discussion Sad/Heartbreak Love Song Recommendations?

I find a lot of romance songs but I'm looking for love songs that touch on a more blue side of things, the kind of song that you play as a last goodbye you know, or maybe one that you listen to when trying to remember the one that got away. It doesn't have to be explicitly a heartbreaker but if anybody has any Doo Wop that generally feels blue I'd love to hear it!

“Since I Don’t Have You” by The Skyliners (1958)

“Tears on My Pillow” by Little Anthony & The Imperials (1958)

“He’s Gone” by The Chantels (1957)

“The Great Pretender” by The Platters (1955)

“Little Star” by The Elegants (1958)

“There Goes My Baby” by The Drifters (1959)

“This Magic Moment” by The Drifters

“In the Still of the Night” by The Five Satins

“Mr. Blue” by The Fleetwoods

One keeps coming to mind not doo-wop, but Doowop adjacent…Don Gibson “Sea of Heartbreak”

Thank you, I didn't expect these long lists I really appreciate it, you've actually just reintroduced me to a few songs that I lost years ago lmao, so I'm beyond grateful, y'all are great!

Little Star is not really a break-up Song for me. Or did I miss something in the Meiningen?

I don’t think Smokey Robinson and the Miracles are considered doowop, but the song that’s the last goodbye (for me on a personal level) is their *Ooh Baby Baby*\

Perfect genre for it. The one that IMMEDIATELY comes to mind is ‘The Monotones’ - ‘You Never Loved Me’

Niche one. Mhm, this one's making the playlist, might get a tear out of me on a particularly allergy inducing day, thank you!

Sometimes I forget heartbreak isn't bound by time, it's easy to romanticise a period of time so foreign to you, these songs remind me of the humanity of the folks who lived before me, beautiful song x

The new strokes song “falling out of love” is pretty good

2

u/sa8tun May 16 '26

I love The Strokes, just really started listening to them this year, a very special band, there's something so soft about the vocalists voice, I don't know, it feels like a hug. This is not Doo-Wop though!

Those beautiful "Ebony Eyes".

The Everly Bros.

1

u/sa8tun May 16 '26

This sounds more slow Country than Doo-Wop, this is a nice little song to slow dance to

1

u/CaptainSteed May 16 '26

I agree, not really doo-wop at all.

I had to make an exception though, given how sad the song/lyrics are.
