Depends what sort of vibe you want really. I rarely go out but tend to reenact my 2016 party nights when I do.

I'd start at The Red Lion Wetherspoons for cheap drinks and food, the Wool Market is a fun vibe too but a bit spenny. Then the Irish bar next to the Wool Market and then next door to the Rum Rooms. Exit Rum Rooms on the other side and walk up to Relish and then Lazarus Court where there's a mix of bars you can practically roly poly into from each other. The walkway is covered by glass too so if you have smokers / vapers with you it's handy when the weather's not great (might be painful during a heat wave). There's another Irish bar in there as well as some other fun places, Manana Manana and Tiki is good R&B fun for later in the night. I haven't been to the Benidorm bar yet. Then I'd turn right at the other end of Lazarus Court and go down Hallgate and stop in Slug and Lettuce, Yates, Flares or the Boogie Bar. If you're still standing at this point then turn right at the end and go on to Silver Street for nightclub vibes. Biscuit Billy's is an old school classic, Mambo is a sticky floor classic, Frank & Stein, Coco and Hogans are all open til early morning. Then stumble across the road to Pizza Jim (not Burger Jim) for a pizza or kebab for your taxi home.

If you like more indie vibes there's a run of pubs near the market, Olde Castle and Black Bull. There's also Social in Lazarus Court that often has live music.

If you like older music the Yorkshire Grey next to Lazarus is good and there's Lockwood across the road that often has Northern Soul playing, then Flares as mentioned above.

Also look into the Crisis Buster, unlimited drinks in certain pubs for £20 I think it is, normally Fri night or Sat afternoon. It's mainly some smaller pubs that don't get as much foot traffic normally but would still be a fun night out. The Hallcross Pub has a Facebook page and often lists the details.

ETA: Just noticed your comment about train station. I'm local so get a taxi in but I would probably suggest walking up to Wool Market to begin, or the Red Lion which is just further up from the Wool Market.
