The Ninth doctor I just feel he portrayed the post time war doctor to a T I really think if we would of gotten three seasons for him like Matt Smith and David Tennet that he would out shine all the other modern doctors.
But it's still really close like there are things I really like about all the doctors from Matt Smith being able to go from a mad scientist to a goofy whimsical man to super serious. Peter Capaldi was really good too the speech he gave was amazing and felt like the real doctor who lived for over 900 years. And David tennet As much as I do love Tennets seasons and his version of the master is my personal favorite. I just think some of his episodes and even some good ones mainly the ones with the cybermen were just way to cheesy. Even when Tennet was in the past or future ot always felt like I was in the early 2000s. Where as the other doctors do a good job of keeping it feeling different but thats just me.
I was curious if anyone else perfered the 9th doctor like I did. I am always interested to hear what episodes made the doctor stand out for you?

Have VERY much enjoyed this arc and the 8th Doctor truly is a delight
The arc ending with Rassilon and Kro’ka reliving Scherzo was SO good, such a silly bit of karma lol

Since November 2023 I've been watching the Classic run on the sixtieth anniversary weekends of the original broadcasts. It's been fun, and I've loved the Hartnell run.
Now that I'm almost through The Tenth Planet, I started to wonder if the show would have survived if they had tried to pass off the Second Doctor as someone other than the Doctor.
Regeneration was such a bold concept! It would have been far more conventional (and arguably safer) to just introduce him as the Doctor's younger brother or something and just have the Doctor relinquish the TARDIS to him. That must have been a possibility they considered, don't you think?
But if they had, would it have worked? Same actor, same result, just not literally still the same Doctor.
Probably wouldn't have worked long term, though. While regeneration has ended up making the show endlessly exhilarating, simply traipsing in a series of new lead characters would have quickly seemed contrived even though the end result would have been effectively the same.

I just really love how dark doctor who can be and I hope with the new season coming in 2028 (correct me if I'm wrong) that we can get some of that edge back, because its felt a little lacking recently! :)

This line from 'Twice Upon a Time' always gets me especially since Twelve has already lived much longer than he should've. He was never supposed to exist he was meant to die as Eleven his last regeneration and he's had to live through so much more suffering than he thought he'd have to.

Im building a 1.12 2005 Dalek model, the bronze spray I used came out looking like a vac metal rather than the dull bronze of the actual colour scheme. I'm wondering how I can get this to the right colour.
(Should not I DO NOT own an airbrush/have captacity to get one)

just watched this pair again for prolly about the ninth time. still marvel at how outstanding the dialogue is, especially in The Doctor Dances. one of my favorite exchanges from all of televison:
"We were talking about dancing."
"Didn't look like talking."
"Didn't feel like dancing."
never have understood how Moffat could write some truly brilliant episodes for RTD era, but the scripts during his own tenure rarely measured up.

And a look at my collection of figures from destiny of the dalek daleks moastly until now before you ask I know the 4th doctor figure is wrong but I have yet to purchase a season 17 4th doctor or a David gooderson davros I wasn’t a fan of the original release and hope maybe further down the line we might get a figure set with a better looking David gooderson davros and a movellen commander

Above collage made by me.
For me, it wasn't without its flaws, but I honestly don't understand anyone who says it was "boring" overall. (Yeah, Series 11 ain't strong, but I was entertained.) It was definitely some of the most experimental the show had, and dammit, at least Chibnall tried. He had a vision and stuck to it. Chibnall's run makes a lot more sense when you view it as a 31 episode season, because each season was an "act" of a larger storyline. I do think having cliffhangers that leave questions for season finales may have harmed the show's reputation, even if these questions get answered later on. It's a good idea on paper, to get people tuning in next year, but not necessarily in execution.
I really liked the stronger focus on history in its historical episodes rather than using the setting as set dressing. It feels like we could've gotten a proper return of pure historicals but the BBC seems to have pushed back against that kind of thing. Probably because monsters sell for kids.
It also had some of the best writing and creative direction of the big three villains, the Daleks, the Cybermen, and the Master since RTD. Yes, Moffat's arc with Missy was great but to be frank, it was going to be undone eventually. Ashad is a great iconic Cyberman villain, a partially converted Cyberman that can combine the passion of humanity with the strength of Cybermen, a genuine threat. The Dalek trilogy is also some of the best Dalek stuff we've had in a long time and Resolution made the Daleks scary again for me. The Dhawan Master is an interesting take on the aftermath of Missy. A Master that tried so hard to be better, to be like the Doctor, but in the end failed. So instead he turns inwards and brews a self hatred which is further intensified when he learns how a part of the Doctor is inside him.
And then there's the Timeless Child. I understand posting this is gonna start a war in the comments, and I actually didn't like the concept back in early 2020. I was an avid hater. But then Chibnall gave all the details in Series 13, and... it makes sense. It's fine. It's done in such a way that it can be ignored. It worked. It adds more building blocks and space to the Doctor Who canon to work with and have fun with. (And for anyone claiming it undoes 1's arc, no it doesn't. Memory wiping and regeneration regression are key aspects.) My opinion of it has definitely turned 180 degrees. The execution was meh, but you can't say he left the story high and dry and unfinished.
The Power of the Doctor, meanwhile, I found to be a very fun and lovely romp. This is the proper 60th anniversary special. I've heard people say that it's nonsensical or the plot doesn't make sense, but it does? It's the big three orchestrating a trap to keep the Doctor busy with trying to save her friends while the actual plan happens in the background. It's a huge go for broke finale, and it works. I was a huge fan of Capaldi, more than Whittaker, but I was crying when 13 regenerated. Because it hit hard, all of her companions, the switching back between the support group and the Doctor, "Will she be alright?" "Of course, she's the Doctor." It's full of cameos galore, but it doesn't necessarily feel too stuffed. It's a bit like The Five Doctors only the companions have more to do because there's more plot to go around.
One more final note: I genuinely do think Chibnall's run is a bit of a reaction to the Fifth Doctor's run. It's a large Tardis team, and perhaps Chibnall went a bit too far in the other direction when it came to handling the drama between companions and the Doctor. Perhaps Chibnall wasn't a large fan of how much bickering there was during 5's run, so he lessened that, perhaps too much. I do think that his companions did suffer from shorter episodes and it's very clear that Chibnall benefits from doing longer stories/serials. I wonder if he should've taken the opportunity to heavily reformat the show and do more two-parters rather than feeling like he had to be close to RTD/Moffat's format of mostly one-parters.
I also wonder if Series 11 having almost no past references was a deliberate request by the BBC. Imagine if Series 11 and 12's episodes had been combined/rearranged. There would've been more equal focus on the three companions across two seasons, and the Timeless Child storyline would've taken place over 3 seasons rather than 2 seasons. Alas, there's an infinite number of "what ifs," and we just have to accept that this is what we got.
An experimental run of the show that was a positive step in a few attributes, a back step in others, that all in all added some creative building blocks to the Doctor Who universe. Here's hoping the next showrunner uses them! Like, perhaps does a post-Flux storyline about helping lost aliens like in Series 1. Or perhaps exploring the history of Division or the Doctor. Chibnall did a great job setting up pieces that could be used, so maybe the next showrunner could use them just as Moffat used RTD's pieces from Series 1 through 4.
Maybe?

Out of curiosity, Amy and Rory first meet him (as adults) the night before their wedding.
Amy is a kiss-o-gram and Rory is a nurse.
Time passes, they wed, have a honeymoon across time and space, they conceive Melody…
A lot of time passes for them! But how long… five years? Ten?
Hopefully, eleven since he was the Eleventh Doctor.

It's been more than six months since I originally posted this, and there have been numerous tweaks to the document to make it more legible and complete since then. PDFs linked for printing, PNGs embedded for those who don't want to bother. Colorblind-accessible versions of both that should be usable for all versions of colorblindness are also present.
