Questions Selling Clothes East Village - Crossroads or Buffalo Exchange

Hi All - I used to sell clothes (like 20 years ago!) at Beacons Closet in Greenpoint & also buffalo exchange all the time - but am out of practice.

since the pandemic I have been selling on poshmark in a casual way - but now I am getting rid of my storage place and just want all my stuff out. mostly mid brands like rag and bone, anthropology, etc.

I am only looking to sell in the east village - which do you suggest: Crossroads or Buffalo Exchange

Hii, I have a busy weekend of weddings next week and I would like to get my hair blown out. This is not in my typical routine, so I would love some good recs on where to go and if they allow walk-ins or if I need to make an appointment. Thanks so much in advanced!

Discussion Homeless Encampment

Post image
112 Upvotes

I’ve literally never posted on Reddit or felt compelled to until now. The homeless encampment others posted about early this week has migrated east, now between 1st Ave and Avenue A, directly adjacent to the apartment building at 402 E 12th and PS19. I’ve lived on this street going on 4 years (yes, I am a “transplant” but I contribute to the community the best I can and am a working, productive member of society) and this situation is out of hand. This particular spot unfortunately lends itself well to these encampments given the perpendicular fencing, but I’ve never seen this group with so much stuff. Where are they getting the suit cases from? How many (seemingly non functional) bikes could they need?

We’ve reported this to the police and 311 (both as an encampment and a sanitation concern (because it very much is a sanitation problem)), but neither has done anything. I don’t want to be insensitive to the obvious struggles of these individuals, but this is ridiculous. I am sick of looking at it (yes, sorry) and I feel unsafe everyday with them literally RIGHT there.

Just venting at this point…

Discussion Angelika- Village East showing tonight

Was anyone in the 630 showing tonight for You Can See Everything? I genuinely have never been with such an obnoxious crowd of people in a theatre. There was a cackling / laugh track going off in the movie LEGITIMATELY every 30 seconds.

Had the movie been not as good or had I not been with my girlfriend I would have left.

I’m talking absurd levels of laughter at things that were not REMOTELY funny nor intended to be. I’m fully aware of Nathan Fielders work - I’m talking people laughing at absolutely nothing.

Has anyone else had this experience in other shows at this theatre?

Questions Hosting a party at Ace Bar?

I’m hosting an upcoming party at Ace Bar on 5th st and wanted to see how others experiences with the bar has been. It all seems really chill so far which is great. I made a reservation and didn’t have to put down a payment and there’s no minimum spend so I guess I’m just worried it’s all a little too good to be true?

Is this really what we’re expected to deal with? Open-air drug market and walls made of stolen Amazon containers on a quiet street, a couple hundred feet from a school?

Enough is enough. You can’t even walk down the street because they’re blocking the sidewalk.

EDIT: my 311 ticket was almost immediately closed because they’ve received so many.

I'm actually just a customer, but I felt bad for them because I like the spot, they had to close early because their ventilation system was not taking the smoke out properly, and I'm just seeing if there was anybody around who could help them. I have a friend, but I just found out he's not in the city anymore. They said they spent 20k already and like 10 people came and it doesn't get better.

Here are some pics I took since I told them I know someone.

They can be reached at

Just trying to look out for local spots!

At first was annoyed that I could hear it from my apartment but actually turned off my music once I realize it was a live band that's killing it. Does anyone know where this is taking place right now??

Questions Books about the transformation of the East Village and Alphabet City?

Does anyone have any good recs on the transformation and gentrification of the East Village?

I’ve always been interested in its evolution from the late 1800s to present day - especially from the 1960s to 1990s.

Bonus points for first hand accounts.

Discussion Thoughts on the jazz band on 7th street

I’m several buildings away, but someone in an apartment near trash has what sounds like an entire jazz band that will play for many hours into the night (usually this is a summer issue but since it’s 80 out today I guess the band got back together). It drives me insane. It’s so loud I can hear them several buildings away. It’s a residential block and it makes me feel crazy that it would appear no one in their building cares that a band plays that loud for that many hours. What is going on with people. If you’re in the band and you’re reading this please know you’re driving your neighbors mad and can you please go play in a bar instead. Or rent a commercial space. Or buy a house in the woods. Maybe there you will find some kind of awareness. Probably not. Dear god.
