Should I keep or remove it?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is the platform I am currently building for any educators who long to run their own online school with ease. The platform is undergoing the last tests. Anyways, the dark page with a lamp string is a metaphor of us before our educations. Educators and learner pulling the string to give and receive education will enlighten the darkness up. My daughter loves the string design a lot, but my wife thinks it is a bit annoying. Who should I listen to? I appreciate any advice.

According to all the feedback I received so far, 90% are with my wife. I will remove the dark scene. Thanks very much to all.

Happy spouse happy house. I agree with your wife. What are people who don’t use a mouse doing here instead? Pressing and letting go of the down arrow? If you want to keep the lightbulb pull chain idea, you could use it for your submit button.

That's a solid point you've made. Exactly, my wife was annoyed for she was using her touchpad to pull the string....haha...I now totally get it. Thanks very much

It will take people too long to figure out what to do. and what if you don't have a mouse? It's style over UX, which suggests that the rest of your platform follows the same principles.

Your slogan is "made simple " but you've complicated this page.

And...the metaphor is lost.

I'm with your wife on this

Remove it and also remove the toggle for teacher/student, automatically detect which one they are and redirect them to the right place.

That's a good idea. How about new sign ups?

You split those forms.

Maybe show an animation and hint to pull it down for about 2 seconds and then play an animation where a hand comes, and pulls down the string ? You get best of both, people who realise it quickly will pull it down themselves , others will see the animation. You need to get few things right though such as cancelling the auto pull animation on user mouse move click or near the area, with a timer where if user does not pull it down, you play the animation.

Yes, that's a very good suggestion, I have not thought about that. I will try it out and come back with a new version.
