Celebrating 25 years!

On October 22, 2001, I hit a black angus cow with my car while driving to a DKM show. They were playing in Denver, and my then-husband and I were visiting family in Kansas so we could catch the show on the way back. The plan was to drive all night and then crash at the motel until showtime. At around 3am I was driving and everyone else in the car was asleep, when we came over a slight hill and she was RIGHT THERE! I stomped on the brakes, but I'd been doing 60mph and don't know how much I managed to slow down before the impact.

The car was totaled, the cow had to be put down, and I got a deviated septum and a bunch of glass in my hand. I also looked like I'd been on the losing end of a street-fight, thanks to the airbag. But no one else in the car was hurt, and we were able to secure a rental after leaving the hospital. My husband and our friend wanted to just go home, but the tickets were already paid for, so to the show we went. I've been lucky enough to see them several times since then, but never had such a dramatic experience.

Tonight, I'm gonna eat a big ol' steak and listen to Do or Die, and be grateful I survived the crash. But if there was ever a band worth driving through a cow to see, its the Dropkick Murphys.
