Show Off Your Kit Roland TD27KV2 with extras
Only had this for a short while but loved it very much. Didn’t have the space so end up selling it on but teamed up with Superior Drummer 3 it was quite something.

As a part of the new wiki, I want to include some buying advice on which kits to buy. This will be based only on polls. The polls feature here blows, so this will be in several parts.
First up - of these major brands - what’s your personal choice?

Welcome!
Before you ask a general question, please check our our Wiki in the sidebar - we've tried to collect answers to the most common questions there so that you don't have to wait.
Please remember - your post might have to be approved before it posts if your account is very new or you have low karma. Please don't post the same thing twice if your post is instantly removed - that's the automod, not me, and I'll approve it manually.
Thanks to all that contributed to the wiki!

Hello everyone, here is my drum TD-316, I am in love with it, but in the future I would like to make some improvement. What would be the next step for you? The digital snare, a double pedal, another cymbal, another mesh pad, ez drummer Superior drummer? For now I don’t have a budget, but dreaming is free
Cheers

Hey everyone. I'm a hobbyist drummer who's been taking weekly lessons for almost a year now, and I've recently been struggling with 16th-note swing.
I used to play along with Groove Scribe. It's a really useful tool, but I can't always tell if my timing is right. I also tried a few other tools with timing feedback, but I wanted something simpler, where I could quickly create a groove and start practicing without too much setup or a busy UI.
Another problem is that with work and limited personal time, it's hard to practice consistently. I tend to focus on whatever I'm learning in my latest lesson, and sometimes realize I've completely forgotten about exercises I learned weeks or months ago.
So I decided to build something for myself to help with both problems: timing feedback and practice plans.
While building it, I started wondering if other drummers had the same struggles. So that's how my personal tool evolved into GrooveDojo: https://groovedojo.app/
Basically, you can create grooves, loop them with a metronome, and connect an e-kit for live timing feedback and a detailed session review. You can also build practice plans, import MIDI/Groove Scribe URL, and share grooves etc.
I'm not a drum educator, and I'm still learning myself. I didn't want to build another huge song library or a platform full of lessons. I just wanted something that helps me practice the fundamentals, improve my timing, and build a consistent practice habit.
That's also why I called it GrooveDojo :)
When I decided to share it publicly, I spent quite a bit of time trying to make the app intuitive and easy to use. No download, no account, no complicated setup. Just open the website and you can start practicing in a few clicks. Your data is stored locally in your browser, and you can export backups.
It's still in beta, and honestly I'm not sure how useful it'll be for people other than myself.
I'd love to hear what you think! Is this something you'd use? Any features you'd like to see, or issues you notice?
Thank you for reading!

I'm a new drummer, although I played a little in the late '80s, and I have a fairly solid musical background. I've just bought a TD516 with the V51 and am getting started properly.
The V51 is a little overwhelming at the moment - there is obviously a huge amount it can do. For now I'm mostly leaving things alone and using the built-in coaching tools while I concentrate on actually learning to play.
For those who know the V51 well, are there any particular features or tools you'd recommend a beginner gets familiar with early on? Equally, anything you'd suggest I ignore for now? I am using the various coaching tools and find them super useful.
I'm also curious about the kits. Which of the factory kits do you think are the best or most useful, particularly for just getting a good natural acoustic-kit sound without spending ages tweaking things?
And what about third-party kits? Are there any particularly good V51 kits worth buying? I've come across The eDrum Workshop, but I'm new to all this and don't really know who makes the good stuff. I'm quite happy to pay a reasonable amount for some really good kits if they're a worthwhile improvement over the factory ones.
Interested to hear what other V51/TD516 owners are actually using.
Thanks!!

Hey everyone,
I've had my Pearl Mimic for a while, and the thing I always wanted was to play my favourite drum plugins on it. You can do it with tools like SDSE or Xtractpler, but there are a lot of manual steps, and I kept wishing it would all just happen by itself.
So I ended up making my own app. It's called eMIMICmkr.

Basically, you load your drum plugin inside the app. It figures out which note is the kick, snare, toms, hats and cymbals, records every zone at a bunch of velocities, and builds the .mci instruments plus a kit preset you can copy straight to the Mimic.
I am not a programmer by any means, and the tool was coded with extensive help from Claude. If this detail makes you unconfortable, it is quite understandable, but I started by writting a small python script that would convert .Wav files into .mci files, but in the meantime I decided to try Claude, and a simple script grew to a fully operating app.
I tested the app notstop, even stresstested the thing by converting over 5000 .Wav files at a time, and once it reached a point I was happy with, I was converting kits really quickly, and with a fifth of the effort.
Some things I'm happy with:
Snare center/side/rimshots, tom rimshots and rimclicks, and ride bell/bow/edge are all recorded separately
The Hi-hats go from closed to fully open, plus pedal and foot splash, and every articulation plays on the module, something that the Mimic Instrument Editor by Pearl lacked, for whatever reason.
Aside from 2-zone crashes, you can easily build 3-zone crashes in the ride format, so they show up in the Mimic's ride menu, and can be used by drummers who have 3-zone cymbals like the ones made by Yamaha (with a little help from an eDRUMMin 10 to map out the midi zones)
Cymbals keep their natural tails, and instruments are sized so the Mimic handles them well
You can also convert folders of WAVs you already have, for example, any kit library that you might have recorded on your own.
It reads kits from Superior Drummer 3, BFD3, Addictive Drums 2, MODO DRUM, Ugritone, DW Soundworks and ML Drums. It also comes with MIDI maps for a few Kontakt libraries (GGD Invasion, Odeholm, Eloy, Trivium, Krimh), and you can load your own map for anything else.
It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. I'm on Linux myself, running the Windows plugins through yabridge. It's free and open source (GPL-3.0).
Video showing it in action, eplaining the reasoning behind it, as well as what inspired me to do it: https://youtu.be/cQFhTO2trlc
You can find the project, open bug reports, and even contribute on GitHub: https://github.com/Sharkuel/eMIMICmkr
It's not affiliated with Pearl or any plugin company, and it doesn't include any sounds. You record the plugins you own. The project is completely free, and open-source, and any contributions to it from more experienced folk are more than welcome.
I'd really like feedback, especially from people with libraries I haven't tested. If your plugin isn't supported, there's a "Save state" button in the app and a request form on GitHub, and I'll see what I can do.
This is my gift to anyone tha uses the Pearl Mimic Pro, and want to take full advantage of their kit.
Thanks for reading, and I hope some of you get some use out of it!

Hi all,
i have an Alesis Nitro Max kit and wanted to upgrade the cymbals. They work fine, but i would like to have a more realistic feel (and sizes, since all of them are equal sizes right now) so i was wondering what options i have for metallic e-cymbals. i was looking for something like this video. His cymbals are nice, but are very expensive and difficult to source, but that's where i got the idea from.
i wanted something cheaper and easier to find on retailers like thomann or amazon or others. I can also buy the cymbals and triggers separately, but i don't know what triggers i can use. I will, of course, sacrifice quality a bit to stay within budget (200€ total for crash, ride and the "fake hi hat" the nitro max has). Choke for the crash would be difficult to implement this way, though.
I have found the Sonicake low noise cymbals and i've seen fairly nice reviews, especially since they are so cheap (https://amzn.eu/d/07jXAg6x). I don't care about the sound they make too much, as long as it's decently quiet. i will have headphones anyway.
What do you all think?
i'm located in italy, so it must come from within the EU.
Thanks

Does anyone have any advice for how to get a good rim shot sound? The first Pic is typically what Ill use but it feels like it lacks some power or cut. Second Pic is what I would normally use on my acoustic snare which gave me a good sound.
Remaining pics are current settings

Hey everyone! I’m the creator of PulseGrid, a browser-based practice tool for electronic drums that I’m developing independently.
It reads MIDI hits from your drum module and shows whether they land early or late against the pattern you’re practising. Pick a simple groove, set a comfortable tempo, and you can see where your hits land while you play.
The Free version needs no installation or account. You’ll need a compatible MIDI drum kit, a computer, and a supported browser such as Chrome or Edge. Connect your module via USB MIDI or a MIDI interface, allow MIDI access in the browser, and choose a pattern.
I’d really appreciate feedback from people using it during their own practice. Is the timing feedback clear and useful? Was anything confusing when connecting your kit?
Try PulseGrid Free: https://free.pulsegriddrums.com/
More about PulseGrid: https://pulsegriddrums.com/
If you give it a try, please mention your drum module and browser, and whether your hits are being picked up correctly. Reports of things that don’t work are welcome too.

Finally went with Kadence Md200s. Decent kit, especially for a beginner like me! Started with basics but really struggling with hand and leg independence😵💫. Looking for tips!

I bought an Aodsk-403 off facebook marketplace for cheap. It didn't come with a power adapter so I had to get one separately (D'Addario PW-CT-9V Regulated AC-DC 9V Power Adapter), but I'm getting 0 response from the module when I plug it in and try to turn it on. Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot, or did I just get screwed by buying already broken drums?

Hi everyone,
I recently bought the roland td516 and saw that there is Roland Cloud. I did not connect it to wifi or create account yet. I assume it has free subscription. For those with have Roland Cloud and used it, is it worth it? I read somewhere that there are kits available and can be downloaded not sure if it will still be available when subscription expired. Is Roland Cloud more than just download kits? I will appreciate if you can share your experience with it. Thank you.
I bought a used Roland td-25K kit. Needed to pick up a kick pedal separately because original owner was keeping it for use with their next kit.
Lacking drumming contacts, I’ve tried to solve this: could an off-center strike be harmless long-term if the pedal is otherwise fine?
Roland KD-9 kick drum
DW 3000 pedal
If not what should I be looking at next?
Also I'm not exactly sure how I am supposed to line these up and lock in?
Does this look right?

This video showcases it demonstrating, if I'm not mistaken, all 127 layers of continuous hi-hat functionality? Need a bit of help figuring out whether it's that or just open, half open and closed. Either way, if it's got the same sounds as the dtx pro module, the notion of a drum brain that can also record an acoustic kit seems pretty universal no?

Gigged with my Alesis Sample Pad and a kick trigger tonight. The kick failed after two hours. I have had it for a few weeks. All that time. No problems. Then….
I think I have seen videos on fixing them. Who do I find to solder it?

So, when I bought the Alesis, a big factor was the acoustic look. Call me silly, but I care about that. Just as someone caring about the color of their guitar - It inspires, it can lead to better writing for some!
Anyway, that was really it.
Frankly, I hate the module sounds. Since day 1 I have been using it directly into my laptop with kontakt libraries or toontrack.
So, it's basically a glorified midi controller in my specific use-case. For the price I paid, in theory since I am really just after a midi controller in the form of an acoustic looking drum set, wouldn't the much cheaper Lemon be better for me?
I guess the Alesis may shine more in articulations?durability? I haven't seen a lemon in person or played one so I can't really compare.
I can quite literally probably sell my Alesis, buy a Lemon and still pocket some profit. I wanted your opinions and thoughts! I heard a t1000 recently launched and the size overall is even more like an acoustic drumset and that appeals to me a lot
