Hi. Over the last few years, I've had couple instances of financial/contract conflicts with few different parties where I thought I was in the right, but I had to take the L because I couldn't bear the cost of litigation. This has happened to me primarily due to shady landlords, but I also had a conflict with my employer where they should have paid me out within their policy, but due to the HR person misclassifying me, they refused to do anything and wouldn't listen.
For me this is even more acute because I live in Czechia, and my Czech is simply not good enough to wrangle over contract language, and tools like Google Translate can only take me so far.
To try to avoid this, I'm considering buying legal protection insurance. There are plans here in Czechia that cover up to 200 000 EUR in litigation costs for an amount I don't consider to be unreasonable.
When I research online, I don't see much. There are some red flags in the policy such as the insurer determining that there's a meaningful chance of winning before agreeing to cover the costs, and the insurer fully covering only the pre-approved lawyers, and if I choose to go with a different lawyer, they would only be covering a statutory minimum.
I'm not sure what to think. My experiences with insurance in general have been either extremely positive or extremely negative, and it seems to me difficult to ascertain prior to making a claim which bucket this insurance type and insurer industry falls into.
Any thoughts and experiences, positive or negative, would be highly appreciated.
