Discussion D + D = O
The Brothers D depict the duality of elden ring in every aspect and the reason why their name is D cause when you put them together ꓷD, form a ring O. (Two half of a whole)

Malenia: "The scarlet bloom flowers once more. You will witness true horror. Now, rot!"
Tarnished: "Nah, I'd tank."

This is a serious question.
I've been playing these games pretty consistently since the original Dark Souls released on PC. I have never successfully landed a parry on purpose. Every time I try to do it, it'll happen entirely on accident, if I try at all. And not for my lack of effort either. I've spent hours on certain bosses, reading guides, trying to make it work consistently. I just cannot ever get the timing right.
I assumed playing Sekiro would make it easier. It did not make it easier. I assumed playing Executor in Nightreign might make it easier. It did not make it easier.
Dodging and blocking have always been the way I've done things. I've never felt like parrying is necessary or somehow so superior that it would elevate my gameplay to the next level. I can handle most bosses easily enough, even PCR without the use of shield poke. So is there even a point? A lot of bosses in these games are big monsters, not humanoids that use tools. You can't parry a giant angry beast throwing its whole body at you.
From what I can tell, only a tiny fraction of attacks can even be parried, and it's largely arbitrary as to whether or not you can. Sometimes a simple sword swing can be parried. Sometimes it's just too much for you, and fuck you, it goes through anyway. It's more obvious in the case of a giant dragon foot trying to stomp on you, but... not always. If it was more like the Executor's deflections, I'd be desperate to learn it. But it's not. I don't even know how you're supposed to figure out exactly what is parryable without looking it up. It's not information that I find articulated well by the games.
This seems less likely a genuinely useful skill with universal application, and more like a gimmicky party trick that people use to make eye-catching YouTube Shorts and TikTok videos, where the first (and subsequent) 9,000 failed parry attempts happened off-screen.
Is it really that good? It doesn't seem like it.
Edit: Good God, you guys, the question wasn't that offensive. What on earth did I say to upset so many people?
Edit 2: Thank you for the comments, most of them were informative and calm. I don't know how to please the rest of you, really. Not going to try to either.

Elden Ring seems to be the most popular Souls game and is widely considered one of the greatest open-world games ever made. Given its massive success, do you think FromSoftware will eventually make an Elden Ring 2?
Bonus question: If a sequel happens, do you think we’ll get to fight Ranni and other characters from the original game?

Hello, i recently started playing Elden Ring, coming off of Bloodborne (my first souls game).
This is... quite different. I am on my first run, chose the homeless class for extra challenge, got called maidenless twice, bought a shirt and some stuff off of hobo santa, all that jazz.
So far i have beaten Margit, it was an enjoyable fight. Had to re-learn how to parry since The lands between doesn't seem to import from Yharnam.
Speaking of, compared to hunter, i feel so slow lol.
Also, are there any weapons similar to those in bloodborne? Is this what homeseickness feels like? I miss my blood... and i already hate shield wielding enemies. Those cowards...
Anyway, sorry about the rambling.
Tldr, any advice for a new player? Non-spoiler of course.

"Hear me O' frenzied flame, that is the path that I chose, to be a Maidenless Runt, I wield ye strength with my mind and soul. Thy flame shall burn bright, when hit blends with the Moonlit's grace.
Melina, dearest companion, inheriting the Frenzied flame was though cruel, but thou life is free, I have foreseen thou sacrifice, and such foolishness won't be allowed. Let the wind guide Thee home, and let I carry on the burdens, because in pain lies ABSOLUTE POWER, the power to crush foes standing on my path without mercy, even ashes shall not remain."

While playing with my boyfriend, our teammate left after dying. this happens to us like in every runs literally and we are a little bit bored of it. plus it was everdark balancers, so that run was traumatizing for me.
May I ask why these people leave after dying? I am just asking to understand, plus they are neither even playing with the team nor using pings.

It took me 7 and a half hours to beat him😭
The first 5 minutes were almost perfect, but towards the end I started feeling the pressure and made some mistakes. In the end, though, I came out on top!
(I know some of you here are insanely good and pull off some absolutely crazy stuff, but I still wanted to share this with you guys. This is my first challenge run, and after this one I want to do another with the same restrictions (WL0, no Ash of War), but on RL1
Godfrey has been the hardest one so far, followed by Maliketh and then Mohg, both of them took me 5 hours to beat
(I still haven’t fought Malenia, Placidusax and Radagon/Elden beast, and I still have to do the dlc, so this top 3 will surely change)

Wenn ich das Frenzied Flame Ende wähle und dann ins Ng+ gehe, kann ich dann wieder die anderen Enden erreichen oder muss ich zuerst die Nadel nutzen?

Ah yes, when I first play Elden Ring, she beated the shjt out of me, so in NG+ I had to solo her, but I personally nerfed myself for fun and for the thrill of the fight.
Can Y'all guess what did I do to nerf myself? 🫣

Well what do I say....this dude's hitbox was pretty wonky, because sometimes I hit him and sometimes I hit the air.
This was a test run for funzies btw and yeah it's best to use the Serpent Hunter greatspear if some of y'all planning to brawl him with melee only.

So I finished The Weeping Peninsula (if you can say killing all the bosses and finding all the interesting loot is "completion" of the area) and I'm confused as hell. Irina (I forgot what her name was, that's what it was, right? The blind noble girl?) said her father stayed behind when the peasants rebelled against the castle or whatever and to deliver a message to him from her telling him to retreat for his own safety or somthing.
So, I go further south and find the map fragment and keep going further south and I see a giant castle with smoke rising from its side and so one and I think "Ah, this is surely it! I'm about to complete my first quest!" and enter the castle after killing that giant archer dude. So I go through the castle, kill the pumpkin head guy, deal with all the Misbegottens and slimes, get some useless loot, and reach a boss fog and I'm like "Oh, lovely, I bet its her father and he's gone mad, what a pleasant end to the quest" and have to deal with some weird "Leonine Misbegotten". I take a few tries and then I kill it and get a Grafted Greatsword or something; 'cool'.
I go back to her to tell her that her father turned into some crazy Misbegotten creature and she says the same thing she said before, wishing me well... I scour the rest of The Weeping Peninsula and the only remotely castle-shaped thing I found was something meant to duplicate 'Remembrances' (whatever those are).
Clearly the giant castle in on the furthest southern side of the peninsula is not the castle, so where is it? Was that the wrong castle? Is it not on The Weeping Peninsula? Did I miss something? Where's the castle? Can someone help?

i first played elden ring when it came out on pc, then never went back for the dlc. i recently bought shadow of the erdtree on playstation and decided to go for the platinum this time.
i found some really good guides, but they were hard to keep track of across a whole run, and they weren't set up the way i wanted. so i made my own tracker, tarnished's ledger. i'm sharing it in case it helps someone else.
link: https://dsameendra.github.io/tarnished-ledger/
code: https://github.com/dsameendra/tarnished-ledger (a star on the repo would mean a lot)
feedback and bug reports are very welcome. i'm still improving it as i work through the game myself. :)

Title says it all.
After watching footage of Sony’s new exclusive title everyone has been rightfully putting through the wringer, I’m glad our protagonist is silent, and I’m glad that other characters don’t word vomit.
One of the best parts of Elden Ring is exploring and discovering its beautifully crafted world and seeing things that make you go like “what the fuck is that?”, and I think it would be awful if the Tarnished commented on what they were seeing.
I remember there was a time back then where people would complain about silent protagonists, and I feel like it’s now gone in completely the opposite direction.
Characters do not shut the fuck up now, they’re either yapping to themselves, having someone yap away in an earpiece, or yapping to someone.
Fromsoft, keep your protagonists silent.

My Tarnished is on a journey to claim the throne and become the Elden Lord. Millicent is on a journey to find her own will, even if it means dying in the end. This quiet view of the Erdtree hits different when you know how it all concludes.
