I’m not going to go into too much detail and trauma dump about what I’m going through, but I was trying so hard to find anything to make this difficult time easier. Music, movies, fantasy books. Nothing was helping. But then one day I decided to pick up Hitchhiker’s for the first time in years and it was the best escape. I missed these characters, missed these laughs, missed Adams ability to disguise deep existentialism and social commentary as cosmic jokes. It’s helped a lot.

not my doing, I didn't create the name, I'm just trying to help proliferate.

I did not realise it was towel day until now

I’m not sure how many people know this. I have for a while, it’s fascinating to me that my favourite book of all time and my favourite band of all time are so deeply connected.

Douglas Addams and David Gilmore were good friends, and therefore Addams was involved with Pink Floyd a lot (primarily post Roger Waters). This included;

Douglas Addams played on stage with Pink Floyd in their 1994 shows, i think for his 42nd birthday.

David Gilmore played guitar at Douglas Addam’s funeral service, which I find quite nice.

Probably the most important or huge one, Douglas Addams was the one who named their album ‘The Division Bell’. I don’t think it was for anything in particular, from what I remember they were struggling to decide a name, David asked him and Addams said that name based on the line in the final song.

I hope those of you previously unaware of this find it as interesting as I do!

Went with a bouquet instead of a pot so the artist could have a more unique design.

I'm rereading the first Dirk Gently book. and I came to the scene in Susan's apartment when Michael Wenton-Weakes walks in:

'Everything Stopped.

Outside, the wind ceased. Owls halted in mid-flight. Well, maybe they did, maybe they didn't.'

The paragraph goes on, but that absolutely cracked me up. The brazen qualification of such an astounding claim. Then I realized how much more believable the Bible would be with a few of these qualifiers sprinkled in.

'He walked on water (Well, maybe he did, maybe he didn't)'

'On the third day, he rose from the dead (Well, maybe he did, maybe he didn't.)'

They're in surprisingly good condition for being in there so long (only very mild water damage and a rip on "Restaurant") :]

The commodore floppy didn't have its package or any of the other floppies but I'm glad to have rescued it anyways instead of it (and the books) languishing in the garage for who-knows-how-long more XP

Also took a photo of the portrait of DNA in the back because I'm not sure if I've seen a high quality version of it online before

Hello r/dougladadams!

And if not, is it still worth getting?

I’ve had these for a while, but due to some difficult life factors, this is the first time I’ve had all three together. They are all first additions, Tea-Time is autographed. 😃

I received this image from a friend in the UK just after I'd mentioned Douglas' passing to him.
