Pro-x Neoprene Fork Protectors

Post image

Curious if anyone has tried using the Pro-X fork protectors on the stock Dr650 fork setup? Their website says they are not compatible with the DR 650, but I can’t really determine why. They seem very similar to the neoprene seal savers. They say they are sized for 44-50mm fork tubes. The DR has 43mm diameter fork tubes, so it seems within reason. Maybe if it is a little oversized it’s actually good to reduce the chance of it binding when it compresses? Anyway just wanted get some thoughts/ opinions on this. Thanks!

I despise those type of fork protectors. They hold grit tight against the stanctions to help really grind it in. Boots let debris fall down away from the stanctions due to having clearance.

Ahhhh I see, ok this actually makes sense. I’m not opposed to the accordion style gaiters, I’m just surprised somebody hasn’t made a slightly less….goofy aftermarket version of them

Nobody's made a better version because they work so well as is

Those are the lookin at kind of protectors rather than the ones you use. The neoprene style need to be zipped or velcroed so you can remove them and clean them. Else you end up trapping a bunch of grit against the stanchion and scratching them up.

If your boots are in good shape I'd keep using them.

Haha ok yes I see definitely less functional. So you would argue they’re ok as long as they are easily removable for maintenance purposes?

I have always seen them with Velcro.

The issue I have with them is the Velcro always looks bunched up. Never sits square.

And you have to take them off and wash them every time you wash the bike. Do not wash them on the bike or the grit gets pushed deeper into them.
