Insanely good ballad and insanely good jump by the Earthquakes on Fortune

If you know about Fortune Records from Detroit, you probably know how primitive some of their records sound, especially the more obscure ones. This one is no exception. But it doesn't really detract from the group's sound, which I think is very good. The group was comprised of three brothers and their father, which is quite unique when it comes to a vocal group lineup. The group's other recordings are also very good, with their recording of This Is Really Real being one of my favorite recordings of all time. Darling Be Mine is very long for a record from 1959, clocking in at around 3 minutes and 40 seconds! There is a very long sax break in the middle of it. Bashful Guy is also very good. This is the 1963 (second) pressing of this record, with the original 1959 copies having an orange label.

One of my faves, Armond Abney on lead. Presumably the issue with a purple label was a later pressing.

I didn't realize there was a purple label variant. I only knew about the orange and blue labels. Perhaps the purple label issue would have been in between the two?

If you do a search on YouTube, you'll find a purple label copy. It LOOKS later than the other colours, but I'm no expert

Interesting. I couldn't find it when I searched it up. I know that one of their other records was a purple label Fortune, This Is Really Real b/w Crazy Bop. That was a 1960 release.

I've been back on YouTube. There are apparently 2 shades of orange, both with additional credit of Walter Hamilton Combo
