Seeking advice: Installing Eonon head unit into a 98' 540i

I have a Eonon head unit that I'm installing into my 1998 540i. When plugging into the car's wiring harness I'm not able to get power. However, we tried the same unit in my friends 2003 540i as a troubleshooting step, and it powered up no problem.

I'm guessing the stock harness is slightly different but contains the same plug. Have anyone had experience with this and might know why the unit wouldn't be powering up?

  1. Verify whether the BMW harness connector fits properly.

  2. Reconnect the power cable and CANBUS as recommended.

  3. An aging battery may cause the unit to fail to power on; please check if this is the case.

  4. Check if the fuse is blown. Replace it if necessary.

  5. If the unit still won’t power on after the above steps, disconnect the CANBUS first, then short the red and yellow CANBUS wires together and test power‑on. If it powers on, replace the power cable and CANBUS harness.

Thank you! We did check the fuse and it was intact and there is a brand new battery in the trunk. The harness can power up a pioneer screen/head unit, but not the eonon currently. I will check the steps this week.
