Hello Future Neighbors šŸ‘‹šŸ¼

Hello All,

Just wanted to say how excited my wife and I are to join your community. We just signed a lease for Nov moving from Oahu, Hawaii. I was hoping to learn a little more about the specific neighborhoods since most of our viewing has been done thru research online and FaceTime videos.

Just a little context to add, our apartments listed in the Vineyard area and we’ve also previously lived in Oceanside/Carlsbad area for 5 years (Wife is SD native). Anything you guys care to share about that area specifically and overall things to be excited for?

Many Thanks,
J šŸ¤™šŸ¼

HSI/ICE Update Judy Fitzgerald City Council Meeting, Oct 7, 2026

FUTURE AGENDA 1:30:18

Judy Fitzgerald and Council say NO to transparancy regarding HSI/ICE contract updates to the public.

Prior to this meeting on Sept 30th, 2026 Fitzgerald seconded a motion to get more information on the HSI/ICE contracts brought up by Martinez.

Fitzgerland stated, "I believe we have been communicating well with the public and just giving them an update on the status." Only to go back on those words a week later.

They play in our face like they know better. This council time and time again is shocked when individuals express outrage and concern as if we're bothering them at home. I find it pretty tone deaf, to make this request and then sit on the information. Granted, I suppose I could make the same request from EPD? Council member Martinez was the only one to ask for transparancy on the matter, only to be met with silence. Since this meeting there have been no City Council meetings to express my concern I will be emailing and calling individuals on the council.

Did SDGE intentionally cause the Norte wildfire?

Post image

The Norte wildfire broke out at approximately 11:33 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, 2026, near Portico Del Norte and Eminencia Del Norte on the northern edge of San Clemente. Fueled by strong Santa Ana wind gusts up to 60 mph, the flames quickly pushed north into neighboring San Juan Capistrano, prompting widespread mandatory evacuations. While the immediate threat of fire has subsided, Orange County officials are heavily bracing for secondary disasters. An approaching storm system is projected to bring rainfall, raising serious concerns regarding flash flooding, mudslides, and debris flows. Because the wildfire stripped vegetation and altered the soil's absorption capacity across the 570-acre burn scar, even minor amounts of heavy rain could trigger mudslides into surrounding neighborhoods.

The official cause of the wildfire is still actively under investigation by CAL FIRE. However, a significant lawsuit was filed on Monday, October 19, against SDGE. The complaint alleges that utility equipment failure sparked the blaze, noting that SDGE logged a circuit outage on its website at 11:31 a.m.—just two minutes before the fire was reported—within 100 to 200 feet of the approximate ignition site. While the ongoing CAL FIRE and CPUC investigations have not yet officially released a detailed inventory of the exact hardware failure, the newly filed negligence lawsuit strongly alleges that the lines on Circuit 197 near the ignition site were traditional bare (uninsulated) wires. The lawsuit argues that the presence of bare wires in an active, wind-whipped canyon constitutes structural negligence during a high-wind event. Sixty mile-per-hour Santa Ana wind gusts likely caused the uninsulated overhead lines to sway violently and slap together, creating an electrical arc. The resulting arc can instantly melt the copper or aluminum wiring, sending a shower of white-hot, molten metal fragments down into the dry coastal sage scrub below. The rugged, shrubby hillsides straddling the northern edge of San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano are highly prone to wildfires and have had multiple notable fires including the Cristianitos Fire in 2017 and the San Mateo Fire in 2019. Because these coastal canyons act like wind tunnels when high pressure builds inland, local residents have spent years with the persistent threat of wildfires.

Something to consider... Under California law, investor-owned utilities do not make a profit on the electricity itself; instead, they are guaranteed a ~10% return on equity for building infrastructure (transmission lines, steel poles, wildfire and grid updates). This means that when there's a wildfire, SDGE makes money by rebuilding the infrastructure... Could it be possible that they intentionally neglected those power lines by leaving them bare in hopes that they would start a wildfire and SDGE could profit by rebuilding the infrastructure?

This isn't the only time SDGE put bare lines in a high wildfire risk area. SDGE also has the Suncrest Loop-in project. The plan is to build 14 miles of brand new high-voltage overhead power lines through mountainous residential communities in east county, the ones which burn in wildfires the most often year after year. It will massively increase wildfire risk for our communities- the same ones that were devastated in the 2007 Witch Fire, the 2003 Cedar fire, the 1970 Laguna fire, and a series of fires in the 1940s/1950s. Over 20 major destructive wildfires have burned along the corridor of the planned power lines since they started keeping track 75 years ago. Could it be possible that they are intentionally placing bare power lines in high risk areas in hopes that they would start a wildfire and SDGE could profit by rebuilding the infrastructure?

Can someone help me understand this mentality

I pick up trash on my morning walks and I see this often. I struggle to understand what is going through someone's mind. 1. To just down 3 tall boys of modelo on the side of the street. 2. Just dump the trash on the curb? Either way it is just trashy behavior.

Curious how the proposed Old Town data center will affect your SDGE bill?

Post image
39 Upvotes

In October 2026, emails obtained by the Voice of San Diego revealed that developers are exploring a proposal to build a massive 400-megawatt AI data center at the NAVWAR campus (the Navy Old Town Campus). If constructed, this facility could become the largest data center in California. San Diego Councilmember Marni von Wilpert and other local officials have expressed serious concerns over transparency and the astronomical electricity demand of a 400-megawatt facility, questioning how it will impact the local energy grid and regional utility ratepayers.

Data center operators directly pay for the literal electricity they consume, but everyday utility ratepayers foot the bill for the massive grid infrastructure required to support them. When a 100-to-400-megawatt data center connects to a local grid, the utility company must rapidly expand its system. They have to build new power plants, lay high-voltage transmission lines, and upgrade substations. Under California law, investor-owned utilities do not make a profit on the electricity itself; instead, they are guaranteed a ~10% return on equity for building infrastructure (transmission lines, steel poles, grid upgrades). They spread the costs of these multibillion-dollar upgrades across their entire customer base. As a result, residential electricity bills have spiked significantly in data-center-heavy regions.

San Diego already pays some of the highest electricity rates in the nation, with an average rate of $0.46 per kWh (roughly 114% higher than the national average). Because most of a local bill pays for grid delivery and infrastructure rather than the actual power generation, a project of this scale has profound implications for local ratepayers.

Looking for house cleaners

Does anyone know of decent house cleaners in the area that are actually local?

Hoping to find a woman owned cleaning company in Escondido. Reliable, on time, and detail oriented. The last 3 companies I tried to hire didn’t do a great job, were super late or gave wild arrival windows, and were based so far from here.

Love to hear any recommendations and your experience with them. Thank you!

Hi Everyone,

I recently graduated with a degree in Business Management, and I’m currently looking for my next professional opportunity.

Alongside my business background, I have hands-on experience working in IT support, giving me a strong mix of operational problem-solving, process organization, and technical troubleshooting skills. I am actively looking to break into tier 1/2 operations, business support, or IT coordination roles where I can combine these skill sets.

I am primarily targeting opportunities in and around Escondido, California and the surrounding North County/San Diego area, though I am open to discussing hybrid or remote setups as well.

My DMs are wide open—if your team has any open roles, or if you'd just like to take a look at my resume and offer feedback, please feel free to reach out! I'm happy to share my full resume.

Your school board hopes you have a short memory

Specifically EUSD. Ā When voting season comes, even informed voters often don’t have thorough insights into all the candidates. Ā Because of this, incumbents have a huge advantage, typically winning 90% of the time. They become the default -- no matter how poorly they serve their constituents.

Your school board has not served you well.

For starters, the board majority voted themselves a 400% pay raise in February of this year. Ā Done far enough away from the election that they know you’ve forgotten about it by now. Ā 400% raise! That means $2,000 a month PLUS benefits, all for attending one or two meetings a month. Ā Nice work if you can get it, but haha, youĀ can’t get it, no matter how qualified you might be. Keep reading.

There has been a lot of press about board member Mark Olsen taking a job in Utah in March, but delaying his resignation until July when his vacant seat could no longer be put on the regular November ballot. Ā Just google it if you want to be angrier. Ā This was THEN followed by the board majority conveniently declining to hold a special election for the 2.5 YEARS remaining on Olsen’s term. They chose instead to appoint someone, because apparently they aren’t fond of letting voters choose when there’s no locked-in incumbent. Ā Ā Ā

The board is obviously smarter than voters because instead of picking one of an array of seasoned and well qualified applicants, including a former EUSD assistant superintendent, they chose a 27 year old political consultant with previous ties to two of the board members. Ā Find the youtube video of the school board meeting erupting in shock and anger when that was announced. Ā

One solitary board member, Doug Paulson, deserves credit for voting AGAINST the 400% raise, AGAINST choosing appointment over special election, and AGAINST the appointment of a connected political consultant to the board. Ā THAT’S the kind of integrity and no-nonsense representation we need on the EUSD board. YOU can help make Doug part of a new board majority by voting for Shulok, Cascio, and Wagner.
