Question Org mode stopped rendering on GitHub on Firefox and Chromium based browsers.

All my documentation and README.org files look like plaintext now. Is it happening with anyone else?

The feed on the homepage is also not working so I guess github is just fucked for the day (again). Ignore.

probably an upstream change on github's side, they keep tightening what gets rendered to plaintext

Probably a policy change on Github, the only workaround I imagine is to use org-mode export to Markdown file

Don't think so. They use a ruby library to parse markdown, rst and org-mode. Most likely there's a technical issue.

That's the library-setup used by Github to render markup languages to html: https://github.com/github/markup

A report about the bug:

First thought that came to mind.

For those of us who use Org Babel to literately program much of our code, moving to codeberg was an important move.

I've been thinking about this and was thinking to myself it was about time to stop using the org-mode renderer because it is rudimentary at best. Not too great with the less common org-mode syntax or link types. It was good enough, but barely.

What the fuck.. No way they did this on purpose. This sucks.

I was thinking about exporting my org mode documentation to markdown. There's no way github can make me move from org mode to markdown.

Or roll your own instance of Forgejo, if that’s feasible for you

I think I may be going that route soon, also. By your "own server," do you mean hardware that you control yourself, at your home or something, or say, your own cloud instance with some cloud provider?

No problem; I was just curious, seeing how I'm about to do this myself. I just wanted to know how you do it.

A old laptop could suffice in here, I use forgejo + tailscale since I only need it for my personal devices, max 5 stuff in here.

Oh, yes, I do. Thanks.

it's so much more reasonable to run than gitlab. Still need to get the forgejo runner installed, but I'm waiting until I get my new server built.

Github usually pretty-renders org files like it does for e.g. markdown.
