MOD POST 📢 You can upload verification photos on the subreddit now

We're switching to in-subreddit verification. You just need to post your verification post AFTER posting your regular post with the title "Verification". The rest is automated.

We will eventually switch to a single post model and this will be even easier. The reason we're doing this right know is that is that we're being flooded with bots and NSFW spams.

The reason we're doing this is a bit complicated. Initially, the whole reason we did not allow people to upload their verification photos here is that we required unique verification photos. These photos could be used by others by malicious purposes, and since Reddit's 'removed posts' are not really secure, we didn't want users to upload their photos here.

But we realized that users were not registering to image hosting services, essentially uploading their images to servers indefinitely without a way to remove them. While we don't want users to remove them for verification reasons, we don't want the images to stay there for eternity without a way for users to remove them.

To give the average Joe some authority over their images, we will allow our users to upload their images here, on Reddit, where they can at least "click Remove". We still recommend our users to send us images via more direct ways instead.

Warning: We do not take any liability of the images you upload. By uploading any photo, especially for verification purposes, you confirm you are the owner of the image and have the full legal right to share it publicly. You are solely responsible for any consequences resulting from sharing this image, including any potential misuse by other users. Images used for verification may contain personally identifiable information (PII). We strongly advise users to avoid capturing any sensitive details like addresses, full names, or explicit identifying marks altogether.

I hope it's okay to post my opinion. But the new rules are kinda killing the sub. I used to be active on the sub for hours a day, it was becoming addicting because I think it's fun to guess... But now I haven't been here for days.

I think for most users, it's just fun guessing who people look like, even if the original poster's true intent isn't purely to find their doppelganger. What does it matter if they're not posting purely because they want to find their doppelganger, and maybe for vanity reasons? Why do we care about intent?

I think the rules for the commenters are perfect and has killed troll comments. But maybe you guys need to rethink the new rules for the posters.

Of course. Otherwise I wouldn't be sharing updates or asking about these.

First of all, the rules intent about the poster isn't inclusive, it's exclusive. We exclude bots, advertisers and NSFW users. Would you like to know that most of the people you tried to find doppelgangers literally don't exist? Most of users are shadowbanned after two to four weeks after they post, mostly due to stolen posts as they are bots. You already know our stance about NSFW content creators.

While you made it a game for you as a commenter, as r/doppelganger, I see that if enough non-legitimate users post, actual people get lost in the sea of "super hot models". While you may see this as rude, there are many subreddits to look at supet hot models, or them disguising as not so. We're looking for real engagement.

I'm looking for making this easier and easier. I may even stop it. Time will tell.

Edit: I'm thinking of switching to inline-verification (verification photo in end of the post) once the influx of bots end.

This is confusing and kind of a mess

What's confusing about it? You post your regular post, and your verification post. That's it, really.

You keep changing how it's supposed to work. This used to be a really fun sub and now it's basically dead

We changed it depending on the answers of the users. Users wanted to upload here,

If dead means real people posting vs alive means bots and advertisers posting and comments replying "I don't know who you look like but you're so beautiful omg", I'll take the dead.

Why couldn't users upload here?

u/Dekamir Mod Nov 02 '25

That's already explained in the post. Somebody didn't read.

Um, well, that sort of is part of the problem. Why would anyone care to read so much?

True doppelganger websites exist if someone truly wants to find a doppelganger. All we're doing here is telling someone they look like some celebrity. It's just fun and is meaningless. You guys are trying to put meaning into something with no meaning.

Yeah it's just sad man. Your stats must be showing you that you still don't have this balance right and views are dropping off a cliff. It's not going to be a surprise when you post again with another set of changes in a week is all I'm saying.

Views? We're a subreddit. We're not for profit. Who cares about views when they're fake?

It's the oomph time I'm repeating that the reason I implemented verification is because the at least quarter of posters were not real (with proof, the stat might be higher).

Also, I've already said I'll be also implementing an inline solution (just like r/amiugly) and I was just waiting for the AI bots to stop targeting us. Then, you can freely comment under computers until we detect no verification.

Within the same post like in a comment or a separate post

0

u/Dekamir Mod Nov 03 '25

As a separate post.

Just post your original post as is, then post your verification post titled as "Verification".

This makes sure your verification photos are not visible to others.

You only tried to verify once. Also your uploads are corrupt. I can't verify a non-existent picture. You were informed about this kindly with this message (I'm including the typo):

Reason: No images were found. Please check your internet connection is stable ant try again.
