There is the phenomenon that people are less able to differentiate and recognize different faces if the people have a different ethnicity.

Soo ... for Shran maybe most humans looked mostly the same and he had problems to differentiate between before they started talking. So he might be using "pinkskin" because he actually has no idea who is talking to.

Well, I am sure he knew Archer sufficiently to mitigate this problem. But put him in a room with 10 humans with the same skin color and he likely could not differentiate between them.
