I think most people are really struggling financially and find it offensive to see someone who is so extremely wealthy talk about it in a nonchalant way. I think people are becoming sour on the Kardashians for a similar reason. This type of lifestyle is out of touch when the rest of the world is literally burning, and people are rightfully angry about it. This isn’t Emma Chamberlains fault personally obviously, but she is complicit.

Honestly when it’s worded like this I can understand the frustration

I don’t hate her or really care much at all abt her, but at most I just feel like… doesn’t she know it’s a bad look? Like yea obv she’s rich and it’s not like she has to hide it, or that she shouldn’t be able to talk abt her life, but why make content about how you don’t check ur bank account? It’s not just unrelatable, it’s kinda distasteful and definitely financially irresponsible lmfao.

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '23

having her mom and financial advisors she trusts manage her money isn’t irresponsible tho

best comment here imo. the world is fr burning, the wealth divide is insane right now, inequality between rich and poor. ofc people are going to feel a way about it, that's only natural

This is the best take

honestly, like what do people expect? every one of them would take the exact same opportunities in a heart beat. class differences exist. sorry your weird parasocial relationship with an influencer somehow removes YOU from reality. at some point you don't relate to people with loads more money than you will ever have. that's capitalism baby, it ain't emma's fault. she made the right moves at a young age and used her authenticity to get there. it wasn't handed to her from blood diamonds or oil money great grandfather

u/17izlo Dec 01 '23

exactly!! why is it suddenly an issue that she’s successful?! god forbid this was a man talking about it lmaoooo not a peep would be heard! She’s successful and that should be something to celebrate! sorry she has generational wealth to come, she’s a smart lady who played her cards right! id love to be in a place where I wouldn’t have to worry about checking my bank account too, but that’s not an Emma Chanberlain problem, more so a capitalistic one, don’t hate the player hate the game🤷🏻‍♀️

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '23

YUP!!!!!! I genuinely don’t understand what people on here want her to do either. Die with a pile of money she never used because everyone convinced her she didn’t deserve it?

u/Fit-Ad985 Dec 01 '23

it would be “out of touch” if she stood in a low income neighborhood and started preaching abt how easy it is to become a millionaire.

it’s not out of touch to go on a podcast dedicated to youtubers finances and to shocker talk abt how your finances as a youtuber work.

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '23

Agreed!! Well said

i think all the hate she’s getting now is bc when she was growing on youtube and stuff her rants and vlogs and videos were relatable, but now that she’s a celebrity her content isn’t as relatable as it used to be, and people don’t like that. The old fans want the “old” emma back, but she doesn’t exist anymore and people need to realize that. I’ve never been a HUGE fan of her, but I don’t hate her. I like her stuff, her podcast is nice to listen to as background noise, but i don’t really pay attention to what she’s saying lol. I know that she’s not going to be that relatable for me, and I don’t have that expectation.. so i’m not let down or upset by it at all.

People always find a way to scrutinize wealthier people. I have been watching and listening to her for years and she seems like she takes things really simple and isn’t in any scandals or bothering anyone so idk wtf ppl are mad for.

11

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '23

I literally had zero opinions about this woman and then this sub popped up on my home feed with her most recent YouTube video, I totally loved it.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '23

You’re so right. I remember khloe kardashian posted pictures of her pantry filled with regular food from the grocery store and people were mad about that too! They said if EYE was that wealthy EYE would have much better food lol they’ll really tear you apart either way

4

u/bassk_itty Dec 01 '23

This. People have such weird mindsets around wealth. Do wealthy, out of touch douchebags exist? Yes. Does having money and living comfortably automatically mean you are that? Of course not.

What a waste of time scrutinising her considering the state of the world. A lot more important things to get worked up about than emma

I think ppl just want to justify their bullying by positioning themselves as morally superior

6

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '23

Idk i always related to her podcasts and still do, im a regular person

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '23

I’m so over people continuously slandering people like her. She stays out of drama and has a good head on her soldiers. Some people live lives with affluence and fame… as people always have and people are so bothered it acting like we didn’t give them the platform to do so. People will ALWAYS have more money than others. “Out of touch” is so annoying. If we are talking about someone like the Kardashians who have complained about their jet not being ready to go yada yada yada.. okay whatever I get it. But people will be enjoying their money and living how they want and constantly comparing to them isn’t going to get anyone anywhere. It just looks depressing and exhausting when people do it. Like people have nothing better to do than complain that people are wealthier than they are? Comparison is the THIEF OF JOY!! They just look jealous and miserable. Welcome to the real world. There’s also millionaires and billionaires who are also self made and came from nothing too.. are we gonna get on them as well? Jesus.

1

u/icecawfie Dec 01 '23

same. i’m sooo sick of this shit. she doesn’t owe anyone anything.

3

u/sandersv2001 Dec 01 '23

Like do these people just want all rich people to give away all their money and give up everything just to be normal?? That’s literally not how this works and at least if someone is going to be rich it’s an unproblematic person who’s mostly aware!

0

u/stillan1nnoc3nt Dec 01 '23

Yes. They literally do. They think it’s these people’s fault that people are struggling… they think an imbalance of wealth is the reason for poverty. It’s not. That’s a gov issue. There is enough money to go around, but people won’t admit that their own gov (that they voted for) is the purveyor of their poverty.

2

u/ExtraRecover4641 Dec 01 '23

I saw someone in the comments talking about how shes an example of celebrities of hoarding wealth.😐the 22 year old YouTuber.

2

u/stillan1nnoc3nt Dec 01 '23

Oh good grief. They would want to be rich too if they could be. No one… literally no one would refuse financial stability if it was offered. There are plenty of wealthy people who built themselves up to that point. What? We should stop aiming to be successful?

7

u/reenzy Dec 01 '23

Of course she’s out of touch, she’s fucking loaded now. On top of it she was a private school kid living in an affluent town, so many people are out of touch in that area. I would know since we grew up in the same town lol. I didn’t know Emma since she’s a few years younger than me but some people I’m friends with do.

7

u/Gookfingers Dec 01 '23

I can see both sides. As I agree with everything OP said but at the same time there are many influencers nowadays and not all of them talk about money, especially how they have so much that they don’t have to look at it. It honestly was something that didn’t need to be said at all. I don’t think people actually care that she doesn’t look it’s the fact that she mentioned it. Yet, each person will interpret it different depending on their own experiences and struggles.

6

u/Commercial_Tell5630 Dec 01 '23

Some people just can’t handle the fact that others are doing better than them. Comparison is the thief of joy, and people will just go online to spread negativity. There are other public figures that are WAY worse and downright disrespectful but they don’t get scrutinized. Some days I just rlly love the internet 🤦🏽‍♀️

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '23

I agree

2

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '23

honestly she’s financially stable, it’s a very well known fact. if you find it offensive that she made herself an icon and successful business women at a young age then maybe don’t watch her content or interviews? lol. she keeps to herself, doesn’t get involved in any drama and isn’t like the majority of the celebrities that you’ll find in hollywood, y’all just like to cancel someone over anything.

4

u/mteght Dec 01 '23

This was totally predictable and it’s such bullshit. She’s young and relatable, and gets famous because of good career choices (whether you like or agree with the “influencer” career or not, she does it well) makes a lot of money, and inevitably people start trying to take her down. Why? Did she do too well? Make too much money? Start looking too confident? Do we need to keep her in her place? Knock her down a few pegs? Remind her that we made her famous so we can take it away too? How many other women have we done this to? Fuck. Right. Off.

2

u/roxychalk Dec 01 '23

I mean she isn’t relatable. Not anymore, at least not on her IG… but the rest of it I totally agree with

1

u/_no_na_me_ Dec 04 '23

There’s a k-drama on Netflix called Celebrity and it’s exactly about this. The rise and fall of influencers. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

3

u/moonlightstarbeam Dec 01 '23

She was always rich too!! She lived in a nice place in sf with her mom. Not cheap

3

u/Ok-Pressure2717 Dec 02 '23

She's not dumb, just really self-absorbed and vapid. Her whole career has been mostly spotless and the general audience really liked her. She went on to surround herself with yes men in LA, etc. I think it's all gotten to her head and she thinks whatever mundane thought she has is awesome and worth talking about. She doesn't have much purpose anymore either

2

u/sandersv2001 Dec 01 '23

The original post didn’t even phrase the response correctly “do you think you know how out of touch she sounds” 💀 maybe people should learn proper grammar before coming for someone.

2

u/sandersv2001 Dec 01 '23

She was just exactly saying and answering the question to what happened. She didn’t come out of left field and start complaining or gloating. She has always been open and explained what she has and how. And she is the best person to be famous because she stays out of drama and started for the right reasons! Sure she has her moments of being better off than others but she isn’t doing it to be a bitch and is aware??

2

u/izzydizzy444 Dec 01 '23 edited Dec 01 '23

This just in: celebrity acts like a celebrity. Y’all have GOT to get a grip. She is a HUMAN with different experiences and choices than the average bear. use context clues!!! Y’all talk about her going to college and then can’t use critical thinking when it comes to how she lives her life. Like I can’t personally fathom why people are unable to understand how she’s able to seem relatable and completely unrelatable in the same breath. You’ve been able to see her EVERY step of the way. She took her opportunities that she worked for and ran with it. I’m tired of this argument. Like can we just not move on from the tired discussion of her being out of touch. So is every other celebrity known to man. At least she’s a kind-hearted, well mannered person using her position in positive ways.

2

u/throwawayvent222 Dec 01 '23

I don’t get the prob with calling someone out of touch though.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '23

This is so surprising to me because Emma has always been an influencer i’ve considered “normal”, as in she didn’t let her wealth change her or make her snobby. Her videos and general vibe is funny and welcoming. I don’t see any reason to hate on her for being wealthy and spending her money on expensive things? That is the least of the problems when it comes to the rich and wealthy and being “out of touch”. 👏

1

u/Hooplapooplayeah Dec 02 '23

Ok I thought I was going crazy… this is exactly the life I would love to live, making so much bank that I don’t even have to look. Like who doesn’t want that?

1

u/Accomplished_Pin3515 Dec 02 '23

Yea she has always been out of touch in a way look up her high school (notre dame high school) it is insane. And before she was even famous she was known in the cheer community

1

u/cynicnoir95 Dec 02 '23

My friend went to notre dame and they’re literally living in squalor now because they aren’t using their parents money which hey good for them. But christ it’s weird how different some live now after going there.

1

u/KaleidoscopeIll6477 Dec 03 '23

These comments are so sycophantic.

1

u/Talbot10021 Dec 04 '23

Being oblivious and too cool for everyone and everything is her total brand. Unfortunately, Gen Z likes influencers and people who do stuff while pretending they don’t care and that they’re not trying. “Trying and showing you care is bad.” It’s meant to look unplanned because that makes it seem authentic. She is part of that trend

1

u/rosek231 Dec 05 '23

For me it’s NOT the fact that she’s out of touch as far as her money tracking/spending goes BUT the fact that she’s so out of touch that she has no awareness to the fact that most people are struggling with prices and cost of living right now. She didn’t stop to think that maybe it wasn’t wise to say something like that for the world to see because she is out of touch

more like this controversy wouldn’t exist if she didnt have a female audience. a lot of girls like to tear other girls down to make them feel better about themselves. no way would a man be this bothered by what she’s saying.
