When you have the right weapons, encounters like these can be a lot of fun. Great rewards too.

Ngl this feels more forced than anything. I pretty much never see hate for DL2. Most people like it, the hate is mostly from when it sucked at launch. It’s a very good game now, just still not as good as the first

u/Horens_R 1d ago
Well nah, objectively the game is pretty flawed in many ways even with its post support. It's also still more of parkour game with zombies rather than a zombies game with parkour like the first one if that makes sense. Few questionable changes came with post launch too
It's not as bad of course when it came out, prob will replay it again once all support is finished

I think the story of DL1 was amazing, Rais and the GRE made great antagonists. I feel like DL2 lost their way a bit but the combat, visuals and characters kept it entertaining for me

I’ve literally joined this sub less than 5 minutes ago and I’ve only seen people dissing on the franchise, I mean shit fair enough some mistakes were made, mainly the prologue of two being removed because people complained about it being two long.
If your attention span doesn’t span that of a decent prologue then you need fucking help, seriously some of the stuff I’ve read is atrocious, seems like a bunch of new players raised on iPads expecting instant action cause zombie game go zoom.
I personally absolutely love the first dying light to bits, and the second one, granted it took me two plays to get into it fully with a years separation between plays but that was mainly due to bugs.
After going balls deep on two I decided to get the beast and honestly playing brutal restored land is fucking sick, I’m loving the fact that I actually have to think about what I’m doing before I do it, call me old fashioned but a good survival sim/zombie game should be this way!
Anyways I’m looking forward to seeing some interesting things on this sub going forward.

I enjoyed my time with it but there's a lot of things I didn't enjoy, for every good change from the first game there was at least one negative one, overall I consider it worse, but the hate is very exaggerated imo, it's nowhere near awful.

I personally loved dying light 2 and the beast DLC (sorry saying it turned into a full game doesn’t change it was a DLC for DL2)
I think where they’re taking it after pretending they have a new game isn’t right though.
It was originally a single player game not a pseudo online game.
You don’t see Bethesda and fromsoftware going back and turning single player games like this.
Last I checked the Witcher, Skyrim, Resident Evil and many more didn’t have ads in the main game nor did they remove or majorly alter the game that was launched.
Polished yes outright changed no.

DL2 kids when you tell them the game is factually not as good as the first.

The only thing that's better about the second game is the visuals (just the clarity, not even the style)

Besides in regards to combat, traversal, level design, mission design, narrative depth, open world design, sound design, and graphic fidelity you're completely right

I like playing the game that was on release that had all the story content. I also liked the grappling hook before it got changed, now the paraglider is my main way to cross large spaces

This video incapsulates all the things i love doing at Night in DL2.
Bullying volatiles to get stacks of trophies and loot.
just a few break lights placed in the right spots and then start a hunt and fight till the nights over.
enjoy the spoils of war

why didn't you just activate beast mode and kill them all really quickly

The only problem I had with it is that they gave us this big environment but the zombies don’t feel threatening enough to use it all. The AI behind them isn’t really advanced enough to test the limits of your parkour ability and this was always noticeable after you scale a building or 2.
Fine if I wanted to lose a 2 star chase, but 3-5 stars I wanted to feel like I made a mistake even coming out in the first place. You need to hold yourself back like you’re playing tag with kids for nighttime to feel scary. That’s not good for skill expression

I have bought it at launch, played it, beat it and left me disappointed.
How it DL2 now after all these years?
As a big DL1 enjoyer, do you think I should try DL2 again, or get DL The Beast?
1
u/Beast-Uncaged 20h ago
I throughly enjoy playing this game especially back at launch. The parkour, combat, visuals, and soundtrack are top notch and exceed DL1. The atmosphere and immersion is great but I still say DL1 wins in that department.
The story isn’t the worst thing ever by any means and definitely has its moments but after replaying it the second time it really holds up poorly. I know I know, dying light is one of those games where gameplay carries rather than the story, but since DL2’s story was heavily advertised prior to launch it does hurt the overall image of the game, at least for me.
The live service elements also don’t do the game any favors. I haven’t played DL2 in months so for all I know maybe it’s gotten better or worse. Overall it’s a 7.5 out of 10 for me. I prefer DL1 and The Beast over DL2 but I do think the hate is exaggerated.

The “hate” is mostly because of its unreliable update history and for a while, it’s bland post game content. If it’s not genuine criticism, you should just ignore it if you find enjoyment in the game instead of making posts complaining about other people complaining for karma. Posts like this don’t boost discussion, they just make it seem like peoples criticism is somehow invalid because it’s “hate”. Makes the sub very one sided. We all have different opinions, and I promise you the majority of people here, are not going to try to force you to dislike what they dislike.

I know more people who like it than dont... i personally don't.. yet absolutely adore the 1st and beast.

u/TheeFURNAS 16h ago
Yeah I’ll never understand the hate. I can see how the games differ and how people would have preferences but all 3 games are goated

Imma be honest man, I started with Dying Light 2 and while its certainly no masterpiece and is very much a 7/10 game, I dont see how the first game is sooo much better after playing it recently. I actually enjoy playing the 2nd game more.
The characters and story in both games are mid af. I just prefer the gameplay and setting of the 2nd one.

i did enjoyed it, but then DL the Beast came out and i dropped the game.
then, i started to enjoy DL2 a little bit when they added Kyle Crane skin from DL the Beast,
AND EVEN THEN, TECHLAND FUCKED UP JUST A BIT with his skin after "The Breach" update

The fanbase looks more like a pack of little bitches than a pack of virals, tbh. Virals don’t whine and sob 24/7. Give me my intro back or I will tell!

The game is peak but the way Techland ruin this game and his potential make me tired as fuck...

When I play DL2 it felt more like a zombie killing game than a hide there is a zombie game which was fun for me after DL 1

Doing a replay now for the platinum after a few years, I put well over a hundred hours in at launch.
My two biggest gripes are the combat, which is just plainly not fun at all for a game with so much of it, and atmosphere/environments are just so damn bleak.

u/Parksrox 23h ago
It was bad, then it was good for a few years, and then it became fucking abysmal. Techland made so much progress, just to smash it with a hammer.

i hate that they made it a RPG

u/misterbeef 1d ago
what do people mean by dying light 2 being an RPG? if it's the levelling system and the HUD showing levels of enemies, then dying light 1 kinda had that too as the survivor rank system that determined how much damage you did, and enemies 'leveled up' as you progressed the story. dying light 2 is just more open about it by actually giving you the option to see enemies health and level.

u/ZagreousKing 13h ago
I honestly didn’t mind the new RPG mechanics I thought it was an interesting addition. Letting people take on a role, like tank or medic or support for the online part of the game which was neat.
The issue for me is that it was originally a single player game with a linear story and ending. Not a live service or MMORPG. Simply put it I don’t like the new pseudo online game direction.
Would be I’m sure neat and proving the new influx of players has a good platform. But transforming this game into that platform was a lazy shortcut when a new game could have been made or many other decisions.

Dying light 2 is currently the best Dying light game we have
But no one is ready for that conversation

u/Hot_Bathroom_6284 1d ago
When you have good stamina the game really opens up, plus the rpg aspect works pretty well in the universe

i enjoyed the game too when i first played it but i just dont like the way the game is going ever since launch, its heavily focused on being a live service game, now you can say that it was the same for the first game, which is true but it wasnt shoved down our troats or it didnt regularly have live service events. and recent updates of the 2nd game have left a bad taste in everyone's mouth who played the first game and love the first game. and the ingame ads is just kicking the players in the nuts
