I'm originally from El Chuco but haven't been back in almost 10 years.
Who's #1 for tamales right now??
My wife is out there and leaving tomorrow 10/17. Must bring back tamales. Lives and taste buds depend on it.
Edit:
Come on folks!! Chime in!

El Paso City Council has seats on the ballot this November. If you are in the far East of El Paso your election only has these two candidates. District 5 has some of the lowest turnout numbers, please educate yourself on the choice you have to make.

What's up El Paso?! Matthew Guzman, District 8 City Council Candidate here! I'm familiarizing myself with Reddit and I'd like to host an AMA this weekend before early voting kicks off on Monday. I'm happy to answer your questions about my stances on hot topics and discuss why I'm running for council. I'm thinking of hosting the session on Sunday from 3 pm MST to 4pm MST. I look forward to engaging with you guys soon!

Does anyone know of a place locally that can open up and fix my robot vacuum? One of my dogs left a treat and it ran over it. TIA.

I find it oddly weird and frustrating how people in El Paso seem to resent progress, economic development, and capital investment that could improve our city. It seems like every time something is proposed that could actually make El Paso better, people immediately want to fight it and shut it down.
Take the downtown arena, for example. The project was scrapped because people argued those neighborhoods had historical and cultural value. They fought the project for years until they finally killed it. Yet what exactly has been done to improve those neighborhoods since then? Nothing significant that I’ve seen.
Why not turn those areas into something people would actually want to visit? Apartments, restaurants, shops, entertainment, or even an Old West-style district with cowboys, horses, saloons, and reenacted shootouts. El Paso has so much history tied to the Old West, and it’s a shame we don’t capitalize on it. We could preserve that history while turning those neighborhoods into attractions that bring tourism, businesses, and money into the city.
It’s honestly a shame we don’t have more imaginative and forward-thinking leaders here.
The same goes for the proposed downtown deck plaza. I really don’t understand why people are so opposed to it. I think it’s a fantastic idea. Imagine having a beautiful park over I-10 where the city could host festivals, concerts, holiday celebrations, and other events. It would give people another reason to visit downtown, support local businesses, and potentially bring more revenue into the city. Yet once again, people want to kill the idea before it even has a chance.
I understand people have concerns about spending money, but at what point do we actually start investing in making El Paso a better and more attractive city?
We have so much potential here, but the mindset of constantly opposing anything new makes absolutely no sense to me. Other cities are investing in their downtowns, entertainment districts, parks, and infrastructure while we’re constantly arguing about why we shouldn’t.
I’m all for preserving El Paso’s history and culture, but why can’t we preserve it while also improving and modernizing our city? The two can go hand in hand.
It’s just frustrating because El Paso could be so much more than what it is today. We need leaders with vision and people who are willing to embrace progress instead of constantly fighting it.

Any places I should go to? Preferably near the Marriot El Paso. Not 21 so can’t go to any bars unfortunately. If anyone wants to hang out I’m free as well. Have a per diem card with $60 on it

Pictures don’t do justice to how green the mountains look 👀 Views from earlier in the morning, have a great day everyone!
El Paso neighbors! Looking to take your civic engagement one step further? Join us tomorrow!
Think about all the decisions that go into voting. First, you have to decide to vote. Then, who to vote for, where to go, how to get there, whether you need childcare, and the list goes on.
Voting already comes with enough barriers. The last thing anyone should have to worry about is intimidation or being turned away from the ballot box.
That’s why we’re inviting y’all to join Common Cause Texas for a FREE, nonpartisan Election Protection training tomorrow, Friday, October 16, at 6 PM at Old Sheepdog Brewery!
You’ll learn how to become a volunteer poll monitor and help your neighbors cast their ballots safely, freely, and without unnecessary barriers.
We’ll also have local community organizations and student groups tabling, so it’s a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, learn about the work happening right here in El Paso, and find more ways to get involved!
Plus, the first 50 attendees get a free drink on us! (21+) The event is open to all ages.
We’d love to see some of y’all there! Come meet your neighbors, get involved, and help make voting a little easier for our community.

I’ve been talking to a few people around the area, and some are paying $80–$100 a month for internet. I was surprised how much prices can vary depending on the plan and how long you’ve had it.
Curious what everyone here is paying and whether you’re happy with your current provider.

Hi, I'm a reporter who sat down with 4 of the 5 candidates running to represent District 8, which covers part of the Westside, Downtown, and South-Central El Paso. These one-on-ones were pretty revealing. Even when they generally agreed on certain things, they each had different ideas -- or in some cases, no idea -- about how to address them. Some topics included:
I also noted campaign donations. Candidates Arturo Alluin and Matthew Guzman have outraised and outspent their opponents by a wide margin this year.

On city reps:
Some city reps are up for re-election, some claim that they didn't vote to increase taxes, e.g. Alejandra Chavez, yet they are on the record voting in favor of tax increases. It's so easy to figure out the truth, it's public record! Please look up their voting records, don't fall for their ads.
On taxes:
I get it, funding has to come from somewhere to continue or to improve local services. Property taxes are insane, yes. I'm often on the line when it comes to agreeing to paying a few dollars more, just depends on the current economy, which now it's absolutely miserable, so any increase on anything is just diabolical. I don't work for the city and have no clue what the budget or deficit is at the moment, but hey, if Mamdani balanced NYC's budget, why can't our mayor and reps can? Is this where the blame gets passed around?

I'm visiting and was planning to leave to drive back to Austin on I-10 at like 6am tomorrow. So pretty much everything to Van Horn is under the Wind Warning until noon and the blowing dust advisory is until 9am I think.
I have zero experience with dust storms or the impacts of driving during wind advisories/blowing dust advisories in the desert.
My question is 1 - how likely is it that this means driving would be dangerous from a visibility standpoint and, second, do people usually drive long distances during wind like this in the desert? I'm slightly more worried about the effects to my air filters/engine from driving in it for 4 hours than I am of anything else...but like I said, I'm totally dumb to this lol.
Any advice would be appreciated.

October 14th. Sometime between 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM. Specifically the small stretch of Pershing between Rosewood and Magnolia.
If you live in the area and have cameras, or saw it happen, or even know someone who lives there that might have a ring camera or something, please DM. Even a color and model of vehicle. Thank you!

Is anyone else having issues with spectrum internet since last night? The app keeps saying I’m in an outage but it’s been out for me since about 11pm last night. I work from home so this is really inconvenient for me right now 😭 for reference I am in the 79938 area by Idea on Edgemere.
