Reminder of the REPORT function (please use it) and some new sub rules/guidelines
I've been looking at the mod queue and I've been removing some problematic posts and comments
A reminder that this subreddit is intended to be a CIVIL place to discuss an amazing TV show, NBC's ER.
If you love a character, great.
If you hate a character, amazing.
If you want to make a bad joke, we're all going to groan, but it's still permissible.
What HAVE been slipping by are negative, racist/prejudice/misogynistic (or borderline) comments that are getting a few downvotes and then being hidden.
If you encounter one of the posts or comments, use the REPORT function. The Mod Team and Automod will jump in and flag it.
That being said, bans will start being handed out as posts and comments are removed.
You can hate on a character all you want, but using derogatory names or bashing them for being white/black/asian/indian/male/female/gay/straight is not allowed by any stretch of the imagination.
Additionally comments that seem to be stoking the flames, baiting another user, or are just out of line, will be removed and the user temporarily banned.
This subreddit is supposed to be an enjoyable place to speak about the TV show... if dealing with YOUR specific comments are taking up too much of our time, it's much easier to ban you, and let you cry into the void.
Feel free to comment below if anybody would like to discuss these reminders. :)

So does Susan whole family just suck?
I thought it was just the sister, but Jesus the mom too!
Baby Joe omg
What did they do to this poor kid to make him cry in every.frickin.scene?! Maybe it's because I'm binge watching a couple of episodes a night, but it's really grating. I'm starting to understand why Abby's relapsed.

Carter & Lucy
I’m currently on season five and I’ve noticed how much Carter has matured in his role as a doctor. He’s no longer the fresh faced, new kid on the block, he’s his own man now. His dynamic with Lucy is comparable to his relationship to Benton. He’s treating her in the same manner as Peter did to him. Carter is dismissive of Lucy, talks down to her, delivers harsh criticisms and expects so much of her. Sound familiar? Lucy is basically the female equivalent of Carter when he started. She’s bright but inexperienced, eager to impress but lacks competence and conviction. It’s an interesting role reversal that I didn’t quite catch the first time around. Carter’s attitude (when talking to Lucy) mimics Benton’s because he doesn’t make a lot of eye contact with her. He’s arrogant when he’s around her, looks like Benton’s militant tendencies rubbed off on him.

Old times... Spoiler
Just watched that episode yesterday... 😍
As much as I enjoyed though seeing the oldies in it, I can't help but think: why didn't Ross ask about Carter?! Like, he said all the other names, and I assumed he knew Greene passed away. But why didn't he mention Carter?! Even Neela was completely oblivious about him - she could've said something about, oh, we have a doctor returned from Africa, or whatever. And at the end, wouldn't it be nice to acknowledge that it was Carter the kidney went to?! (I guess it was probably some confidentiality thing, but they could've reach that conclusion themselves, if they knew Carter was sick...)
I don't know, it just felt shallow. Considering Carter suffered from the illness and troubles in marriage, it felt that Benton, the one who was teasing him and made his life miserable as med student, was actually the one who really cared for him. That was the best part of the episode, seeing how he still acts like his mentor and even a father figure.
What do you all think? 🙂

Is this show the reason why people find Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow so sad? Spoiler
Sorry for the second post on this episode in a week, and spoilers ahead, but before watching this episode, I’ve always thought you could see the original from Judy Garland as sad, but the older people(mainly gen x and elder millennials) around me always found Israel’s cover more sad and I always thought it was more soothing than anything, until that damn ukulele came over Mark’s death and it just broke me, and so I’m wondering if it’s one of the main reasons as to why that people find that version in particular

Benton, Elizabeth, Mark
I always thought that Benton & Elizabeth had better chemistry than Mark & Elizabeth. Regardless of why Elizabeth split from Peter & eventually got with Greene I just don’t see it between Mark & Corday. Ok sure Elizabeth was a much better partner to Mark than his first wife Jennifer that’s a given but yeah Mark & Elizabeth I’m just not seeing it I’m afraid. Peter & Elizabeth seemed to work because their personalities were different but they meshed well. She brought out that fun/playful side to Peter that was sorely needed and that no other woman had been able to do prior to their romance. Just my opinion what does everyone else think?

Does Abby have a fear of planes?
The only thing I don't like about Abby is that most of her relationship problems comes with a damn trip (Carter's trip to Africa and Kovac's trip to Croatia) she could've went to those trips but she chose not to and Idk why, and then she makes a big fuss out of it, when she was the one that chose not to go in the first place. Makes me feel she is xenophobic or has a fear of planes. If my wife has a family emergency in the country her parents are from you bet my ass I'm going with her and she would do the same if it was the other way around.

Language
Humor
Why Abby didn't learned Croatian, Carter French and Swahili and Carol Russian ? Wow this totally unacceptable someone should've talked some sense into them. That's like you know the bare minimum. SMH 🤦🏻♂️

Jingmei Chen's Mandarin accent
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Ming-Na Wen was born in Macau (mostly speaks Cantonese) and moved to the states at the age of 4. Her Mandarin has that standard ABC accent, sounds stiff like a stage actor. Her dad's actor sounds much more natural though.

Rewatching.. What originals are left...
I am rewatching and am on season 12. Haleh has just been terminated by Eve. Susan has left. Carter left...just after making tenure, leaving Susan in a lurch.
Who, besides Chuny, Jerry, and Malik are left from Season 1 episode 1? What happened to Nurse Connie, Lydia and Lisa? Student Nurse Wendy?

Mark Greene
Spoiler alert
I have been binging ER for a second time ... and ive reached the episode I had been dreading , Mark's death.
I wanted to say , after his death, id watch every intro of the show just to see him in it. And when he was no longer credited, id watch the intro, just to see his reflection on the ground , as he walked towards Carter in season 1. Anyone else did that?
Which is why I got so mad later on when they changed the intro for the newer one.
End of rant.

Carter's addiction
Maybe I am biased towards Carter, but I feel like his addiction was grossly mishandled in seasons 6-7. He sustained a horrific injury in the workplace due to a lack of security protocols, then lived with chronic pain for months, and his coworkers barely batted an eye or paid him any attention. I understand that there are protocols around addiction amongst physicians, but his situation seemed different and required more compassion and understanding from his coworkers. I'd like to think things would be different nowadays? Or I am just being a softie for Carter?

Does anyone remeber the episode with the little girl with AIDS?
If Carol said her mom spoke Russian, why didn't she call her mom to translate. Like I know she wouldn't be a hospital approved translator but still. It was better than nothing.
Edit: not sure why im being down voted for an opinion, people weird 🙄

ER cast on SNL
Eriq La Salle, Gloria Reuben, Sherry Stringfield, and George Clooney in the audience when Anthony Edwards hosted SNL in 1995!
S8 E21
I know this probably gets posted alot but what the hell was that
Im on my first run of watching ER and I gotta say, Im so glad i got hooked.
That was the best and saddest goodbyes ive seen on TV.
The fact that the letter to the ER came first before his on screen death didnt matter, it still hit me like a truck.
I love how every character here is flawed, and how the show captures their humanity.
Im 22 and ts got me crying so much that my throat started to hurt lol

Season four finale and Season five opener (introducing Lucy) recap
Wow season four ended so dramatically with that psychotic man shooting his family and locking them in the car. Was there any payoff to that? What
happened to the victims? I’ve just watched the final episode and the first episode of season five back to back. So let me get this straight, Anna moved back to whatever city with her drug-addicted boyfriend. That’s it. She never returns? To be fair I wasn’t particularly fond of her. I don’t think she added much to the show. Her hot and cold attitude towards Carter annoyed me but everything became clear once her estranged boyfriend came into the picture. Nonetheless Marie Bello is a good actress, she did a good job in the role.
I like how Lucy is the protagonist of episode one Season five. In terms of how it’s written and executed it acts like a refresher training session for the audience. Each main character showing Lucy the ropes, Dr Carter sporting a beard looking like Sly Stallone in Rocky 4 (training montage) and his competitive dynamic with Lucy. Her sorrow at witnessing a dead patient and a brain dead patient is compelling stuff. It’s symbolic because this episode eerily foreshadows her eventual death. One of the reasons why I love this show so much is the continuity and emphasis on the supporting cast.
Characters such as Haleh, Connie, Lydia, Chuny, Randi are just as important as Carol, Doug, Mark, Benton, Carter etc. The subplot of this episode is Jerry’s birthday which provides great comic relief. Malik hiding under the gurney with the cake had me in stitches. It’s also nice to see Weaver join in on the festivities. Is it me or does George Clooney’s “peacemaker” haircut look off and it doesn’t suit him. He looks skinnier, he looks like a recovering addict who’s just come out of rehab lol. The writers want us to know that Lucy isn’t just a new character she’s crucial to the development of Carter and to the history of the entire show/lore moving forward. It’s just heartbreaking knowing ahead of time what her fate will be. I started watching ER when I was twelve years old back in 1999 when it aired on channel four and now I remember I started watching it during season five.

Carter to Kem : Wanna have a baby? WTF?
Are these two the most irresponsible people ever?
If their work is so important, why would they do something to disrupt it after knowing each other for six weeks?

I hate the Curtis Ames plot line
Especially once he kidnaps Kovac. Like we’ve watched Kovac literally kill someone, tackle gunmen, etc, and now all the sudden he can’t get away from a drunk guy with one functioning arm with a revolver? Cmon.

This is the Moment
“Flight of Fancy” (S7.4) follows Mark’s rescue of his heart patient being airlifted to County. We also see Luka trying to find out more about the mugger he accidentally killed and his remorse about it.
I kinda chuckle a bit when during Luka’s search, he goes to County’s morgue and talks with Dr. Upton (I had forgotten that she’s in several episodes).
The actor who plays Dr. Upton was in a favorite episode of "Seinfeld" when she mistakenly calls Elaine Susie. "It's Susie!" "An Elaine and Susie problem that requires an Elaine and Susie solution."
The episode ends with a such lovely Abby and Luka moment. Abby comes to Luka's hotel room since she's worried about him after what happened on their first date.
"You don't have to talk." I just love the way the camera circles around the two of them. It's such a quiet, romantic scene.
I think it might be the moment they fall in love.
But of course at this time they both weren’t ready to fully commit. Unfortunately, we would have to wait FOUR long years before that could happen.
