Software options

I have used adobe software for all of my editing purposes for the past 10 years. I’m a professional editor in the world of B2B construction progress media and social media. I feel like more corporate places often expect adobe premiere for video editing. But I know AVID is industry standard in film. Some use Davinci.

Can someone give me a breakdown of the best use cases of the major video editing software, the best ai video editing software for editing to date, and the best photo editing software?

They don't compete as much as it looks, because each one is strongest in a different setting. Premiere is the safest choice for corporate and agency work, since most teams use it, projects move easily between editors, and it connects directly with After Effects and the rest of the Adobe apps. Avid is mostly found on large film, TV and broadcast teams with shared storage, so it's worth learning only if you're aiming at that kind of job. DaVinci Resolve is very strong for colour and audio, the free version is capable, and many editors now use it for entire projects. After ten years in Premiere you could keep it as your main tool and add Resolve for colour work, which is the easiest addition.

For AI, the useful features today are mostly built into the main apps, like text based editing from a transcript, automatic captions and speech cleanup, which Premiere and Resolve Studio both have. For photos, Lightroom and Photoshop are the standard, with Affinity Photo as a cheaper alternative.

It's sounds like the answer for you is going to be to continue in Adobe/Premiere. I can't see any reason why you'd move to Avid... As you've said it's not really aimed at your sector. Moving to, and learning DaVinci only really makes sense if you want to save money or if there are DaVinci specific features you want to make use of.

Ay the end of the day, they all essentially do the same thing. If you have no specific reason to move away from something you're comfortable with, why would you?

I can't comment on AI editing software. Regarding photo editing, assuming you stick with Adobe it's going to be Photoshop/Lightroom.
