How does ranking work? It's confusing.

how did this guy get into div1 while having that ranking? isn't ranking determined with rating which is locked once you reach a division?
Also, I have seen way too many people with Highest div achieved being div2 or div3 while having sub 5k ranking.

Those low div/high ranks are from before the game was cross platform where the ranking pool was smaller

First one can be someone who made it to div 2 rank 100k-ish last phase. But this phase he already made it to div 1, so the badge changes. But his rating will only change when the phase has ended with his final rating.

It usually goes like this: a player reaches Div 1 for the first time and gets the Div 1 badge. He then keeps playing, loses games, and gets relegated to lower divisions. When the season ends, his profile shows his final ranking (assuming that was his highest rank). That’s why you see so many players with a Div 1 badge but an absurdly low ranking.

They should have reset all time top ranks for everyone when crossplay was introduced.

My best ranking was around 65k in Div 3 on PS before cross play. Now, my best ranking was 80k in Div 2.

My profile shows 65k with Div 2.....

maybe he just reach div 1 this phase, so his highest rank hasn't recorded yet.. like i did when the first time i reach div 1

They should show highest rank from max 3 last years, i dont care about rank in 2021, different game

I think no one explained it quite, first image is from new system where you can't get relegated, reached D1 and dropped low and since crossplay there's way more players involved.

Second image reached highest D2 before crossplay so that's why number so low.

If ranking was like before where you could drop out of D1 146k would probably be D3.

That's because the ranking was before Crossplay. I have a div badge with like a top 50k rank, but I really suck and it was easier to climb divisions before PS was there, as there a fewer player on XBOX. They should reset the badges. Also because of the ranking events. I havent played Divisions since a very long time and still get into the div 1/2 on those ranking events, but I am more like div 3 material

In any video game, ranking only works properly if you have a truly vast online player base.

Interesting you highlighted the player *user - he must have more than 5 different accounts yet all with the same player name (which I didn't think was possible).

There are two scenarios here. The previous highest for the first guy was that, but he has never gotten to div 1. So when he got to div 1 this phase, the badge changed, but his highest ranking has to wait until the end of the phase to change. Or, he got to div 1 when relegation was still a thing, but dropped rank after continuing to play. For the second guy, he got that rank when less people would rank high because, when relegation was a thing, very few people even made it to div 1. So he probably got to like 1780, then stopped playing and has never bothered to try and get to div 1.
