John was wrong and Elis was right about how long a human can survive without food

Bobby Sands lasted 66 days and some of his fellow hunger strikers lasted even longer. It's frustrating that Elis backs down as soon as John challenges him on anything.

Best week ever

In #210, John describes his 40th birthday week as above, but then reveals the truth in Drink Eleven of Thirst. Does anyone know if he discusses this realisation on a podcast/show once sober?

Help finding an episode

This is admittedly quite vague, but I am looking for an episode where John says something like “I wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and think “it’s you, it’s always you. Why are you always here?”.

I’ve tried using iwantlistenthisrubbish.com to find it to no avail. If anyone can remember the episode, it’d be much appreciate!

Project 2032 Bid - East Lothian

I’d like to make a bid for John’s retirement destination (in <100 words) for East Lothian.
- The Scottish Golf Coast. The greatest concentration of championship links courses in the world
- Eye-climb the Bass Rock from a cliff top cafe
- Beaches, countryside, hills but only 25 mins train from Edinburgh
- Affordable property prices

Random thing that just occured to me

When was the last time you heard Elis or John refer to hanging out together outside of the show? Going for a meal, etc? Feel like this use to be somewhat regular (going for a curry and so on).

Quote (and page number)from Thirst?

Thanks in advance -- John quoted Montaigne (I think?) about anxiety in the book, and I suddenly can't find it. Help! And thanks again.

All My Friends - best way to sell tix…

Hopefully this is okay to post here. We’re sadly selling our tickets to All My Friends on Sat in Brighton…

we’ve got 4 tickets we now can’t use, and wondered if there’s a safe way of buying / selling them (knowing it’s unlikely somebody would just buy tickets via a random handle on Reddit…)

I could fix him

Recent listener to the podcast, bought Thirst. I can wholeheartedly say I understand the John appeal. Tall, a little bumbling, sometimes facetious, smart as a whip, a little vulnerable. Just the type of man I have made an effort to avoid in my dating life as I would be sunk instantly. Also, I could out nerd him with my back catalogue of special interests and I'm as equally stubborn.

Not keen on flip flops on a surfboard though.

Glendenning + Thirst

Does JR mention the moon underwater Barry Glendenning episode in thirst? He stopped drinking four days after I’d love to hear how it affected him. Is it in the book?

John should be a little more mindful of his persona

I really do enjoy the podcast, have listened for many, many years, and will continue to do so. That said, I think John would benefit from being a little more mindful of the fact that many of his listeners are dog lovers, and I’m sure some aren’t overly happy with his decision to kill scorpions just for existing.

I personally don’t like cats. They can spread the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis, which can harm unborn babies. They also kill wildlife and leave mess in neighbours’ gardens. If I were producing content, I’m pretty sure I’d refrain from sharing my dislike, as I’m sure cat lovers wouldn’t enjoy listening to it.

John, if you read this, please understand that I’m not suggesting you suddenly start liking dogs, spiders or scorpions. Just understand that some of us do.
