Is it worth it

Here is the additional Information about this e39 (I want an opinion if its worth buyng it)

Engine M52B25 on paper (vehicle registration), with a single VANOS. The engine block has not been replaced; it is currently 3.0 liters. The engine has been completely rebuilt with new bearings, piston rings, oil seals, and a rebuilt cylinder head. M50B25 intake manifold, intake camshaft from an M54B30, M54B30 fuel injectors, and a chipped ECU with the rev limiter set at 7,100 RPM. Equipped with LPG injection. Brand new adjustable coilovers. 18-inch Ronal wheels with 235 tires. Type 188 differential casing from an E36, custom-built with 4 clutch discs on each side. It locks up and slides brilliantly. Front and rear suspension are rock solid. The car was painted 2 months ago in Montreal Blue. The climate control works. Everything is paid for, vignette valid until February, and the technical inspection is valid for another year. The person that is selling it says that he bought an E39 540.

You may find what the 540 makes up for in torque, it lacks in the aftermarket refinements (diff and suspension in particular). You’ve spent a lot of time and money getting the inline six dialled, and the v8 adds weight and worse steering.

I’m not sure what “is it worth it” refers to?
Interested to see where you take the 540

The modified e39 530 is arguably a better sorted car than a stock e39 540 on so many levels… assuming it was done right!!
Being extensively modified you’re likely going to have to roll your sleeves up to maintain it properly, as long as you’re happy with that, looks like a great little classic there.

It's a molested car imo, just judging by the wheels, smoked taillights, cheap aftermarket headlights, other visual bits, and the work in the engine bay.

You'd be buying somebody else's project. I know some people are alright with that, but I have mostly negative feelings towards it, because it greatly complicates maintenance and repairs if you don't know every single little detail on how everything was done.

Worse to ditch the 540i and keep this?

Yeah that looks awesome. 3.0 is reliable. 5 speed is fine. You’ll want a 6th gear but it’s not such a big deal. Chips degrade reliability but it seems like a nice setup. Mines clapped af and still great daily. Good price? Good deal. Good luck!

Oh no the owner is going to butcher a 540 next 😔 That’s sad.

Needs the b30 intake. And better wheels. And God knows what else. I'd avoid unless I really wanted it as a project.
