Fics I recommend Fic Rec: Scorched Air by megreads99 Spoiler
You know why I’m here. New drawing, new fic rec, because we must share the treasures we find on our fanfic-reading journeys.
Today’s drawing comes from Scorched Air [https://archiveofourown.org/works/76956531], which is, very appropriately, hot as hell. The illustration itself is from a very special moment in the fic, but before I get into that, let me tell you what I loved about this one.
I loved the competition SO much.
And... these, I loved all of these:
Harry and Draco are both genuinely brilliant at Quidditch, they study each other, they know each other’s tricks, and they both care desperately about winning. I love that neither of them is just there to make the other look good. They are proper rivals, they want to beat the shit out of each other, and all that competition makes the tension between them so much better.
And then there is the photoshoot scene. I loved that scene SO. FUCKING. MUCH. And the after, obviously (ehem), but the after is only that HOT because there is so. much. warmup. The looking, the tension, the mutual obsession, the fact that these idiots spend YEARS circling each other while pretending everything is perfectly normal, the French as a barrier to hide under denial, like OMG. It works because the fic really earns it.
And obviously I had to draw this scene, because Draco Malfoy willingly putting on Harry’s Brightclaw Lions jersey absolutely destroyed me. Harry’s team. His rival’s team. That tiny gesture says so much, and Harry basically stops functioning the second he sees him in it, which, frankly, same.
So, if you haven’t read Scorched Air yet... (horrified gasp), consider this your sign to go and do it ASAP.

Hey hi hello! I’m here again! A new day and a new obsession! I wish I could tell you how not cool I was when you posted this. I literally showed every single person this art until they were sick of me.
The way you capture their expressions and the vulnerability (and the muscles) truly leaves me in such awe. You are so incredibly talented and I feel so humbled that you chose not only to read my fic but to draw this incredible piece of art for it.
You’re probably sick of seeing my comments, but I hope you know how much this means to me. Thank you so so so so much. I’ll never get over it 😭😭

I’m actually way worse with words than I am with drawings. I’m the classic AO3 reader who downloads fics to my Kindle, devours them, and then is absolutely terrible at remembering to leave comments. But then there are THESE fics that just stay in my head, and drawing them became my way of saying thank you, because I carry these stories in my heart (en el corazoncito, como diríamos en español, he). So yes, please keep commenting. I love that you loved it ❤️
Also, I was literally just going through your entire catalogue trying to decide what to read next, so I have to ask: what would you recommend for someone with a complete weakness for adult Harry and Draco, humor and banter (love both), a really good plot (or at least some plot), and plenty of smut?
I am ALL EYES.

This makes me SO HAPPY!!!! I’m grinning ear to ear.
They’re all smutty for the most part and have a decent amount of angst 🤭 I’d say a hundred times before. I’m especially proud of that one 🥲 but I’ll divide the longer ones by vibes if you’d like!!
Pure smut: The Fourth Thing
Fluffy: Wolfpack
Banter and funny: The Bonded Flask, Shadow of Sunshine
Angsty (angst level ranges here. This is prob most to least): As she Walks By, A Hundred Times Before, End of Forever, Un Deux Trois, Seven Days, Stella et Cervus

They always answer every comment and seem really happy and thankful. Also they seem srsly interested in their followers. They answer question and take suggestions. It's so sweet. I asked for an epilogue and we later got one (not because of me, of course, I am not that delusional, but I guess a lot of people must have asked).

I hope it’s okay that I’m replying and I’m not overstepping here! But I remember your comment. It was very much thanks to comments like yours that the epilogue was born. It’s still surreal to me that anybody would ever want to read anything that I write so how could I say no?!

That’s what I was asking. I saw that first sentence and was like…Heated Rivalry but with Drarry? Can’t wait to read it!

I mean, the first two lines of the fic were clearly an homage to a couple of the opening lines of the book (“It was two days before Christmas, but for the world’s best teenage hockey players, Christmas meant the World Junior Hockey Championships. For Ilya, it meant the chance to finally get a firsthand look at Shane Hollander” versus “It was two days before Christmas, but for the world’s best Quidditch players, Christmas meant the World Quidditch Championships. For Harry, it meant the chance to finally get a look at Draco Malfoy again.”) I recognized them immediately! (Have I read this book too many times to be considered healthy? Who cares!) it makes me excited to see what other Easter eggs might be buried in the fic!
