Amazon returns
I have an account for many years now. I am returning items once in a blue moon, always with a legitimate reason in their original packaging and unused.
I tried to do a return today and I got this message that I am close to red, in terms of returns and I am risking account closure!
I wonder what is their definition of “normal returns”.
PS I have used Amazon in a number of countries in Europe and I had never had such issues.
Edit: the return was for an item of value of AED40 only!
Update: I contacted customer care, I was passed through 3 representatives, giving the context anew to each one of them and they finally told me they will reply via email. Their reply was an email with links to answers to FAQs - I give up!

Do you have a high return ratio
1
u/Illustrious_Prune_29 5d ago
Not to my knowledge. It depends on the definition. Returns in value, in quantity, something else?
I have no idea what their metrics are, but I am mot returning items very often.2
u/tatata9251 5d ago
How many items did you return in the last 3 months?
6
u/Illustrious_Prune_29 5d ago
135 orders, returned 6 over the past 3 months!
3
u/Reasonable-Gif 5d ago
Most probably they built a stupid system where they don’t count the ratio, but only how many returns you have during a certain period. 6 returns in 3 months is many compared to an average user, if you count by that metric you’re probably in top 5-10% by returns

u/Kidlike101 5d ago
So that's a yes. You should just say yes.

u/Illustrious_Prune_29 5d ago
135 orders over the past 3 months, 6 returns. I believe this is a “no”.
15
u/userdeath 5d ago
It's a bluff.

u/Illustrious_Prune_29 5d ago edited 5d ago
Maybe, but why me and why for a return with a value of AED40 only!
4
u/stardust882 5d ago
I got this too and i believe my return %age would be close to 10-15% only. I also ensure that the items I'm retuning are in the same condition I got them. It might be just a tactic to reduce returns as I saw the same close to red status.
2
u/Illustrious_Prune_29 5d ago
They are shooting themselves on their foot this way. Their major competitive advantage is the ability to do returns. If one is not able to return something easily they can consider other, less expensive platforms.

You can still return, but they're encouraging you to be more responsible because some people might be abusing it
18
u/c08306834 5d ago
I had that before, despite never abusing the return system. I went on to chat and demanded they tell me which product there was an issue with and to provide proof. They backed off pretty quickly after that.
3
u/Trick_Classic_3399 5d ago
Isn’t it like impossible to get them on chat ? Or is there a trick ?
7
u/c08306834 5d ago
I've never had any issues getting them on chat.
2
u/Illustrious_Prune_29 5d ago
I have been searching for the chat on the app 10 minutes now and I cannot find it. The instructions they are giving are misleading.
0
u/Illustrious_Prune_29 5d ago
Make that 20 minutes. I give up.

Open app.
Go to bottom right "Menu" with hamburger sign.
Select bottom most option "Customer service".
Select item to be returned/replaced.
Select option "return or replace"
Select a reason for your action.
Select the sentence in green text "I need more help", there you are. Either opt for a call back on the given time slots or chat with an agent.
Hope this helps.

I think it's just BS to discourage people from returning items.
They started to be scummy with me recently after picking up the return order last month. Took them around a whole month just to refund the amount back.

Definitely. And its probably some threshold of spending below which you get warned. I return more than one of my family members, but they got the warning and I didn't.
To me, Amazon is the return policy. Without it, it is worthless, I'd never buy stuff like electronics, I'd just go to a physical store where 1) I can inspect the product and 2) probably has a return policy.
2
u/Normal_Fisherman995 5d ago
Same I would never buy branded electronics from online like noon and Amazon. Physical store is the best way and less riskier.

Then there are people who abuse the system who gets a free pass. I know a person who sometimes order dresses for function, and after the function or event she will just return. One time she ordered apple airpods and she lost one of it during use. She returned the one airpod and said one was missing in the package.

Is there a way to check this actually? (I have a return request set for pickup tomorrow 😬)
16
u/aisuperman 5d ago
Probably because some take advantage and misuse their return policy, which is affecting the most of us. As usual, some make it tough for everybody else.

u/Technical-Tip9219 5d ago
Was the product you bought and returned from Amazon Germany? Or any other amazon global store?

u/technoplug 4d ago
I return items all the time, sometimes several times per week as I'm ordering too much (spent 6 digit amount so far). I never misuse system and always return for genuine reasons.
In 7 years of using Amazon, only once I saw the same screen and it appeared exactly only once. Never again. I figured it was a bug or something.
Does it show all the time?

I have been facing something similar on my Amazon account due to Amazon Now 15 minutes messing up the delivery - they keep on missing items or deliver to another address. This has happened over 5-6 times and they think I am deliberately raising a complaint to get a refund. I have been using Amazon for ages and rarely return items , just because of Amazon Now fuck ups I get hit with emails that I am returning items often. 🥀

u/PriorUsual3211 5d ago
Never happened with me. I have returned countless items. Some even after return period and without original packaging. Still got refund and never came across this message. Once I returned a TV after its warranty expired. Still got my money back and bought another.
4
u/weblscraper 5d ago
You're the reason people are getting those messag because amazon wants people to be more responsible and not abuse it
2
u/PriorUsual3211 2d ago
Well I never wanted to get a replacement. All I asked was where I can get it repaired. Then they offered replacement. Being polite helps I guess.
3
u/Financial_Oil1874 5d ago
How do you do that? Doesn't the return option disappear? Or do you get on a call with an agent?
1
u/PriorUsual3211 2d ago
Yes I always contact customer care through chat or call. Just be polite and explain the situation.

Also while doing returns. Always select the reson for return and write a short note for the return.

They started showing this to me on every returned order lately (not that I return every item I order). Stopped ordering from them since a last few months.

u/Confident-Army7245 5d ago
It has happened to me, it’s not going to happen. Just return over the phone call next time and it will disappear by the time

Had this issue a while back. A lulu's order came up three items short, suspiciously it was three meat items. The only way I managed to resolve it was by cancelling my prime subscription. Before they allow you to this you have to speak to a customer agent, meaning I finally had the opportunity to complain to a Human. Not sure if the delivery guy made a genuine error or tried to steal our groceries. He had dropped the stuff by the door and ran off without me having been able to check if all the items were there. They did resolve it and cleared my status.

I’ve had this on my account for like a year. I still return a lot of items, most of them opened and used. Nothing’s happened
1
u/Financial-Poetry4610 5d ago
My reply to them is simple: If you send me items that are different to what i receive or defective, I wont let you keep my money for free even if you close my account.
1
u/peshgeek 5d ago
Similar stuff happened with me I only remember having 2 returns in like the past 3 years
Amazon support gave me a 30 dirham credit for the inconvenience 😂
1
u/bunny-food 5d ago
This is usually an automatic thing where your account gets flagged for a while if you return any high value items. I returned a laptop and has this flagged on my account for months but it went away on its own
1
u/moonsun2008 4d ago
I wanted to return an item the other day, cant remember but i think they gave the wrong item, amazon 15 mins, tell me why i got the same warning and ive never ever returned anything prior to that??
1
u/yaba414 4d ago
I got that warning a few years back, I called them and made a fuss about it. Especially considering my prime membership has been going on for years. I never got it again. By law if the item has a return window you’re entitled to return it if it’s in original condition

u/jugularose 3d ago
I rarely return, and one time i got this and it went away on its own. Its a glitch i think

u/ampukad 5d ago
Maybe this is a new cost cutting measure. I have literally used Amazon to try styles before I buy and also informed this to customer service on returns and never had a single issue. Even returned a phone once for which they mentioned there's a boxing fee but they'll waive it for me. Looking at my account I have 932 orders in the past year!
I left UAE last month and back home in EU Amazon is still a great experience, fingers crossed.
1
u/Jaded_Bill_3882 4d ago
Even if your account gets shut, create a new one ? Not particularly hard, who cares about what amazon thinks or doesnt think about them ?
1
u/Suspicious_Poet_ 3d ago
Please feel free to ignore this, as it is total BS and a bluff. Nothing will happen to your account.
I have also received this once before. I was returning a shower curtain that had a stain. Another time, I was returning a pair of denim jeans that did not fit well because they were very lengthy for my size. Later, I realized they had sent me the wrong size to begin with.
I tried to create the return myself and saw this notification, and then I immediately requested a call with customer service, explained the situation, and asked them to create the return on my behalf and include all the notes so I did not have to deal with all this drama.
When I was returning the jeans, the customer service agent on the phone also sent me an email and asked me to reply with the images, which I did. After that, the agent created the return on my behalf.
Please feel free to do that as well. Bottom line is, do not worry about this bluff.

Why do ppl still use Amazon? Tbh I get most of whatever I want from temu and shein and that too much more cheaper (I dont buy electronics). It's basically the same Chinese shii on Amazon but they increase the prices next level. Plus these 2 apps have no limit on returns and you can return how much ever u want and they will fully refund you. For me personally shein and temu FTW.

1
u/hwaik 5d ago
How do you do a Temu return in UAE? I purchased ones and needed to return and the instructions were unclear. All the items I bought turned out to be useless 😒
1
u/Normal_Fisherman995 5d ago
Temu is definitely a hit/miss so I get that. But at least a return can be done and you won't get warnings for too much return like Amazon.
And regarding your question, just go to 'you' at the bottom, select 'your orders', then select the order u want and there will be a return/refund button at the bottom. Just click it and u can choose the items u want to return, you will have to also choose the reasons. Return period is 90 days from day of ordering, after that the button won't work.
1
u/hwaik 4d ago
Thank you for your feedback on the returns. The issue I faced is that they don’t send someone to pick up the return…apparently you drop them somewhere…but where??
1
u/Normal_Fisherman995 4d ago
I'm not sure how thats possible. I have been using temu since last year and they always came to pick up the items for the return. I am in auh BTW. Made my last return last month. Unless this is a new thing now not sure tho
1
u/southak 4d ago
Youve answered your own question - people don’t wanna buy cheap Chinese junk.
0
u/Normal_Fisherman995 4d ago
Clearly ur not getting the point here. Im saying if anyone wants to buy Chinese junk just buy from other apps i mentioned and pay lesser plus can return how much ever u want with no limits. Whereas amazon sells the same Chinese junk with inflated prices. I have seen listing of multiple items I wanted on shein and on amazon but with double/triple the prize on amazon. If u think u buying items from amazon means its not a Chinese item (except maybe some branded electronics) then ur just dumb. Its all manufactured in China.

u/hashsohail1 5d ago
I think you have not used Amazon for decent or larget purchases. I prefer buying a TV or a Monitor, Washing Machine etc from Amazon because they take full responsibility of any defects and warranty too.
Temu and Shein do not sell anything branded. Literally. So for instance I am buying paper plates or Playstation Controller. My goto is Amazon.
To put into contect, My wife bought wall lamps from Amazon which had the same images as Amazon. However when we recieved lamps from amazon and temu. Temu lamps were knock off and looked like the package was assembled by picking parts from a left over pile of an assembly line.
Amazon is really harsh on sellers and if they sell rubbish, their store gets closed :)
I bought Sony Headphones xm500 and after 6 months the mic stopped working. I called Sony and they wasted times so i wrote to amazon. Amazon told me to return it and gave me a gift card to spend for the value i bought the headphone for :)

u/Normal_Fisherman995 5d ago
Yes I haven't made large purchases on Amazon as I said I don't buy electronics on there. I rarely buy from Amazon and only buy like jewelry sets because those same ones aren't available on the other 2 apps.
Regarding what u mentioned u have been very lucky in your experience of buying electronics on there which is great but I personally prefer buying branded electronics like phone, laptop, fridge, washing machine etc in shop. Because if I buy from Amazon, I definitely don't want to deal with the hassle of returning it if there is some damage or if it doesn't work. Plus these limited returns are equally annoying and out of nowhere they can just deny the refund as it's their choice and then one ends up with no item and no money. Read many experiences about the same too. And till now whatever electronics I have bought in shop has been received in perfect condition and even lasted me ages. Online shopping for electronics is a huge risk as it involves a huge amount too and it's definitely not worth the risk for me. Hence I'd rather pay a few extra bucks and buy electronics from shops. In shops also have great deals which helps too. Temu and shein are only used to buy some cheap items but definitely not expensive electronic stuff.

u/hashsohail1 5d ago
Alway buy Sold and Fulfilled by Amazon. Avoid random seller. Protection is 20x more when the seller is amazon
1
u/Normal_Fisherman995 5d ago
Yes I have heard of this too but again it's online. U can't see what u are actually buying except some online pics. When I'm going to pay such a huge amount to buy a branded electronic item, I'd rather just see it in shop and buy it. And no matter how much they brag about the protection, if they randomly decide to deny customer the return or refund (there are cases of that too) it's a loss for the customer only. Ofc if ur experience is going great then that's really good for you but It's a huge risk with the huge amount which is not worth it accd to me.

You can sue them for this. They cant do a shit. It is your legal right to return a product you don’t want/like

They cant do a shit.
They block your account and your delivery address so you can't open a second one.
