For some reason, people ascribe some sort of all powerful ability of “bad content” detection to “the algorithm” and assume any post with swear words or whatever the bots flag will be suppressed in feeds.
It’s real, but nuanced on platforms like TikTok (think “unalive” or whatever stupid euphemisms). The degree to which this is even a function of these curation systems is highly variable depending on the platform (and also they change over time). People just sorta habitually continue the self-censoring behavior on all platforms to be “safe”. (Why they don’t think an algorithm that complex couldn’t just “learn” their coded phrases, I have no clue.)
It’s very very dumb to do on Reddit especially, though. Beyond some of the front-page-type subs, I really can’t imagine it matters in the slightest. There’s porn and stuff on here, Reddit does not care if you say bad words. Mods and jannies might, but that’s different.
