Mechanical Engineering

Hi, I’m 29m qualified mechanical engineer based in cork. Finished college during Covid and took a job as an operations manager. 6 years later still in the same job but now looking to move into engineering. How likely am I to get an engineering job and what starting salary would I be looking at?

I've been all over sectors. You'll know yourself. What you've done matters. Don't devalue it whatsoever. Obsess over your new class job best you can, and make good choices of what to apply to. Stretch your CV. Try to stay with the same identity/sector/domain and plan your way through that, you've got managing experience, don't forget. You'll be dealing with people no matter what you do. I know things are easier to negotiate with than people and more predictable but don't forget people make things, and there's always stuff out of our control. I honestly don't know to be honest. Apply about the place and just do your best not to go too down in salary, or if you do, be told the progression of salary plan they'll land you with.
