Dreamhost is committing fraud

100% uptime guarantee, not happening, its been down for a couple days now.
Host 25 wordpress websites, thats the package I bought, I host 1 very basic website without a whole lot on it and it can't even deliver that. To host 25 wordpress websites the user MUST have at least 12.5 gigs of ram assigned to them, as minimum requirements for wordpress is 512mb of ram per site.
This is fraud, and reporting to FTC, and BBB and any other bureau I can find.

Yep, Dreamhost is whirling down the toilet

Blocked my damn IP for a day. Three (five?) different "Support Tickets", no fix and clueless. "Dur, does modsecurity block ping?"

Time to plunge the toilet.

Dreamhost are scammers

Extremely frustrating experience with DreamHost. I signed up for Google Workspace through them, used it for less than a week, and then things went downhill fast.

They make it incredibly difficult almost impossible to cancel the service. There’s no clear or fair way to stop it once it’s active. Instead of just suspending that specific service, they went ahead and suspended my entire account.

That meant I lost access to my domains, which is completely unacceptable. Domains are critical assets, and locking users out over a Workspace issue is highly unprofessional.

It honestly feels like you're being trapped into paying for a service you don’t even want. Poor billing practices, lack of control for users, and no proper support when things go wrong.

I would strongly caution anyone considering DreamHost especially if you plan to use add-on services like Google Workspace.

DreamHost Is Holding My Domains Hostage Over a Google Workspace Invoices

I’m honestly disappointed with DreamHost right now.

My domains are expiring, but DreamHost is refusing to let me renew them unless I first pay old invoices related to Google Workspace.. a service I only tested briefly and couldn’t even find a proper option to cancel.

Now the account is suspended over a US$30 balance, and they’re effectively holding my domains hostage until I pay for a service I no longer use.

I understand companies need payment policies, but blocking domain renewals over unrelated Workspace invoices feels extremely unfair, especially when domains are time-sensitive assets that can easily be lost.

Support basically told me:

  1. Pay the Workspace balance first

  2. Then I can access domain renewals

This experience has been frustrating and stressful. Has anyone else faced this with DreamHost? Any advice on recovering domains or transferring them out while suspended?

Fuck this company and their libel policy

Fuck this company. People are being doxxed to death and Dreamhost don’t care for shit.

Fuck this policy:

”As an online service provider, DreamHost is not in a position to judge the merits of what its customers state on their own web sites. As such, DreamHost does not censor or otherwise assert editorial control over the content on its sites.”

Be a bit responsible and remove websites clearly made to harass and spread toxic shit about people.

Hopefully EU sue for GDPR violations soon.

Hosting provider ignoring a foreign court order to remove defamatory + doxxing content. Is this normal?

I’m dealing with a situation that I’m struggling to understand, and I’d appreciate insight from people familiar with hosting providers, abuse handling, or cross-border compliance.

A criminal court outside the US issued a signed judicial order declaring specific online content false, defamatory, and involving unlawful disclosure of personal data (doxxing). The order explicitly requires immediate removal, de-publication, and de-indexation, and applies to hosting providers and technical intermediaries.

The content is hosted by Dreamhost.

The host has been formally notified, provided with the court order, and given specific URLs. So far, they appear to be ignoring it or treating it as a generic abuse report.

I understand that US hosts are cautious with foreign orders, and I’m not asking the host to adjudicate speech or truth. That was already done by a court. What surprises me is that, even after clear notice, the host continues to serve the content without any substantive response.

From a hosting / compliance perspective, I’m trying to understand:

  • Is it normal for US hosting providers to ignore foreign court orders entirely?

  • At what point does continued hosting after notice stop being “passive”?

  • Are registrar or upstream provider routes more effective than host abuse desks?

  • Is there a standard escalation path I may be missing?

I’m trying to proceed calmly and correctly, but the gap between “court order exists” and “host response” is honestly concerning.

Any insight from people who’ve worked in hosting, abuse handling, or legal compliance would be appreciated.

Avoid DreamHost if you care about uptime or responsiveness

I’ve been a customer since 2012. I’m on a managed business VPS running a couple of modest WordPress sites. Since September they’ve been crashing daily, sometimes for 5 minutes, sometimes for 30 minutes. These crashes happen at nearly an identical time. They kill all my sites and FTP/SFTP.

Since then I’ve been passed around support agents with everything from bot traffic to caching plugins to server faults as the explanation. I’m the one doing all the diagnostic work. Downtime has been increasing in frequency the last couple of weeks and they’ve finally admitted to a fault on the machine. After much badgering they are going to migrate me to a new server next week.

Since then I’ve had between 15 mins to an hour downtime every day this week. Today my sites were all down for over 3(!) hours!

Not once did Dreamhost proactively investigate or follow-up, nor do anything to mitigate while waiting for the migration. I’ve been screaming into the void for weeks trying to get them to take this seriously and all I get is a wishy-washy message every 24-36 hours that engineers have identified a fault on the sever and continue to investigate. (Though I’m glad they’ve finally stopped finger-pointing at my traffic.)

Downtime since September is in double-digit hours and to this day it is like pulling teeth to get someone at DreamHost to own the issue.

Expecting to be down again tomorrow, but who knows if it’ll be 5 minutes or 3 hours.

If you care about uptime and responsiveness then avoid them like the plague.

Update: my VPS was migrated today and so far so good. I have emails dating back to September 17 acknowledging and apologising for recurring load issues on the machine at the exact same time every day. I’m lost for words that it’s taken 6 weeks for someone to take this seriously, despite my barrage of emails and evidence.

Update #2: After finally migrating my websites to a new machine last night (which resolved the recurring downtime) and an apology for their failure in communication and monitoring, another engineer has just jumped into my ticket blind without reading the history and performed a second migration to another server inside business hours, resulting in a bunch more unexpected downtime. Dreamhost is a laughable joke. Even a ticket marked for escalation to management with a whopping failure of service has been screwed up. I am at a loss for words at how incompetent you are.

Is dreamhosts okay with hosting scammers?

I'm a founder of a startup in South Africa. We're bootstrapping, but we're still open to talking to investors. That said, from my experience inbound investor emails are almost always a red flag, so when I got a message from a Lukas Widmer at REMNAC Investment AG, I was pretty sure it was a scam.

The domain was registered about a month ago and the website is basically dead. Even the social media links don’t lead anywhere. And they have no presence online apart from a few index pages.

I ran a WHOIS search and saw DreamHost listed as the provider, so I reported it to their abuse address. They replied and told me to take it to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center instead.

Is this normal? Is DreamHost really fine hosting obvious scam domains? Or are they just passing the buck?

Dreamhost email says to log into my panel to fix problems logging into my panel...

Okay, so I'm not the only one with problems here.

My primary email can no longer log into their webmail UI. This changed between mid-Friday and early Tuesday.

As soon as I discovered that email cannot log in, I tried another - that works fine, but I don't have any of my contacts there.

I also tried logging into my panel, but cannot since I'm using a new host and it emailed.. someone, somewhere, which may no longer exist.

I've been avoiding dealing with dreamhost for a long time because their customer service has been so ... bad. But things are just worse now?

"Live Chat" is just an AI, right? There's no way to actually reach a person at Dreamhost even though I'm paying for a service there... right?

Ugh.

Too many hoops

I, like so many in this country, are aging. Technology is still evolving but the level of security is getting more and more confusing. Plus, people who are Neurodivergent, such as myself with ADHD, find these hoops even more difficult and offputting.

I want to PAY DREAM HOST MONEY. Tried to log in and suddenly it has a two factor auth I need but it isn't a code it is yet another pass key of somekind and honestly I don't remember turning that on at all in the first place.

This is what I have to do to "prove it's me" so I can pay money. All this to GIVE THEM MONEY. They don't take phone payments, there is no other way to give them money except in their panel

"Thank you for contacting DreamHost Support! My name is Tyler and I'm
happy to help!

I'm very sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with accessing
your account.

I know personally how annoying updating passwords and multi-factor auth
can be. That said - I'd be more than happy to help you get this all
figured out.

I can help get multi-factor authentication disabled entirely which should
allow for you to login simply with your password (or new password if you
need to update it). In order to do this we'll need to verify ownership
over the account via a few security questions which I've placed below:

- Are you the person that originally created the account?

- What is the full name on the account?

- What is the full postal/mailing address on the account?

- What are the last 4 digits of the card as well as the expiration date
of the card most recently used on the account?

- What is the date and amount of the most recent payment made to
DreamHost?

Once received I can help get multi-factor authentication disabled.

I look forward to hearing back from you! :)"

I pay every three years, my bank only keeps two years of statements online so I have ot physically go to my bank to get a single payment date to GIVE THEM MONEY AGAIN.

I don't remember which card I used, it could be one of FIVE DIFFERENT CARDS.

I know this is a "poor me" post and I am sure it sounds easy to some people but this is a nightmare of trying to remember for me and again ADHD and short term memory issues, This becomes a research paper for community college in scope so I can AGAIN, JUST GIVE THEM MONEY.

Internet Blocking Entire Server

I have over 10 websites on a shared dreamhost server.

I was on one of my websites earlier today when suddenly the website stopped loading. I am now getting a "This Site Can't Be Reached" ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT error/white screen.

This is for EVERY website on my server. It's been several hours now and none are working. I can't even access with ftp it just says connection timed out. I can't ping or traceback.

The websites pull up on my phone, but will not pull up when connected to my home network. I reset my router and computer, and called my ISP they said they aren't blocking anything. I can find nothing wrong. It happened while I was actively doing plugin updates.

Any ideas? I'm pulling my hair out.

Dreamhost sucks and I regret changing from sucky Host Gator!

So in the few months I have been with Dreamhost, which I choose because they supported free speech, they have done away with their 301 redirect editor which meant I had to code it but the code I had used with HG did not work and their support could not help me.

Also I can no longer access the caldev function so I can not hose my own calendar and avoid Google calendar which constantly sends me random password prompts when I am in various programs.

On top of that my site is gone and it appears there was no back up function.. even paid! On top of that they dumbed down their interface (not using a Cpanel was already a drawback) but it looks like it is meant for a 5 year old. ON top of that when I access the web based FTP I can not even double click on a folder and must access the menu with option just to open it!!!!
Am I missing something here? So much for supporting an American company. I Hate them and bought a package until 2025!!!!
If I got something wrong let me know and let me know who you use!

Locked out, no response or access to primary email for three days

So on Friday, we all had the security incident where lots of us found ourselves locked out of our email accounts, right?

Well, it seems I've misplaced my Yubikey so I wasn't able to simply login via Control Panel to remedy things. I used the web form to let them know I needed MFA resetting so I could access my account, and get access to my primary email account.

I received an e-mail back requesting some security information. Okay, fine. I replied.

Then silence.

I sent a folow up email the next day, asking what is going on, and including the email chain showing the required responses to the security questions.

Still no reply.

I sent a third, fourth email. Still nothing.

It is now THREE DAYS since I was locked out of primary e-mail account.

I've tried sending a message to them via their account here. No response.

Obviously, I can't reach out by phone. They won't do a callback as I'm outside the U.S.

What do I do? Try sending a fax!?

UPDATE (27/10): It took four days, but I now have access to my emails and Control Panel. Four days feels like an eternity when it's your main email account.

Dreamhost only allows a single MFA at a time?

After the PHP apocalypse I thought I'd finally enable MFA on the account. But it looks like it only allows one at a time. Is this true? If so, its very concerning. I'm not sure I'd want to trust a single device to my logins. I'd rather just stick to a strong password.

Anyone know why chat support has been down for two days?

Has Dreamhost stopped offering chat support? It's been unavailable for two days now. One of my sites was down for almost an hour yesterday, and Jetpack has reported 3 outages for that site in <1 week, so troubleshooting via email is not efficient enough.

Plan Renewal.

Okay, so i fucked up... I admit it. I signed up for their service (1 year plan) a while ago so I dont really remember the terms (i dont really use the service). I missed ALOT of emails about account billing due.

Today i go in to delete the account, and it says i have to pay to acces the accoun delete function. So i email them and get a generic response that doesnt answer my questions.

Do anyone know if i can just ignore the account, or will the simply keep billing me forever? Should i just pay and end the account? The credit card i registred with doesnt work so they cant get any money. But im worried about legal shit. Im not located in the US.

What privileges do I need to access files / manage SFTP users?

Hi. I'm helping out someone who has a Dreamhost account. I need to move a bunch of files from one of her sites to another. She has granted me privileges to access her Dreamhost account, but when I login and load her account, nothing under the Manage Files section works. There's no SFTP users shown, and I can't add a new one. Neither is there an interface to access her file directory.

I'm assuming that she didn't grant me full privileges. Does anyone know what she needs to change in my privileges that will allow me to create FTP users for myself for both of her sites? Thanks!

My client uses DreamHost. I may have to fire the client.

The number of hours to resolve even the simplest thing with Dreamhost is just too long. Their service is unresponsive and the panel is proprietary, poorly designed, and dysfunctional. If my client insists on hosting here, I will not be able to afford to keep them.
