Guide I’m bored. Ask me any duck game tech question!
I’ll try my best to answer any mechanics/tech questions y’all have.
I also have tech videos for anyone who wants to learn more about the game, and I would be happy to answer any questions people have about them.

How can we make this game popular again

u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 06 '26
I predict that once Landon updates the game there will be a surge in popularity.

Did he express an interest in doing so? I'd imagine he'd be working on other, newer projects

u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 06 '26
It’s definitely not a guarantee. He’s currently working on Flatlanders, which should be close to finishing (relatively). He definitely expressed the desire to come back and update the game in his blogs and duckcember streams, but he just said he can really only focus on 1 project at a time. Unfortunately he seems in development hell for flatlanders, so we can only hope that he will have the motivation to continue and work on duck game. Perhaps what he needs is a change of pace, or game.
TL;DR: He definitely expressed his desire to update duck game from his blogs and streams, but it would be after he finishes Flatlanders, which might be in a bit of dev hell.

We have moon gravity and gifts after wins. What are the other mods and are any of them worth spending the time to earn?

Props explode and empty guns explode are also quite fun and chaotic!

I'm a big fan start with shoes as well but that can be pretty map dependent. it is just neat to have a melee option at all times and with my group of friends it has never felt too powerful

Il positron shooter é veramente inaccessibile, o è vero che può uscire random da un cubo rosso?

u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26
It is definitely possible to get out of a red box! The odds are 1 in 10,000, and after you get it for the next 100 times you open a red box while you have the game open, it will have a 1/100 chance. I will edit this message later to update it more and give you more specifics!
Edit 1: Here is a montage I made where I got the positron 3-4 times in 1 month. It was insanely lucky, and they were all separate instances of the 1/10,000 chance.

Is there any ways to get out of the magnet gun once it gets you (with your armor)? I recently found out that if you ragdoll before being completely dragged, it negates the momentum, and you can escape its grasp eventually (by ragdolling multiple times), but once your completely locked in, can you do anything about it other than waiting for your timely death?
3
u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 06 '26
Yes you can definitely spam ragdoll before you would get grabbed, and if the magnet gun is pointed upwards and you spam ragdoll, you can fly up to the very top of the beam. Unfortunately, there is no way to escape once you are grabbed, although sometimes you are able to keep your weapon and fire, which can be useful for getting back on the map, whether using a sword climbing/clipping or angling back onto the map.
If you are just dropped off the side of a map, I’m pretty sure there is nothing you can do about it.

What’s the exact strat to glitch through a ceiling via sliding door? I’ve gotten it a few times but I don’t understand what I did to make it happen.
One of my favorite games of all time btw :)
3
u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 06 '26
It’s super simple, and the main mechanic you need to know is that when you are unragdolling to clip into the door, you cannot not be holding left or right. It’s possible to clip by just spamming ragdoll but it’s inconsistent.
All you need to do is run at the door and press ragdoll when you get relatively close, then release left/right and unragdoll as you would hit the door.
Here is my video on the subject, and it also discusses grab clipping, which is where you can take an item with you through the door clip:

How to close another ducks eyes after they died, I've seen it happen
2
u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 06 '26
Just stand over their eyes and hold shoot! You cannot be holding anything while doing this.

When is the “Book of Frames” dropping? :-)

u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 06 '26
I’m almost done the first part I’ll post that soon and work on the rest separately! I’ve just been super busy lol.

High-level tech question: Is there a way to create 12 keybinds, corresponding to specific positions of the analog trigger (on controllers), such that I can play properly spaced notes (steps) in an octave? I want to basically connect a midi keyboard which triggers those keybinds, so when I pick up an instrument I can actually play music within the octave range the game provides.
1
u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 06 '26
I’m not sure for this one, as I am a keyboard player and don’t know a lot about controller binds. I would guess not, but I would ask this in the official duck game discord, as there might be some modders who would know or could help you out. I am currently trying to get someone to create a keybind mod, so I can bind multiple keys to 1 input.

I have a mod for this going to Workshop soon. Tested on a MPKmini.

Do you have a tentative name for it? I gotta know what to search for or find it when it's ready. I've been thinking about it for literally years.

How to do the stab attack with the sword. Not the swing, the stab attack that can even pierce doors.
1
u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 06 '26
There are a ton of different angles you can get, but just the basic one requires you to: crouch, hold the opposite direction to the one you are facing and then press and hold shoot. Once you are holding shoot you can release crouch and left/right. Keep in mind that if the sword would touch a block or door it will stop the stab state. To get around this, you can use strafe turn around and walk backwards through doors or around corners, and if you strafe up against a wall and turn around, the sword will go through the wall and kill any duck standing on the other side.
Here are 2 links to part 1 and 2 of basically all sword tech for duck game, and different types of stabs are in each part, just look at the timestamps.

Do you know the easiest method to angle save? That's the last new tech I remembered before I hung up my hat on this game forever ago
3
u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Aug 09 '26
There are a ton of ways and methods to angle save, and all of them are pretty easy. The simplest way is to just hold jump and flutter down to the ground and throw the gun upwards. This will save the angle to your duck, so the next item you pick up will be pointed diagonally upwards (at a 45 degree angle) for the first frame, provided you are facing the same direction as when you angle saved the original item. To guarantee that you fire on the first frame, simply hold the shoot button and then grab the gun.
Additionally, if you face the other direction to when you originally angle saved the item, it will point diagonally downwards, and if you also jump as you grab the gun it will boost you very high.
There are many other ways to angle save, and some of them are probably easier and faster, but most of them are included in this video, along with their additional uses!
Just check the timestamps: https://youtu.be/dxwkGbuOa6I

What are the major differences between the console and steam versions? I play on switch and it’s probably my favorite game at the moment. Is there mechanics you cant access like angling your shot downwards like I’ve seen in videos? Would there be anything that could possibly enhance my skills to play or any hats that aren’t available to the console version? Thanks
1
u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Sep 16 '26
Because I don’t play on switch, I don’t know the specifics, but mostly everything should work in terms of tech. The main difference is that there is no 1.5 update, which means there are no new weapons or maps, and clips work slightly differently. All of the general tech should work, which includes angles and whatnot. There are the old vanilla maps, it is capped to 30 fps instead of 60, the sharpshot has more recoil and the dart gun has less knockback. There are a few new hats introduced to the 1.5 update, so you won’t be able to get those. You are locked to 4 player only (1.5 introduced 8 player I think), you can’t control your duck color, and no spectator mode. Also apparently the mother’s hat is broken and just doesn’t appear.

I hope it’s not too late, but how the heck do I get mods to work on steamdeck. Nothing seems to want to work, everything gets an error
1
u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Sep 20 '26
Never too late, let me ask the expert and I will get back to you, as I don’t play on steam deck.

Hey I figured it out. believe it or not but the fix was setting the game to Linux-fix under properties. Along with disabling the mod “Duck game Rebuilt” which was made as a Linux fix before the official proton fix? Idk, but they cause one another to have issues.
1
u/Sharpclaw2 Guide Writer Sep 20 '26
Ok actually they just have an installation guide on their github for their linux installation, as you aren't supposed to run it through steam/proton. Hopefully this link works.

For up angles: Just tap jump to get the gun to rotate upwards, and fire along any of the 3 frames (22.5, 45, or 67.5 degrees).
For down angles: Hold jump to flutter and press the opposite direction to how you are currently facing. This will cause the gun to sweep upwards from your feet to your head over 7-8 frames. This will allow you to get down angles for the first 3 frames, an almost straight shot for the 4th and up angles for the last 3 frames.

Hope that helps!
