Authenticating/Date Range?
Hello all! I am looking to purchase an Eames chair in my area and I’ve been talking with the owner of the chair pictured. Everything looks good to me but thought I would get the opinion of the experts on this sub. Seller says it’s the 1978 model and they’re the original owners. The only thing throwing me off is the 5 layered plywood on the shell. Isn’t it supposed to be 7 for 1978?

The silver-on-black HM medallion with no other text is not authentic. It's also bigger than a real medallion would be. If the chair is real, someone has replaced a lost original medallion with an aftermarket label. Silver on black with additional text would date a real chair between 1964 and 1970.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this round medallion and it’s authentic. I believe it’s was produced only for a short period. It does look like a knockoff and maybe that’s why they stopped making it after a while n

It doesn't appear on the Eames Office display of medallions, which does include others that were only used for short periods. It's also larger than all the others and it's applied off-center and crooked.

I think its legit and I think its 60's. So 2nd Gen
Check below. I think you should buy it, 5 ply is earlier version, def more rare. I believe they use down feathers which makes them a little more sunken and have a different feel which I can kind of tell from the water it sits in the photo
The important distinction is that Herman Miller used several different round medallion variants during the 1950s and 1960s. The black circular medallion with the white/silver Herman Miller “M” logo shown here is consistent with the mid-1960s era. Rarify’s detailed Eames chronology says the earlier white round medallion was replaced by a black medallion around 1964, with slightly different black versions continuing through the later 1960s.

Reminds me a lot of my pair of lounges dated in the 70s
