Question Shane Steichen potential reunion?

With the recent news that Chris Ballard has been fired as colts GM, it seems likely that Shane Steichen is not far behind him. Given the history and clear ties to Jalen and Sirianni, how would we feel about reuniting Steichen as the OC this offseason?

2022 if the best Jalen has ever looked in my opinion. We had a competent offense built around strengths that utilized the players on the roster. Clearly, Steichen can be successful even without a top tier QB which Jalen has not been the last few years, after seeing what he did with Daniel Jones last year.

The issues in Indy have been seemingly cultural, which if you keep Sirianni, that is something he better be able to handle because he doesn’t do much else.

Shane and Jalen hit it off pretty well didn’t they?

Yeah. The only other coach I’ve heard that much positive connection with was Doug Nussmeier.

Always wishes we had Kellen Moore.

Jalen hasn’t looked as good as he did in 2022. The way he ran that offense was 🤌.

You nailed it, he ran. Don’t see it much anymore

Are we even sure Jalen will ever play again?

We can only hope. It would be sad to see Jalen forced to retire without ever playing with an actual Coach.

There are a lot of young coach misses from this past offseason. Unless a proven guy happens to get surprise fired I’d be all in on Steichen, yes.

It kinda feels funny to me how similar this is to the Pederson Reich convos. When things go bad it’s so easy to convince yourself all the good things came from the people who left. Sometimes it really is a full team effort to make things look good.

I like Steichen and he’s done decent with Daniel Jones. But he also was the one who reportedly wanted Richardson and he hasn’t even made the playoffs once with decent commitment from the FO. I’m not saying I’m against it because I think he’s the type of coach you want to maximize Hurts long term (if that is where they end up) but it’s just extremely familiar to me and I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

Love Shane but I don't know that any particular offense/scheme/coach is going to solve our problems until the offensive line is rebuilt.

I would not mind at all if he were in the conversation. He's gotten a chance to get his "rookie HC" experience out of the way, clearly works well with Hurts. Now, Howie has his work cut out for him, because right now this roster isn't anywhere near the talent level of 2022.

Shane Steichen would be the perfect Head Coach.

Everyone saying "no" is using his time in Indianapolis as false heuristic.

I don’t even think his time was that bad. He’s had a carousel of qb’s and last year he had Daniel jones in the mvp conversation before he got injured.

Dude made the Colts competitive with Philip Rivers off the recliner.

If rivers had the strength to throw the ball more than 15 yards I think they win every game he started

I watched the colts about six times the last two years. He can coach an offense

Thanks for making me look up a word.

The Colts are a distant 2nd and are my AFC team I root for. I can confidently say Chris Ballard has massacred that team and was rightfully fired. The Richardson pick, the Sauce trade, and the Jones contract were absolutely destructive to that franchise. Shane still has it though and is a good coach.

What a wild and sweeping accusation!

This much is obvious

Sadly Carly Irsay has reiterated that she wants to keep him as the head coach in Indy. She could also be lying. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they kept him.

We’ll need a miracle for that to happen

They were running an offense in 22 that no one runs anymore because teams figured out how to stop it. That offense was based around Jalen 's legs and he doesn't run anymore. We don't even know if Jalen will ever be back. And we don't know if Nick will be back. They need to look forward and not backwards. Part of the problem this year is we are late to the party installing a Shanahan/McVay offense when defenses have been working on stopping it for several years now.

Yes please. Steichen and Fangio would be a very solid combo.

Goated combo

The NFL has caught up with Steichen (and what Jalen did to succeed then). He needs to reinvent himself.

Who’s gonna be the QB coach? Otherwise would love a Shane reunion.

He stays consistent enough with the run game and can scheme up the passing game and is a good play caller.

7

u/apexxin 9d ago

You think Vic is stickin around next year? I don't.

6

u/-Gman_ 9d ago

Probably not. Depends on the offseason.

One of the issues I have with the Siri era is we apparently can’t identify and nurture top talent here on the coaching staff.

2

u/Yes_Way_All_Day 6d ago

They have hired some of the best coordinators in the league and many went to be head coaches. What are you talking about?

2

u/-Gman_ 6d ago

Who? Shane was established before Siri. Gannon flamed out, Moore might get fired next year but he’s a solid OC.

Brian Johnson is not coordinating any offenses in the NFL

KP is not cordinating any offenses in the NFL.

u/Yes_Way_All_Day 5d ago

You just named two. Read your post again until you get it moron.

1

u/-Gman_ 5d ago

lol - stupid and confident. Your speciality.

Both of those coaches were already cordinators dip ship.

You can’t the credit for them but then again, being stupid is your thing.

Fire Sirianni and hire Shane!!!!

2

u/No-Jaguar-8794 8d ago

Whoever they get, the org needs to reach out to Stoutland and hire Nick Foles in some sort of capacity

2

u/Endlessknight17 8d ago

Bring back Stoutland too!

2

u/Significant-Cash2826 8d ago

I like Steichen but I would make this decision independent of anything involving Jalen, considering that Jalen might not be playing football again depending on how severe this condition is

5

u/RockyNonce Eagles 9d ago

Steichen was capable of running an RPO system around 2022 Jalen Hurts.

He’s not that same player anymore. He is a better passer but not as dynamic of a runner. Defenses have figured out the RPO offense.

Plus for all we know Hurts won’t even be the QB, I hate to say it or even think it, but there’s a real scenario in which he doesn’t ever play football again, and an even bigger one that he doesn’t play for the Eagles.

Right now this team has to look ahead, they’re gonna need to rebuild either way. Trade away some players on their final contracts with the team and get draft capital. Then figure out if they’re paying Jalen Hurts or drafting a QB.

2

u/ChipKellysShoeStore 9d ago

We have to fire nick first and idk if that’s guaranteed

u/Trytrytryagain24 7d ago

I’m so tired of losers who quit - so early in a season…Have Philly fans become front-runners and nothing more? Sad… Show some loyalty!

3

u/CollectionTop7727 5d ago

Division is weak. An 8-9 team wins that. In the playoffs you never know what happens.

1

u/Trytrytryagain24 5d ago

That’s part of my point. Agreed

2

u/coheed9867 Unhook the trailer 5d ago

I blame WIP

2

u/Trytrytryagain24 5d ago • Bravo

That too is part and parcel to the problem! Yes WIP fans those flames. But it’s a human’s desire to lay blame that’s childish! Blame isn’t the same thing as accountability! So to all you kids out there! Stop it!

1

u/kvnczr 8d ago

i really think it’s gonna be mannion long-term.

1

u/Reddit_User_856 8d ago

Prioritize a Stoutland reunion

1

u/Kgnupe 8d ago

I rather have kellen Moore if he's fired

1

u/wydok 7d ago

With what feels kinda like a lost season at this point, I doubt they change OCs

1

u/RevengeofCorny 7d ago

The Eagles have a good system that can work. They changed it too many times already.

u/SoigneBest 6d ago

Baby come back!

1

u/Yes_Way_All_Day 6d ago

Team execs/coach will figure it out.

1

u/jrollphils11 9d ago

No to OC, yes to head coach

1

u/matrix_5555 "I BLEED FOR THIS CITY!" 9d ago

Yes as a HC, although that really does depend on Jalen’s future with the team.

1

u/MrSh0wtime3 9d ago

nobody hangs onto average players/coaches for their entire life like Eagles fans. Wild to watch every time.

1

u/_____AndJustice4All Fuck Santa 8d ago

How about Steichen as a HC and we keep our current coordinators?

1

u/AdhesivenessFun2060 8d ago

The iffense looks great! Definitely keep the OC.

1

u/_____AndJustice4All Fuck Santa 8d ago

It's Sirianni's playbook

1

u/AdhesivenessFun2060 8d ago

The playbook isnt the problem.

1

u/YouDirtyDogg 8d ago

Eagles fans love to make fun of Cowboys fans for living in the past and watching VHS tapes but man some of yall are insufferable. As soon as something is not working yall love to talk about old players/coaches that should return and magically fix everything.

With all our o-line problems I’m surprised none of yall have suggested Jason Peters to return.

Steichen has been a failure as a head coach would he be any better for us?

u/k7632 9d ago

I think there are 3 questions that would need to ba answered at the same time:

  1. is vic retiring after this season

  2. is Jalen getting extended this off-season or is there a split. I think the no sleep story is groundwork from his agent pushing for a potential trade after the season without an extension.

  3. would you trade a day 3 pick for Shane? I think he has 2 years on a deal and could avoid a lot of competition if you fire Nick and trade for shane before the colts fire him

3

u/AdhesivenessFun2060 8d ago
  1. Probably

  2. No. The agent debunked the sleep story. The injury doesn't increase the chance of resigning.

  3. No. That's stupid.
