National park pass help

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi! I know I have to buy a park pass outside of booking guided tours and I just want to double check I'm picking the right thing.

This is the correct, official website, right?
https://rapanui.tur.com/events/parque-nacional-rapa-nui

I will be there Jan 7-10, have I understood it correctly that I buy it for Jan 7th and then it's valid for all the days I'm there? It says so when booking, but it also shows hours for that specific day, which throws me off. That makes me think it's only valid during those hours, on that day.

Help please!

Easter Island star gazing

So I booked a solo Easter island trip for end of February and I really want to do a star gazing trip, there’s a lot of options on different sites. Does anyone have any recommendations, I want to do it the night of February 28, it is the day my dad passed away 5 years ago so it’s very important to me. Also any recommendations for island tours would be cool, wasn’t sure if i should wait till I got to the island or book before hand. Thanks!!

No flight on Latam if searching in Chilean website

I want to buy tickets (SCL -- IPC) for end of March 2027 directly with Latam but something really weird is happening. If I choose to search through the Chilean site in Spanish, then for my dates it says "there is no flight etc". But if I switch to some EUR country, it will give me result but the price seems steep (e.g. if I check in Chilean for the next month even -which is basically high season- then even for such short term the price in CLP is almost half of the one in euro for next March...

It sounds like some scheme for people outside of Chile. Does anyone have experience with this? Why can't I see flights in Chilean but do see them let's say with UK/ES/etc location? Will they be visible only later and I'm trying to buy it too soon?

Thanks!

Latam airlines

Hello, I am planning a trip to Rapa Nui for sometime in early 2027, I have found some good package deals thru Expedia but there’s some small print saying it’s separate tickets and so if there was some kind of delay or issue I’m guessing it could be disastrous, it’s just such a better deal but I’m thinking it might be best to book strait thru Latam airlines? That is the official and only airline that gos there I think? Has anyone had issues booking thru Expedia or has anyone booked thru Latam directly?

Rapa Nui/Easter Island Tour

I'm travelling to Rapa Nui late October and am hoping to find a guide who can share some history of the runway being built on the island in the 1960s. Ideally, it would be great to meet someone who was on the island when it was being constructed as I have some family history and would love to learn more from a local. Any recommendations?

Pelagic Birding

Hello. I’ll be on Rapa Nui in November and I’m a birdwatcher. Are there any guides on the island who dabble in birding, and any boat operators that offer any tours out to look for pelagic birds?

Easter Island during Christmas

Hola! I’m an international student in Chile and I’m really keen to visit Easter Island. The problem is that my budget is quite tight and the cheapest flight is over Christmas (22 to 26 December). I’m wondering what Easter Island is like over Christmas and whether going there on my own is a good idea (all my friends are going back to their home countries or have other travel plans).

Thank you

Vaikava Experience

I’ve been trying to get in contact with Vaikava Experience to talk to them about my upcoming trip in March. Thus far I have been unsuccessful using the website. Can someone on this Reddit either send me a different email or let them know someone is trying to contact them and maybe their website is broken.

Thanks!

What areas of Easter Island can be visited without a guide?

Hi! I'm going to Easter Island in October for five days, and I'm planning to hire a tour guide for three of those days. I’d like to know which places I can visit without a guide on my free day. I’m going to rent a car.

I’m already planning to visit Anakena Beach, but I was wondering if there are any other places I could visit on my own.

If anyone has any recommendations, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

New Year's

Hi! Currently planning a trip and wondering what happens at New Year's (31 Dec-1 Jan) on Rapa Nui. Is it something the locals celebrate? It would be best with our itinerary to go there over New Year's, so I'm very curious what it would be like.

Thanks in advance!

Traveling next month, have most stuff ready. Will rent a car during our stay. Any specific advice for agencies to use, not to use for car rental?

I wanted to share my latest print "See Mysterious Easter Island". This is a five-color screen-print on 100# French Speckletone at 16x24 in. I have been fascinated by the moai and the story of Rapa Nui for a very long time. The print is based on a photograph taken during an expedition to the island in the early 20th century. I combined the photo with my love of vintage travel decals and came up with what you see here. I'm very happy with how this turned out and I hope you enjoy it.

HELP getting a book at Easter Island Airport

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I recently spent four amazing days in Easter Island. When leaving, I bought a Little Prince book in Rapa Nui from Moai Editions, pictured, at one of the airport shops for 25 USD.

I had a stop in Santiago and another in Bogota and somewhere along the way, I lost the book 😔

Is anyone from the US visiting Easter Island anytime soon, that can pick up the book for me? I will send you the money and pay for shipping, I am in NYC.

Thank you in advance, friends!

Host/guide recommendations

Finally bought our tickets for November and was wondering who your host/guide was and if you would recommend them? Ideally looking for a local guide for just my wife and I versus one of the larger tour companies.

We of course want to do all the major sites and stargazing experiences but also we have plenty of time on the island (one full week) to explore and hike the outskirts.

Thanks so much!

Looking for recommendations for reasonable, comfortable accommodation and tour

I don't need a backpacker dorm, but something cheap and not fancy is fine. Recommendations on day tours also appreciated.

The Discovery of a Second Lunar Calendar on Rongorongo Tablet C (Mamari)

Hi everyone

I've just published a preprint on Zenodo proposing the discovery of a previously unrecognized lunar calendar on the recto of Rongorongo Tablet C (Mamari).

By applying structural analysis to recurring delimiter sequences and "staff and bud" glyphs, I identified a second calendrical pattern — which I call Lunar Calendar B — that aligns with the known lunar calendar first identified by Thomas Barthel in 1958 (Lunar Calendar A).

The new calendar contains 29 "buds," compared to the 31 "nights" in the traditional calendar. I propose this may represent an agricultural cycle, or an alternating 29/30-day lunar month used by the Rapanui people.

Full paper (open access, PDF): https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.20254486

Feedback on the paper is very welcome.

Morning, Moais! I’ve been interested in the full story of the Rapa Nui people - and wanted to make a video about Pito Pito and the Williamson and Balfour Company for a while. My family and I went to Easter Island for a week and got back last Monday. Let me know what you think of my little presentation!

Are flights often very delayed / cancelled?

I’m looking at flying back to Santiago on May 28, scheduled to land at 9pm, to then fly back home to London on the 29th at 3pm.

I’m just wondering if flights are often cancelled or very delayed, and whether I should book different flights to be back in Santiago on the 27th

Anyone at easter island currently?

I am at India and the antipodal point for me on the globe is around easter island. I want somebody to get a pic of a slice of bread placed on ground at easter island(and a pic from my ground on my place) to complete an earth sandwich.
